Rated 5 out of 5 by Little Things It is as always the little things and the attention to detail which makes all the difference. Turnberry ticks all the boxes and the staff are wonderful. It is very hard to find fault at all in any aspect of our visit however I do think that a couple of small points of detail do need attention in order to have made of our visit perfect. The iconic view of the hotel from the golf courses include the red path and iconic flights of steps all the way from the road to the front door. The path was in real need of repair and recovering and the edges of the path, part of the par 3 course, were in a terrible state and needed attention. The steps themselves had seen some running repairs by way of some "filler" which people had trodden in and left footprints. For something, such a part of the hotel, to be in this state was a little disappointing as for very little cost and time investment it could be all once more restored to it's former glory. There were also some small flower beds on the way through to the Spa which were in need of attention. I do not wish to seem overly critical as we did have a wonderful time at Turnberry, as we have had many times before. I would recommend it to anyone without hesitation. May 28, 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Turnberry Short Break - Dog Friendly? Having not been to Turnberry Hotel for some years we were pleasantly surprised by the positive changes that have been made. From the friendly meet and greet by your contemporary tartan bedecked ghillie, to the recently refurbished rooms with views unsurpassed on the Scottish mainland, our stay was most enjoyable. Your Afternoon Teas are second to none offering a fine feast in great surrounds with an education on all things tea from your knowledgeable staff. Equally so in the dining room where we sampled your delicious Orkney Gold Chateaubriand it took great restraint to leave a small sampler for our pet dog who was staying with us during this trip. It was just a pity that our little four legged companion was not allowed, as a general rule, in any of the public areas which though is understandable, was a shame as it restricted our sampling of even more of your fabulous dining options. If there was at least one designated area, such as the 'Tappie Tourrie' golf course bar, which allowed us to hydrate and dine with our four legged companion after a good long walk on your marvellous beach our stay would have been complete. As it was your in-room dining and other general arrangements for our 'petcation' were still great and most recommended. December 10, 2012

Rated 3 out of 5 by Great spa We had an average hotel experience. We enjoyed our stay because the staff were particularly helpful and pleasant. However the dining room staff didn't appear to have sufficient training. They couldn't cope with ipads displaying the wine list, didn't know the house wine, didn't know prices, couldn't dedcribe dishes on the menu. The menu was dated: prawn cocktail, steak Diane and crepe Suzette is very "seventies". Breakfast was a surprise as I would not have expected tinned fruit salad and there was also a large bowl of tinned or frozen strawberries when I'd have expected the fruit to be fresh. Caroline, on reception was wonderful and the spa staff were excellent but generally I felt the hotel had got stuck in a time warp. Overall we enjoyed our experience as we are a fundamentally happy family but the hotel itself was crying out for effective management who would ensure that staff received the proper training. Room 116 was not a luxrious room and was in need of refurbishment- it was very disappointing. It had dirty grouting round tiling and a horribly stained and used shower curtain. The table lamp fused and was never returned. Room 122 is a lovely room, however it lacked a mirror and a socket positioned near each other. A basic necessity in a bedroom is a mirror beside an electrical socket. December 30, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great hotel Stayed for one night, hotel is an amazing sight as you drive up the long driveway! Reception was super quick, and staff were so friendly, especially Lambert. We were given a tour and then headed to our room. Unfortunately as we made our way there, we were trailed by a few staff members who whispered and giggled. They were behind us the whole way, and as we let ourselves into our room they disappeared into the next door room. This must have been some sort of staff room as all day/evening/night/morning we could hear the door banging open & shut and people talking. Rather disruptive! We did try to call reception to say but no one answered and we didn't want to make a fuss. The room itself was cosy & well furnished, the bathroom was huge! We had a few problems with the tv not connecting but managed to puzzle it out. Had dinner at The Tappie Toorie which was lovely. Staff not as friendly as in main hotel however, and slow service although it was quiet (4 tables in) food was delicious though. Breakfast was amazing, so much choice, and a great view from the 1906. Concierge/reception again were fantastic in organising a bike ride for my partner and I, nothing was too much trouble! Never made it for a swim as we were exhausted after cycling! Overall I would thoroughly recommend Turnberry, although if you are in room 241 I would be warned about the noise! March 16, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by A Memorable Experience The Turnberry Resort is the epitome of what a Luxury Collection hotel should be. