we have stayed ay this property at least 10 years ago and it is exactly the same, very grand but still in need of an upgarde to starwood level. All staff seemed very relaxed and chilled! not reflective of other Starwood properties, platimun status was reqonised upon arrival with a complimentary upgrade ( thank you) but other details reflecting platinum were not. including turndown and complimentary waters daily etc end of stay account needed to be changed effectivly and it seemed to be an effort.
Sorry for the honestey but we would love to return for a family retreat with 3 other families but don't have much faith in rebooking!!!

Arrived at the Sheraton early and was greeted by Matthew upon check-in. Though we were early, our room was ready to go and we got a full run down of the place. Wow.......Matt is definitely a wealth of information. The porters were right on it asking if we wanted to be driven to our room. We actually declined and said we were happy to explore our way there.
We were in 2115 and initially we were confused as it was on ground floor (should have had the porters take us!). Upon entering the room we noted that the room was dated. Yeah the fixtures and some of the furniture was old and I understand some reviewers comments around this. But, being 100% realistic here.....though a lot of the furniture and bathroom fittings are old....there is absolutely nothing wrong with any of it as it is all still in 100% working order. So hats off here to the TLC that this place has received over the years.
We had lunch on the first day at the Pool Bar. I had the burger and it was good....not the greatest....I think it may have sat on the pass for a little while as there were lots of lunches going out....but hey these things happen. My wife had the wrap and she was 'wrapped'. We were mad keen for the buffet but unfortunately it was not open on the Tuesday night! We enjoyed the breakfast in Lagoons. Chef Jai makes a pretty mean omelette! We got to the buffet dinner on the Wednesday, it didn't have the widest selection but for $49 I am not complaining. It seemed fairly quiet in the buffet so maybe they knew it was going to be a quiet night. I was surprised that the dessert buffet had no ice cream? However, with the help of Anne I was able to get some rustled up. We also enjoyed dinner in Il Pescatore on our final night and it was also very nice indeed. We indulged on the eye fillet main along with entrees and it was by far and away better then the buffet. Very well done team!
Make sure you investigate the Mirage Dinig Passport as some good deals can be had!
Was very impressed that we had turn down service. Fresh towels, little chocolates and water bottles. A very nice touch indeed. As a member of the Starwood Program the hotel put on a happy 'half hour' which I thought was absolutely fantastic. A nice, simple way to thank repeat clients to the brand. Well done! What I liked about the happy hour was that management and some representatives were actually out and about chatting to guests which was nice to see. Myself and my wife met Sharon....she was absolutely hilarious and great value to talk to.
The hotel does a lot of special touches......the duty manager on Thursday evening (I can't remember his name I'm afraid!) lent us umbrellas and when we returned them, approximately fifteen minutes later a lovely cheese platter arrived at our room out of the blue. Talk about a surprise!
We spent a lot of time by and in the pools and lagoons. One word.... SENSATIONAL! I don't think I need to go into much more detail here with the exception of adding that there is soooo much lagoon and pool space that you could almost at any time have your own private oasis! It was nice to see one lagoon dedicated to the kids (and even big kids) with the Aqua Bubble Play Zone. Lots of kiddies were getting in on the fun and it was good to see. Those who may shudder at the thought of laughing kids.....remember there are heaps and heaps of quiet lagoon spaces throughout the resort.
The Mirage Port Douglas is dated but still excellently workable and more then adequately does the job. This place has so much potential and I note that plans are in place for a refurbishment. I hope this happens as a makeover would bring this place back up to five stars. Should anyone need an example refer to the amazing transformation of Port Douglas' sister property on the Gold Coast.
Overall.....well done and we can't wait to come back on our next North Queensland adventure. Maybe next time we won't recognise the place with its planned revamp! :-)

Rated 4 out of 5 by lisa74 Perfect for family
We (family of four with two young kids) had a lovely time at the resort. The pool was spectacular and the sheer size meant there was plenty of room for all.
We were pleasantly surprised by the size of our room which was suitable for a 4 day visit. Staff were all friendly and helpful.
Decor does need updating but as we were with kids we weren't bothered (if we were there as a couple though would have wanted a higher standard). Food was what we expected at a large resort - acceptable but definitely not fine dining - unfortunately priced like fine dining.
All in all a great stay for a family and we look forward to returning.

