Room was not clean, pegs on walls in bathroom didn't hold towels/robes, pegs missing on downstairs bathroom. The service in the restaurant was very very weak and substandard for Starwood. At breakfast 5-6 waiters talking, setting tables, not paying attention to serving coffee immediately, not bringing items ordered, having to ask 3 times for coffee, food, etc. During the late afternoon the sun is blinding in all parts of the restaurant. Very poor design. Consierge didn't know local sights including Culzean Castle which is 10 minutes away. This property is one of the best locations in all of the Starwood portfolio, and the service is terrible. The general manager should be put on notice and a quality control team sent there immediately to inspect all aspects of service. Since it is one of the top golf resorts in the world, maybe Starwood doesn't care that the service is bad. It seemed to be full anyway, but it certainly doesn't reflect we'll on Starwood. I have been a Platinum and Gold member for a long time. The spa facility needs updating. The service in the golf shop and restaurant was excellent. The room service staff (Robert) was excellent.

The hotel overall was beautiful from the grounds and breathtaking views to the the lobby, bar, and restaurant.
My party dined at the 1906 restaurant for dinner one night and the food and service were outstanding. The staff was very attentive and the food exceeded all of our expectations, and I am one picky foodie.
My hotel room, however, was something different altogether. My room was decorated in an English country cottage theme from the 1950's with no apparent update in 60 years. For a hotel with a spectacular view, the view from my room simply didn't exist. I was on the first floor and looked out into other rooms. Not a view of the sea or even the parking lot ... simply nothing.
I felt as if the hotel elected to avoid any cost of updating the hotel rooms into the 21st century since it was able to get by on the location and association with the Turnberry golf course. If not for the golf, this place would be empty if judged on rooms alone.
That said, one cannot beat the view and the golf. I imagine the hotel will thrive no matter how bad the rooms or even if the service were terrible. I don't see anyone coming if he / she is not playing golf.

Just returned from a 3 Day, 2 Nights stay at the Turnberry Resort. Although we found the hotels Main Areas to be acceptable the same cannot be said for our room. Disappointing is an understatement. Having stayed in various other 5 star hotels I have to say that Tirmberry must rank as one of the worst to date. Overall the room was tired & worn with several stains dotted over the decidedly grubby carpet. The bathoom fittings were showing their age & a floor of cracked tiles completed the look. 2 english t/bags per day were hardly adequate if we felt like a cuppa when we did decide to be in the room. Housekeeping was obviously lacking as we had to report on our checkout day that a bulb had been out in the bathroom during all of our stay & one of the bedside lamps was unable to be used as appeared to be ready to blow a fuse every time it was switched on. We were offered a newspaper each morning - received not one! All in all a memorable experience but sadly for all the wrong reasons. Extremely annoyed that our visit was tainted by the lack of the 5star luxury promised & all that could be mustered at best was 2/3 star accomodation. Very poor show Turnberry!

This remains one of my favourite properties in the Starwood hotel portfolio.
The welcome from the doorman with his confident poise, posture and pronouncements was terrific and the reception staff provided a warm welcome. Supper in the 1906 restaurant was tasty and delivered well and the team in the Spa, were attentive and genuine.
However in other areas the service was patchier than remembered on previous visits. It was necessary to send out a search party for the luggage some considerable time after arriving in the bedroom.
The breakfast service was below par to say the least. A few examples follow, buffet bowls of food were on display without serving cutlery; the service was tardy, food was delivered in an untimely fashion. The cooked breakfast could just about be described as warm. Overall there appeared a lack of attentiveness at breakfast, this was particularly disappointing as there restaurant was deserted with staff outnumbering the guests. Rather than write further details here, I would be happy to provide some more information and feedback to the F&B management team, if needed.
Loyalty to Starwood was however well recognised.
As a tip, look out for special offers for Platinum members in the Spa.

It is as always the little things and the attention to detail which makes all the difference. Turnberry ticks all the boxes and the staff are wonderful. It is very hard to find fault at all in any aspect of our visit however I do think that a couple of small points of detail do need attention in order to have made of our visit perfect. The iconic view of the hotel from the golf courses include the red path and iconic flights of steps all the way from the road to the front door. The path was in real need of repair and recovering and the edges of the path, part of the par 3 course, were in a terrible state and needed attention. The steps themselves had seen some running repairs by way of some "filler" which people had trodden in and left footprints. For something, such a part of the hotel, to be in this state was a little disappointing as for very little cost and time investment it could be all once more restored to it's former glory. There were also some small flower beds on the way through to the Spa which were in need of attention.
I do not wish to seem overly critical as we did have a wonderful time at Turnberry, as we have had many times before. I would recommend it to anyone without hesitation.

Bought this as a gift for my other half for a break away from our kids on living social with the spa and upgraded to the deluxe double room. The spa was the best part for me, experience is out of this world, had the intensive facial and felt so relaxed, whole set up is bliss. Staff were lovely and friendly.
On the other hand, as we had upgraded and considering this is supposed to be a 5star hotel would have expected the room to be much cleaner. Their was marks everywhere on the window's and all the mirrors, the shower also had black horrible looked like muck pouring from it when turned on was absolutely disgusting. Although there was a lovely big bath so used that - this was also dirty looked as though it needed a good scrubbing with some bleach. But would have expected an apology or something, when explained this to the receptionist she didn't even apologise this I found very concerning.
Also had a problem with my card, visa electron enough said this card is temperamental. This was not a big issue as we had cash and I was made very uncomfortable at this point and slightly embarrassed. I had already settled my bill and this other staff member decided to have a 10 minute conversation about my card being declined, after the bill had already been paid by cash. This was going on in the reception area with other people around listening. I have never felt so uncomfortable and out of sort as I felt in this situation.
We did not dine in restaurant went for the Ailsa Bar - would not rate this, partner got fish and chips did not enjoy this at all, pizza was not up to much. Just average. Staff were really friendly though. Also had breakfast, this was lovely, sausage and eggs were great and staff also lovely.
Should I not have had these issues or perhaps things were dealt with appropriately I think my overall experience may have been better, I would definitely visit the spa again but the hotel was a big disappointment for me unfortunately.
