I do not care for animals being allowed in all the rooms, I have severe allergy problems to animal dander, this should be considered for your future guest.

Rated 5 out of 5 by VinATL Renovations finally complete
I've stayed at the HHI Westin for over 30 nights over the past 8 years so I feel most qualified to rate this hotel. The renovations completed this spring finally brings the HHI Westin back up to the Westin standards. The rooms are very modern, comfortable and clean and what you are used to at other Westin hotels. The two pools have received facelifts. The pool deck has been re-surfaced and now there is plenty of seating surrounding the pools. Oceans restaurant has a new menu and have undergone renovations. The staff are turned over and much improved from the from previous years. The Spa continues to be excellent. The giftshop is much more welcoming.
The location is amazing and the beach is very clean and family friendly.
The SPG Platinum ammenities are outstanding which include: free valet parking, daily breakfast buffet for 2 (a very good value), upgraded rooms. They are finally providing late check outs for Plats which was never granted previously to me.
Overall, I'm happy that the Westin is again the premier spot to visit on HHI. I have a feeling that the secret will get out again and crowds will return to the Westin. I hope that the hotel management can keep these high standards for years to come.

I frequently stay at Starwood properties but received some of the best service I've had at this one. Upon checking in Charlotte told us that it was our 50th stay at a Starwood. It was my first wedding anniversary and she had a bottle of wine delivered to our room. The next day on our actual anniversary a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries were left as a gift. We also met two great bartenders (one at Splash and the other at View 32 from N. Ireland) and a wonderful poolside waitress. We plan to be back and are recommending the resort to our friends and family.
Thank you for making our trip a success and our anniversary memorable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Ice3 Hotel on the Cusp of being great
This property has the potential to be an outstanding property with some additional customer service. The renovation is top notch as the rooms, facilities and beach proximity are fantastic. However, there are some cosmetic flaws which needs to be addressed.
Upon check in, it was discovered that my reservation was incorrect, after much discussion, there was no attempt to rectify the error as I was informed that I had already checked in and nothing could be done after check in.
I had to go to the front desk a minimum of 6 times over a 72 hour period to have my room card configured again and again, only to hear that they were having multiple problems with the latest box of room cards. A minor inconvenience to repeatedly have to go by the front desk.
Whirlpool hot tub was not heating properly on the afternoon I choose to use the pool. A staff member apologized and suggested we return in 30-45 minutes as it cools down.
Someone lost 4 false fingernails as they were in the hallway for 3 days. Hallways should be vacuumed daily.
Upon check out, the final receipt was incorrect, the individual at the front desk was able to correct the error after I had to validate my claim with an e-mail copy.
Beautiful property, that can excel with additional customer service!