My husband surprised me with this trip for our 24th wedding anniversary ,we had always dreamed of holidaying in Port Douglas & staying at the Sheraton Mirage. This Hotel exceeded our expectations in its size ,gorgeous views, & impeccable lush surroundings. The staff were friendly and the service at the restaurants was excellent. The only thing we felt a little disappointed in is, when we arrived & checked in,no effort was made to try & obtain a bedroom with a kingsize bed that we had requested prior to arriving- being that it was a special occasion.Other than that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it..

Rated 5 out of 5 by doug97 Awesome tropical resort oasis
This is a beautiful oasis in a great area with easy access to the reef and rain forest. Although the resort feels very isolated, there is easy access to the beach and to town through a shuttle. Be ready to empty your wallet to eat on property, but if you use the dining "passport" program it makes it very affordable. Port Douglas (shuttle every 30 minutes) also has some great spots for eating. Staff was great in helping us book tours with pick-up right at our hotel and even had a complimentary bottle of champagne waiting for us in our room at check-in. Went for our honeymoon and was everything we dreamed of and more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by dlm78 Lovely pool. Dated room. Expensive dining.
A nice hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean. The pool was fantastic (especially when the hotel room balcony overlooks it).
Built in 1986 our hotel room was very dated (built-in units, old marble bathroom, phone by the toilet) but very spacious. The bed was quite hard.
We found the restaurant expensive, especially the drinks.
The hotel in a few kilometres out of town which is great for quiet and beach proximity, but the hotel charges $7 (return) for the half-hourly shuttle bus. In my opinion, this should be free.
All-in I think the hotel is good. I would recommend to a friend but personally would try somewhere different next time in Port Douglas.

The hotel needs refurbishment. Cost saving (masked as 'green initiatives') - e.g. to discourage room cleaning (service), guests are offered a $15.00 voucher - this is placed under your door every single day and an additional bottle of wine is then offered to try and get you to take up the offer! . Perhaps to do with employing staff over Easter period at higher rates?
Dinner buffet meal was appalling - $80 per adult and $40 per child. Tried to provide this feedback to receptionist the following day and she rather sarcastically told me that other guest were quite happy and that I should fill in a feedback form. Two minutes later, another guest was at reception ranting about the food.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jeff86 Recent stay at Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas
My wife and I recently stayed 10 nights at the Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas. This was our firts time at this resort. We had an absolutely wonderful time. The staff were friendly and no request was too much trouble. The only drawback was the generator at the country club had broken down prior to our arrival meaning there was no a/c. The local electricity company were very inefficient as they still had not fixed it when we left. Perhaps engineering staff, who seemed disinterested when I attempted to find out when it would be repaired, could have been more procative in chasing the electricity company up.

Young girl at reception didn't smile At breakfast older chief didn't smile or acknowledge or ignored presence when arrived When booking there was no mention of the closure of cocktail lounge or smorgasboard not rotated as last visit so as Restaurant Menu was not changed we went into town a few nights for tea. Our Managers Cocktail Night never happened as on our deal. Porters were great Driveway lady could smile as twice been and never has.

Again we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay- pools facilities and staff were wonderful. Granted some of the Decor is a little dated but I have found that this does not detract from the experience at all. Your staff were fantastic and helpfull at all times. Your lagoon pools are unbeatable.

I would like to thank management for our most wonderful stay at Sheraton Mirage. We are from Carins and this is our fourth year staying at the resort for my partner's birthday. We were upgraded into the most beautiful room overlooking the lagoon and coconut trees with complimentary champagne. We also met really friendly and fun staff at the meet and greet drinks that night. Complimentary chocolates arrived at our door on my partner's birthday. Overall all stafff members were so friendly and fun and we had a much needed getaway...very relaxing. Thanks for making us feel special!! Love this place!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Priscilla11 Great family hotel
We enjoyed a one week stay recently. As a family with two children (5 & 7) the pools and surrounds are perfect. I was highly impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms and daily housekeeping. Staff were prompt and keen to assist us at any time.
We would have however liked more dining variety. We preferred il pescatore restaurant for esthetics and service over the Lagoon, however they were closed for the remaining four days of our stay so we limited to dining choice to Lagoon (which we tired of eating at after having had breakfast there) or Daintree lounge ( which was lovely but had a limited menu). The meals at il pescatore were amazing together with outdoor dining by the lagoon was perfect!