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed warmly and treated like important guests. Although the Suite Night upgrade was not available (unless we wanted to change rooms mid-visit), it's hard to imagine that the ocean-view room we occupied could have been beat. The soaking tub was amazing and the heated floor in the bathroom was wonderful. We also enjoyed having a balcony and the sunset views were stunning. The morning buffet held us over until dinner and the day we indulged in high tea, we walked away pleasantly full. Our room was kept spotless throughout our stay....never had to request extra towels....they just appeared. The common areas of the hotel exude a feel of luxury....not "stuffy" luxury, but an elegant, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. But most of all, the staff of this hotel is superb! Indeed, every staff member we interacted with was incredibly accommodating, helpful and informative. We followed their individual advice to visit some out-of-the way places and were not disappointed. They called us by name, filled our every request and made us feel at home. We wish we could recognize each of them individually but several names escape us. Our experience at Turnberry was memorable and we highly recommend that anyone visiting Scotland make an effort to stay at this resort. August 1, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Excellent food/ Staff - some issues Our stay started badly as I had upgraded to an Ocean View room, no-one informed us that you need to stand with your arms on the windowsill to see the ocean! i feel the website is very misleading to show images of rooms with full length windows. Please be aware of this. I callled reception and they did try and assist us but nothing suitable was available and in the end my upgrade cost was deducted from the bill. In addition, the windows were dirty, the wi-fi signal was none existent in our room and find it disappointing, if anyone could get it, that you need to pay for a faster speed in a 5 star hotel. The room was cold when we went in, turned the radiatiors on but one was very noisy. The silicone in the bathroom was also a little tired looking & in need of some attention. another issue was there were plenty of plug sockets in the room but only one on display that had a square plug socket, all were circular! we had to move the beside table, unplug the light to charge a phone and use a hairdryer at the same time. The public areas in the Spa are a little cold when we were walking to the main building. On a positive note, the beds are very comfortable and the staff were excellent, The food in 1906 was fantatstic and we enjoyed drinks in the bar after dinner. Breakfast was superb with a fantastic view.. The public areas in the main hotel are lovely & relaxing and the Christmas decoration were beautiful. December 6, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Poor Customer Service, Outdated Rooms Very disappointed with this resort. I just returned from a 3 night stay and we had two rooms 106 and 107, and both rooms were extremely unimpressive and are in need of major renovations Our room looked nothing like the rooms on the website. We had wonderful weather all week, which made the rooms extremely hot. The hotel was empty and they guy at the front desk would not give us a room with air conditioning even with the hotel being 20% occupied. This should not happen at a 5* resort, service was unimpressive. I called guest services to use an adapter and they wanted to charge 5 pounds, cant stand when expensive hotels try and nickel and dime you once you get to the hotel, very tasteless. The room was not cleaned during our stay, the only thing the maid did was give us new towels and make up our beds. The entire section of the hotel needs major renovations, our room was completely outdated from the gross/old looking carpet, to the dated wallpaper, the 1970's phone in the bathroom, the "old" smell, no air conditioning, etc. Overall I was extremely disappointed and would not return to this hotel until major renovations were completed and the staff improves in their customer service. We also tried to exchange US dollars for pounds and the same young guy with glasses at the front desk said he would not be able to because it would mess up his "float" money, again this guy was not customer service oriented. Rated 4 out of 5 by Beautiful Hotel Bought this as a gift for my other half for a break away from our kids on living social with the spa and upgraded to the deluxe double room. The spa was the best part for me, experience is out of this world, had the intensive facial and felt so relaxed, whole set up is bliss. Staff were lovely and friendly. On the other hand, as we had upgraded and considering this is supposed to be a 5star hotel would have expected the room to be much cleaner. Their was marks everywhere on the window's and all the mirrors, the shower also had black horrible looked like muck pouring from it when turned on was absolutely disgusting. Although there was a lovely big bath so used that - this was also dirty looked as though it needed a good scrubbing with some bleach. But would have expected an apology or something, when explained this to the receptionist she didn't even apologise this I found very concerning. Also had a problem with my card, visa electron enough said this card is temperamental. This was not a big issue as we had cash and I was made very uncomfortable at this point and slightly embarrassed. I had already settled my bill and this other staff member decided to have a 10 minute conversation about my card being declined, after the bill had already been paid by cash. This was going on in the reception area with other people around listening. I have never felt so uncomfortable and out of sort as I felt in this situation. We did not dine in restaurant went for the Ailsa Bar - would not rate this, partner got fish and chips did not enjoy this at all, pizza was not up to much. Just average. Staff were really friendly though. Also had breakfast, this was lovely, sausage and eggs were great and staff also lovely. Should I not have had these issues or perhaps things were dealt with appropriately I think my overall experience may have been better, I would definitely visit the spa again but the hotel was a big disappointment for me unfortunately. Rated 5 out of 5 by The best hotel experience I ever had We stayed for 3 nights in this hotel and I can only describe the experience as gluttonous. From the second you pull up, you know that sole goal of the staff is to make sure they can do whatever you need to make the trip an experience that you will enjoy. We had an oceanfront room that was beautiful, comfortable and quiet! It was always clean (thanks to the staff). The breakfast is ridiculous! A cold buffet that includes the normal delicious pastries as well as meat, cheeses and booze bar and you choose a delicious hot breakfast (with delicious local eggs), not to mention a choice of hot entree. The host makes sure you are warmly greeted and you get everything