This hotel was very clean. I was bummed there was no store yet because I left home without face wash or lotion, assuming that a beach island would have plenty of areas for me to grab some. It seems like this hotel is by the golf courses, and has its own private beach entrance, but it is a very secluded beach area. It was not what I was hoping for on my honeymoon. We had to go down to a much farther area to find more people hanging out at the beach.
I also told them it was our honeymoon and they did nothing even though my friends have always told me SPG will either give food vouchers, strawberries, or a better room. I was happy to be on the SPG floor, however.
I liked the bathroom and the shower.
Our window view was a bunch of trees, so it seemed a little anti climatic.
All the rooms are noisy and you can hear someone from another room closing and opening their bathroom door, talking, anything. Luckily I don't think the hotel was very busy during our stay.
Loved the luggage closet. We were able to check out but come back for our luggage when our taxi service came to pick us up.
There were lots of pools and no one was really in them. That's a plus, since hotel photos of pools show a desolate pool area but the reality is a sardine can.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LoveTheWestin Fantastic Stay
We had an excellent stay at the Westin Hilton Head. I am writing this sitting from our beautiful ocean front room (upgraded via SPG Platinum status). Love the fact that as a platinum you have both breakfast buffet comped (my choice rewards) and valet is comped. The staff and service has been great. We especially enjoyed Gavin as our server for breakfast every morning.....he really made each morning nice for our family. As a frequent business traveler and someone who is very picky about what hotels I stay in while on vacation, we will definitely return to this property again in the future. Thanks for making this trip a memorable one!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Anonymous06152013 Second Stay
This is the second time my family had stay at this property and we really enjoyed the new renovations and we enjoyed the rooms but we had a horrible experience at the restaurant. We had arrived at 6pm but our food wasn't served until 7pm. When we asked the waiter why it was taking so long he simply laughed it off and the bread was not served until our meal was served. Two of us ordered salads yet were served without dressing and the rest of us had our food that was well over cooked. I would have to say that if the restaurants could also receive a new renovation along with some additional training for the staff it could have been a better experience.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Schoon80 Second class customer
We got to the hotel in hilton head SC and we were initially impressed by the look of the hotel even though there was a huge roach in the elevator from the parking garage. We assumed it got in from the outside. For starters we were there with certificates for a free stay because my mother stayed a few months earlier and had such a bad experience they gave her those vouchers and assured her it would be fixed and a better experience next time. Since she was out of the country, she gave them to me. We had asked for conjoining rooms since there were 6 of us and three were small children. We got there and they said they didn't have any. After asking to double check, the guy on night shift said he found one set. We were happy to be accommodated, got our keys and went up. The first step off of the elevator, we were blown back by the stench of wet, mildew, just plan nasty odor. We went to the room and call the front desk. They just happened to find another set of conjoined rooms on a different floor. We move all of our luggage and three small kids to the 5th floor. The air in one room didn't work(and we slammed the door to the patio as instructed and made sure the lock was engaged) if the door is open, the air won't run. It didn't matter, it still didn't work. Then in the same room, the toilet wouldn't flush at all. In the other room, the toilet over flowed and absolutely no toilet paper was used. Now with pee on the floor, we had to change rooms again. Guess what, they found a third set of conjoined rooms. So at almost midnight, we drag the now sleeping children to the third room. To get to the third set, we had to talk with the night manager who basically said there was nothing else he could do since we were there with what he said were gift vouchers even though they were given because of the bad experience the first time when my mom paid full price to stay. His tone and his words made us feel like second class citizens staying there on welfare and our needs weren't good enough. We are big travelers and have stayed at the westin in various other locations and thought luxury and relaxation. This experience left of stressed, unwanted and not very well rested. To too it all off, we found out the westin took out money from our checking account without telling us. We were told by the day manager that we should have been notified at check in which wouldn't have been a big deal if we were told, but people taking money without saying anything...there is a term for that and I believe it is called stealing. My budget for business travel last year was over 7500.00 and a good bit of that went to the westin, but it will be hard to ever step foot inside a westin or Starwood again because of this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by jdandld Wonderful Anniversary Trip
My wife and I recently celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary together at the Westin Hilton Head. It was our first vacation in years, and we didn't know what to expect. We were first greeted by Hannah at the front desk. She was warm, pleasant, and professional. She took the time to give us a personal tour of the beautiful facilities, and was absolutely delightful. She also helped to upgrade us to an Ocean View room since it was our anniversary, and the room was truly amazing. We had a minor issue with the air conditioning unit during the middle of the night, and Gary at the front desk went out of his way to correct the problem for us. Maintenance was dispatched to correct the problem immediately, and we felt Gary was a hero for helping us to resolve the issue at 4:00 in the morning. We indulged ourselves at the amazing onsite Spa facilities, and we received first rate service from Jeremy at the Spa reception desk. He helped us get the appointment times that worked best for us, and more importantly he had an excellent sense of humor. The pool area was fantastic, and that is where we spent most of our time. The pools were large, clean, and they had both sun and shade sitting options available. The pool staff was wonderful as well, especially Katie who took time to get to know us while we spent hours at the pool. She went out of her way to spoil us, and to make sure we did not want for anything food and drink wise. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a beautiful getaway. The facilities are of course first rate, but it is the wonderful staff that truly helps to make this a special place.