My wife and I were looking for a Resort in Port Douglas where we could spend our Honeymoon and we thought we would try the Sheraton Mirage. When we arrived at the Lobby a lovely Gentleman served us and explained all the different rooms we could choose from. We chose a room that we could afford and in conversation the gentleman serving us found out the occasion was our Honeymoon so he kindly upgraded our room to a Honeymoon suite for the same price. The room, service, facilities and food was first class. The whole experience made our honeymoon the best ever. My wife and I will be coming back in the next few months but this time we intend on staying for five nights. We are telling everybody wow thank you.

Rated 3 out of 5 Disappointing
We were booked for 4 nights with a large company conference. On arrival they did not have my SPG details noted on reservation. Our room had a disgusting smell which we were advised was from a humidifier being left on too long and there was no other room available. When we took our shoes off we released the carpet was wet outside the bathroom so We opened the windows and went to pool for a few hours. On return it had got worse so after complaining again we got moved to another room. However we had to wait for some time for new key and were then late for our welcome reception cocktail party. We still were not in an SPG preferred room. Resort definitely in need of a refurbishment however the location is beautiful.

Thanks to the hotel and staff you made my family and I very welcome, we are locals and we were in Port Douglas for the marathon as it was my first marathon. It was lovely to have a late check out. We would like to give some feedback in the kids program - please be more specific in the detail about the kids meals - it wasn't clear that we (adults) had to order something to eat for us for the kids to be able to eat for free at the pool area.

My fourth visit and again I'm very impressed. The location and setup of the resort is excellent. The staff are courteous and the meals are of a very good quality!!
It's probably getting close to the time for room renovations but they are still very good though getting a little tired!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Paul08 Customer service
While we found the hotel facilities excellent we were extremely disappointed with the level of customer service for this level of hotel. At 1 pint we waiting pool side for 1 and a half hours for a toasted sandwich and drink? The pool bar was never adequately attended by staff and frustration of waiting to be served meant no product was purchased.
While the facilities were excellent some of the entertainment like the 'aqua bubble' should have been free for quests. This also applies to the town shuttle service.
Overall, facilities great service below expectations for this hotel.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Jenny56 A Little Older But Comfortable
The rooms were very big and clean outlook over the garden was lovely. The bed very comfortable, The swimming pools are lovely. Because of the large swimming area there was no fighting for sun lounges or dodging kids in the pool. There was room for everyone. I enjoyed my stay immensely, it was a Secret Stay on Wotif, therefore excellent value for money. Would stay again if the price was right when visiting Port Douglas and would recommend this resort to others, all though I do have some friends particularly younger ones who want everything new in the room. I stress although some of facilities could be thought of as dated. I felt the comfort size, cleanliness and outlook from our room more than made up for that.

Despite the beauty of the grounds and luxury of the lagoons and the brilliant breaky buffet, a few things did let down the hotel. Cold reception staff member, porters driving past us as we struggle with our bags. Dessert arriving before entree in Pescatore restaurant. Drinks taking 30 mins to arrive at dinner buffett. Always being charged for the kids despite the SPG purple wrist bands they wore the whole time. Female pool bar staff member swearing for all to hear, cup of beer sitting by the lagoon for 3 days covered in ants. Upgrade the staff and we'd come back.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Mrsstram Very disappointed
This Sheraton was a dissapointment especially because it has such potential to be spectacular. Everything, rooms, lobby, pools area etc is shabby and old. But what was especially apparent was how little attention the green areas or landscaped areas are getting. Dead foliage everywhere and just not up to par with the other Sherarons we have visited. Staff was nice especially housekeeping. We also wondered why the bean is separate from the hotel. You can't see it and there are no chairs on it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Rusty71 Sheraton Mirage
Had a great 5 day stay in Mid October. The friendly Staff, and the Pools and surroundings, are absolutely brilliant and a highlight of this resort. Access to Four Mile beach, is like opening your front door, there it is!!
If there is a negative about this resort it would be some of the Transport Equipment, i.e the minibus, and Cart transport, both looked aged and sounded a bit average for a high quality resort. Also some of the room fittings are looking a bit sad, and dated. I played golf at the Mirage Resort, and also found the course to be a bit under the standard I would expect.
However overall we were more than happy with the Service and Accommodation that Sheraton provided us with, and would quite happily return again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Grants The Reef Suite ... magic!
We were fortunate to "win" 5 nights at Sheraton Mirage in a charity auction. We did not realise that the 5 nights were in the Reef Suite! Palatial is not overstating it. Great room, brilliant breakfasts, service and food in Il Pescatore delightful, and outstanding service from the Tour Desk. We would have to recommend Grub's Trike Tours in particular! Good value for money on the very attractive golf course, but the pool was just too warm. If that is the biggest complaint, then you have to know we just loved the resort. We really hope we can return soon.

