This year we found that prime pool side chairs were pre-reserved day after day for certain "guests" and they never showed up. These reserved chairs would be released to other guests as late as 4:00---one guest was by herself and had 2 chairs held for her every day. This visit, we discovered that the once free Royal Hawaiian beachside chairs now cost a rental fee of $20.00 per day per chair -plus tax?? In the previous years, the chairs were free to guests on a first come first serve basis---there were very few guests sitting at the beach as a result of this fee. Having access to our own private beach area was one of the perks of this hotel that brought us back year after year. We also did not have our usual complimentary fruit bowl and banana bread in our room when we arrived.. I received my fruit and bread on my last day???? My sister is a gold member and she never received these items in her room. There were many times that we would head back to our rooms at the end of a long pool day (4-5pm) and our rooms were in the process of being cleaned so we had to wait to enter our rooms.

Rated 3 out of 5 by NotHappy5 Charges extra for beach chairs
Hotel charges $40/day for 2 beach chairs and umbrella. Pool chairs are free, but always fully occupied. A hotel with this heritage and class should include these expected amenities in the room rate.

The Royal Hawaiian Hotel wasnt just a stay, but an experience. Everything was first class! Traditional mixed with modern in perfect harmony. If you want the best of Honolulu, stay at this hotel.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Drwms7012 As a SPG Platinum this hotel offers nothing in extras. None of the usual amenities that we usually always receive.
Do not stay here if you expect the usual upgrades and services that a platinum member receives.
You will get zero , no robes, no slippers, no breakfeast, no room upgrades and of course no club!

My wife and I recently had the best time we have had in years at the Royal Hawaiian. It was there in 1965 when I was just a teenager and is still there. It is the Grande Dame of Waikiki.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Rocket SPG points - Not cosidered squal to money
I get a room which is the FURTHEST FROM THE ELEVATOR
Why are points not considered money by the hotels ?
Why is American Express Air Travel SO EXPENSIVE ?
Is this really worth it?

Very hot in the rooms, no A/C in the hallway, such an expensive hotel and yet you have to pay 15$ a day for internet services, food needs improvement for in-room dining

Great service and attention to detail. Very relaxing with a peaceful atmosphere. Very nice for older people or families that don't want a lot of loud, partying people.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Henry06 Riding on the coattails of previous success.
Our stay at this hotel was a rather unfortunate experience.
Our original room was very small with two full beds rather than the king size bed we had reserved. Staff did not appear at all interested in rectifying the situation, seemingly treating our transfer request as an inconvenience. Their aloof attitudes along with the 1/2 hour wait time to resolve the issue was not the service we had expected.
We were surprised to see that our room with the king bed was even smaller than our original room. The new room was situated right next to a hotel service room. Each morning we were woken at 6:00 with loud noises of running equipment coming from the service room.
The pool and hot tub were not at all an attraction as they were both very small, and hidden in the shade.
Hotel parking is not easily accessible, and it took over 20 minutes for us to retrieve our vehicle from the valet upon exiting the hotel.
The Royal Hawaiian has a great history, but the current accommodation and service is sub-par. If you are interested in this hotel, I would suggest that you simply tour the hotel during your stay in Honolulu, while making your accommodation elsewhere