Rated 5 out of 5 by golfer2 Enjoyed the stay except for front desk incident
Everything was enjoyable except for the fact that my key stopped working at 12 PM instead of 3 PM on the day of checkout. When I went to the front desk to have the key updated the attendant had an attitude and said checkout was at noon so I showed her the email on my iPhone declaring extended checkout and then she updated the key. The person was not Jenn but another girl with blonde hair working that day 12/8 around 1245 PM. Your system should reflect what the email states to avoid this in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ToniCTravelAmeniti1 A Potential Dream Place on a sleepy Island
Just returned from this property. It supposed to be a dream place on a sleepy island.
While we enjoyed our stay, here are some issues I want to raise:
SPG recognition: Terrible. When we checked in we were not treated as platinum members. I requested a suite upgrade using the suite night rewards. My request was denied. The "upgraded" room we got was terrible. The balcony door glass was not washed in months (or maybe years) and the balcony was all peeled off ( I have pictures to prove it). We finally got a suite upgrade for our last night there.
I have to say that Chris (one of the managers) has great skills and he is a people and service person. We received excellent service from him.
Renovation: this property really needed it. Overall the property looks great and the pool area even greater. However, because they did the renovation while being open, it does not look like a 35 mil renovation. It is unequal and subpar.
One of the most bothersome issues at this property: if you stay in the north tower you need to know that there is only one elevator which is at the far end of the building close to the pool and beach. It is odd. It is always a long line and a long wait.
This property is short on towels. The towels are not Westin quality. 2-3 days they ran out of towels and then they began to only give one towel per person. To cover the chairs (which are not very clean) you need 2 towels. This is very cheap and gives the feeling of low class service.
Food: Breakfast is good. For dinner the options are limited. At Carolina you have exactly 6 options for entrée and about the same for Oceans. Oceans provides delicious food. One of the most inconvenient things is the fact that Carolina restaurant does not have a restroom. You need to travel a really long way to the lobby to be able to find one. Ridiculous.
The all inclusive pass for kids is very confusing and at times embarrassing. Employees are not informed about and everyone has a different take on it. However, this could be a very good and valuable program for kids.
We enjoyed the property, the food, the island, the beach, the golf course, and the service overall.
I am leaving a 5 star review because of location and people like Chris, Patricia, etc.
This is a great place for families, conference, weddings, etc.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Geekout2 Gift Shop Kills Repeat Business
It may sound petty, but I will not be going back to this hotel simply because their gift shop prices were completely ridiculous. To me when a hotel allows a vendor to mark up the price of an item more than 300%, that says to me that they don't really care about me or they are not monitoring the vendors they allow in their hotel. $4.69 for a 20 oz. Diet Coke. Room service was equally outrageously overpriced. I can certainly afford to spend that kind of money, but for me it was more the principal of the matter. I'll take my business next time to a place that doesn't try to nickel and dime their guests.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Billbo Hotel very modern & convenient
Our Thanksgiving getaway from snow & ice got off to a great start thanks to the Concierge, CM, as I contacted her ahead of arrival and she had Thanksgiving dinner reservations set up and other entertainment reservations worked on before arrival. Also, the bellman/valet were very helpful. The hotel is beautifully renovated in modern contemporary style. Fabulous beach & convenient golfing. Gorgeous grounds.

Rated 4 out of 5 by WTA88 Great Stay Overall
Recently stayed 4 nights for a conference and was very impressed by the updates / renovations. The room and lobby decor was very tasteful and well done. Our bed was very comfortable and the room and bathroom were very nice. Our 5th floor view of the beach was perfect. The food that was served at breakfast and both our buffet and plated dinner was very good considering the quantity. The pool and beach front were both very nice and the poolside staff was very accommodating. Check in was quite a drawn out process, much to be expected on a Saturday. My only real problem was the complete lack of cell phone service on the property which made keeping tabs on business virtually impossible.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Indy18 July 4th week
The hotel was beauitful; gardens and pool area were delightful; staff was terrific. But, we had issues for 4 days straight with our air conditioning. We had to have people in our room every day as they tried to fix our cooling system. I would have thought that the hotel manager would have called us or even mentioned it when we checked out, but there was nothing. I think this is disappointing. Lastly, it was sometimes hard to get chairs and towels because it was so busy. I know that there were pool crashers so would have liked it to be better monitored for them - especically during a busy time