Rated 3 out of 5 by JohnJ The Hotel needs an update and some TLC.
We've stayed at the Mirage several time over the last few years and always enjoyed our stay as we we like the lay out and location also the friendly and helpful staff.
But every year it's getting a little more run down. It needs general repairs, paint and a little TLC, even the gardens are getting overgrown and much of the lighting needs replacing.
Going to the bottom or top car park at night is a prime spot to trip and break a leg or worse, all for the lack of a few globes. It's even hard to find an ice machine that works.
Such a great place but it needs a large injection of Cash. We'll probably be back next year though we are looking at staying elsewhere in Port Douglas.
I wish I could be more positive as we really like the place.

First, the positives, great location, good food and the bed was very comfortable. Now things to work on. The grounds need to be kept up more. Pools, walkways, etc.Need more parking, very hard to find a spot at night. The front desk did not meet my expectations. As you know service is very important. The staff at the front desk was not helpful and friendly. They tryed to upgrade me at check-in for half the normal cost. When I went to see the room it was a downgrade from the room that was assigned to me already. For a sheraton resort I just expected more.

My husband could not believe me that I hadn't told Sheriton it was his 50th Birthday. They made us both feel very special, beyond day 1. Always friendly and always helpful. Buffet breakfast was the best. Dinner at the restaurant was just the making of wonderful memories, the food was exceptional as was the ambience of our candle lit dinner. We had to pinch ourselves that it was all so perfect. Even the travel desk had the local knowledge to make our days out amazing. Loved the golf course. The Sheriton Mirage was the perfect place to stay.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Sandlj Lovely as always
The hotel has changed very little in the last 16 years. The grounds are beautiful, rooms comfortable and the location suits us perfectly as we like our own privacy away from the crowds of town. The staff were helpful and friendly with a special mention to Soni at reception and Oonaugh who took extra care and pride when cleaning our room. Our only disappointment was the buffet breakfast. Gone are the days of smoked salmon, cheeses and exotic fruits. Oh, and the gym was awful. We will return as always to this beautiful setting....The Mirage

Stayed here for 12 days and enjoyed all of it...staff upon arrival until daparture a credit to the Sheraton, special note for Sharon, she couldn't do enough for us...thanks a million..breakfast perfect...fantastic pools and grounds only a couple of downsides, nowhere near enough sun loungers (although they are awaiting delivery of 400 more so shouldn't be a problem in the future) and too many children, but not a issue...perhaps one thing the sheraton needs to look it is the shuttle bus into town, it should be free of chage for guests...

Rated 3 out of 5 by Romeo Wonderful location, but needs a facelift.
The Sheraton Port Douglas would have been a wonderful hotel when it was first built. Its location as absolute beachfront on Four Mile Beach at Port Douglas is second to none. The staff were equally wonderful, in particular Matt and Andrew on the front desk, and Sulie in Il Pescatore Restaurant were exceptional in their customer service skills. HOwever the resort is tired and past its prime. The rooms were so aged, with many things not working properly (such as the shutters which we had to close with a hair elastic!) and everything badly in need of painting or replacing. The public areas are in much better condition thank goodness, and worthy of the ownership of Sheraton. The rooms, alas, not so. Surrounded by so many new resorts, we fear for the future of this hotel.