you need. The golf courses were amazing, although I must say difficult (I played all 3). I love there is a gorgeous (and not easy) 9 hole, the Kintyre (the 8th hole is the prettiest and most fun I have played) or the Ailsa. There is also a fun pitch and putt that is not easy either! Then after working up an appetite by walking to Bruce's Castle (good luck finding it) or walking the courses, you get to have a great meal in any of the restaurants. At JR Miller we had a beautiful tasting followed by meeting with the chefs (he had tons of suggestions for our other meals and we took him up on going into the kitchen and asking for them!). The Ailsa bar was so much fun that we ended up going there the other nights. Every time I ate something it was the best I ever had but the steaks are simply out of this world. Then off to the bar for some drinks and a time to talk to other guests, all of whom seem to be enjoying themselves as much as you are. If you have a rainy day and want to pop into Garvin, the valets can give you all the details... The best part was I never felt rushed or crowded, as I have at some other wonderful hotels. We dream of going back... Maybe next time with the use of the helipad. July 12, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Luxury & Service above expectations Arrived at Turnberry Resort at around 3pm on Thursday to a beautiful view and drive in to the hotel. Pulled up to the front and was greeted by the Concierge (in full Scottish formal dress), asked my name and escorted to the check-in area and given a seat. After a few moments I was welcomed to the front desk to check-in. As a Platinum Guest I used a Suite upgrade certificate that was honoured and was moved into the Price Suite, a very beautiful room (approx 950+ sq ft) located very close to reception. The concierge unloaded the luggage from my vehicle and also valet parked the car. When we arrived in the room our luggage was in the process of being delivered. The room is striking in it's decoration and ambience, from the lounge (with fireplace, dining table, sitting area, large TV & work-station) with it's breath-taking views of the ocean and golf course, to the bedroom with a King-size bed, large wardrobe & small sitting area in front of the second TV, to the sliding doors to the very large bathroom with it's own bath-tub, separate toilet & separate shower area. The suite was loaded with luxury amenities. In the lounge there was a selection of fresh loose-leaf teas with biscuits, a welcome platter of fresh fruits and a large assortment of alcohol in full bottles (for an extra charge). The bathroom had a wide selection of amenities including bath-salts, scrubs, toiletry kits, dental kits, plus the amazing feature of a built-in TV to the wall in front of the rather large claw-tub overlooking the ocean (with adjustable blinds of course). The large walk-in shower has a rain head and a second adjustable handheld head that both had great pressure. The bedroom featured a large king-size Sheraton sweet sleeper which was incredibly comfortable, though slightly harder than most Sheraton beds I've been in. During our stay we made many calls and inquiries to the Guest Service department and were always greeted with a warm & friendly member of staff who ensured we had all that we needed when we called or would promptly have someone return our call with an answer. The hotel does offer free wi-fi for all guest rooms, or you can pay 7.50GBP for a faster premium internet (free for Platinum members). During our stay the hotel was having some issues with the internet which their IT department was trying to fix which complicated matters. We did call and they were trying to get it fixed however we were limited with our internet connectivity & speed, though staying in a resort like Turnberry you don't expect to be on wifi all day. There was a large lounge in the front entrance with a wood fireplace which provided a great place to relax or just sit and read. We ordered room service twice and both times our order came before it's scheduled time. The food was priced very well in comparison to many other SPG properties, for example in comparison a burger at Turnberry is cheaper than a burger at the London Heathrow hotels. Gordon (our Room Service associate) who brought our food was absolutely outstanding. He came into the suite, setup the table with a tablecloth, cutlery, tea & biscuits, and made us feel as if we had ordered dinner at a luxury restaurant, not 3 burgers via room service. Our second experience with room service was just as great, however one of our food items was made incorrectly. With an apology and within 5 minutes Gordon came back with a freshly made meal according to what was ordered. He was very friendly each time and always called and even cleaned up our meal afterwards, he single handedly made our experience at Turnberry even more enjoyable through his customer service. Management, please give Gordon my high recommendations! We ate breakfast in 1906 which had great food and selection of fresh fruits, pastries etc. On my entrance into 1906 the head concierge (again in full Scottish formal dress) noticed me and greeted me by last name, remembering from the previous day, which went a long way to me feeling welcome. About a week before our arrival we received an email from the Concierge asking about any activities we were interested in. It did take a phone call to the hotel 5-days later to have them respond to my inquiry, but once they did, they sent all the pricing and details we asked for and gladly booked us in to a quad biking adventure. Unfortunately the entire hotel was rented out for a private function on our day of check-out otherwise we would of stayed at least 3 or 4 days and tried to make use of more of the wide-range of activities and spa/pool, however the front desk was able to still accommodate our late check-out request until 2pm. Turnberry was a fantastic resort with excellent staff, great recognition of status and a very welcoming environment. I would highly recommend them and would say that it was one of the best stays I have had with SPG in my over 150 nights with them these past 3 years. The suite upgrade we received was well worth it, and the price we paid was very reasonable. I will definitely be returning. November 9, 2012