We had never been to HH so we decide to stay on our way from Disney with grandkids. After a couple of rat race days at the parks it was very relaxing to come to the beach relax & take walks on the beach. It was mid Oct so the resort was very quite. They have 3 pools very nice one heated. with a nice large whirlpool.
The staff was great from check-in to check-out. We are platinum members of SPG, we were offer basic breakfast & was upgraded to full buffet. very nice. Overall our stay was very relaxing. we enjoyed the scenic view from our upgraded room.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CMFinch I am a lifetime platinum member.....
I titled my review this way to indicate that I have seen quite a few Westins in my life and have quite a few experiences to compare. This hotel gets a strong 4.5 for my recent stay. From what I read in reviews it made me nervous booking. Specifically, the reviews seem to be before the remodel, or guests may not have had the pleasure of staying in a remodeled room like we did. Nonetheless, the property is beautiful, staff very friendly and amenities more that adequate for my family and I. I would make 3 suggestions to the hotel....improve pool area service, the elevators are in poor working condition and update the photos on the SPG website so potential guests can see the newly renovated atmosphere.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Tash2013 Of my many stays at this hotel, this one was the worst
We have stayed at this hotel at least a dozen times. The remodeling is well done and the facility was neat and fresh.
I would not recommend this facility over Thanksgiving weekend. The service was lackluster. The property was understaffed in almost every area.
Check in was slow and tedious. We waited a long time for our luggage to be delivered.
The food was mediocre and a poor value. The breakfast buffet is nothing like it used to be. It was more like a third tier "Breakfast is Free" hotel chain.
The decorations were uninspired. The dinner tables were decorated with a single gourd. We were embarrassed for you.
We had to ask for our room to be cleaned—this has never ever happened before.
There was not much to do. Only one fire pit for the entire hotel. When it is cold, there are no other activities.
Usually the outside gardens are meticulously manicured. This time, lots of leaves and debris. Also, lots of used towels around heated pool and hot tub.
We had planned to go to the spa, but because the service was so poor in every other area we decided against it.

This resort is outstanding! I have been staying at this resort for over 20 years and it is in the best condition that it has ever been. The recent renovations have made this resort a 5 diamond resort. They have added an outdoor bar that is absolutely amazing. The staff that are at the resort make you feel as if you are at home. Chris in the front office really cares about every guests experience he goes above and beyond to make sure every guest at the resort is having an outstanding stay. I would recommend this resort without reservation. You will have an outstanding stay!

Rated 2 out of 5 by LCS24 What happened to customer service?
We have come here annually for the past 4 years and this, so far, has been our worst experience. There have been changes, and not just to the decor. The front desk manager at check-in was disdainful, to the point of being rude, and singularly unhelpful. The rooms are no longer as they appear on line and we too like another guest did not have the pull out couch option for our child. I asked to have the balcony door cleaned as it was dirty to where you could not see out of it and no one ever came to clean it. Hopefully, our visit will improve from our first day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ekmetz four days away with the kids
We decided to try Hilton head for the first time .it was our anniversary and yes we had the kids with us. I had booked a king size bed and a pull out couch room .Krystin at check in notice I had the kids and did ask if we wanted 2 queen beds . I explained it was our anniversary and I really wanted the room with the king bed and the pull out couch the kids are little and they like the couch .Krystin delivered and we got the room and ocean view also . the room was beautiful colors they used to decorate are so perfect for the area we were in very soothing beach feel .I loved the bathroom the floors are so beautiful. my only concern was that while a in the shower all soaped up or rinsing out conditioner the tub becomes very very slippery as there are no grips on the tub floor . yes the tub looks great without them but it might be a hazard to the elderly or small children. we retuned back to our room one evening to find a bottle of champagne and chocolate strawberries , I called the front desk to ask why, thinking they were delivered to the wrong room . well Krystin at the front desk sent them and wished us a happy anniversary . thank -you, thank-you, that made our stay !!!
the pool area and all the grounds are just beautiful . I would love to come back and see it in warmer weather . it was very cold the days we visited but the kids and my husband did go swimming in the heated pool. also the hotel is located right on the beach so nice to get up and walk on the beach when ever you want.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Glowie Just the right size resort
The Westin HHI is a beautiful resort that isn't too small or too large. Grounds are easy to navigate & the beach is easy access. Some of the rules are a bit too stringent like not allowing coolers on the deck. Who wants to lug all that stuff back to the room before being able to enjoy the pool? I recommend getting the breakfast included as it is a great value and wonderful service. For those traveling with pets, bring your own pick up bags & flashlight as the relief area does not provide bags or good lighting at night.. Lastly, in spite of the false fire alarm on 9/9/13-we would go back. Watch out for the Love Bugs in Sept. which are a huge annoyance poolside. Good vacation and very nice place. Self Parking underground is the way to go, tricky to find though.

The hotel staff was great. Scott checked us in and made us feel welcome. This was a great SPG rewards stay. The pools were a bit crowded but the hotel is located right on a great beach where the hotel provided life guards. We weren't too satisfied with the hotel restaurant but Hilton Head has a ton to offer. There is a Walmart and Costco nearby. The breakfast buffet was the best we've seen in a long time. The staff is very friendly and there is plenty of fresh fruit. We would love to revisit this resort.
