Rated 5 out of 5 by First class hotel Very welcoming hotel with beautiful views, luxurious bedrooms, and a vast array of facilities within the hotel. Would highly recommend. Friendly staff . March 9, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by The Perfect Break I have just returned from Turnberry Hotel and found the whole experience to be therapeutic. The hotel has a restful ambience to it with lots of seating areas to lounge in whilst enjoying beautiful views of Ailsa Craig and the sea. The staff were extremely friendly and most helpful and the 1906 restaurant first class. The bedrooms are tastefully furnished and are very comfortable. All in all a great experience and one which warrants a return stay. January 28, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Terrific resort except for Spa building room The view is spectacular, the restaurants and bars are very nice, the golf courses are amazing and the spa/exercise room facilities are great. But for more than $600/night we were put in a Spa building room with tired fixtures, peeling paint, a broken curtain rod and dated furnishings. To be a real 5-star resort, the rooms have to be first class, and our room had a LONG way to go to get to first class. The room didn't justify the hefty pricetag. September 24, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Weekend golf Turnberry hotel and golf facilities are 5 star but my reasons for marking down slightly were for the small touches that normally one would expect from such an establishment. As an example on arrival we decided to have a light bite before playing the Ailsa course. We ordered 2 lemon chicken wraps and a toasted sandwich and that's what we got but they were pretty underwhelming when you consider the wraps were £11 each. I then arranged for my car to be washed for £20 , I needed to collect my glasses and I was horrified to see mud in the foot wells and a very shabby clean of the car itself. The room was large and spacious but my tea bags were not replaced in fact nor was water or shampoo and shower gel in the bathroom. It's little things but they are the sort of things you hope would not occur. All said we had fun and I would return in the future April 30, 2013

Rated 4 out of 5 by beautiful views amazing place. went for the golf and had 3 great round on both courses. highly recommended. weather was good too which helped. Hotel was fantastic, food a bit nouveau for me, very tasty, but i am a big lad who likes his portions. Only down side was our booking kept disappearing on computer, reservation, dinner, golf. got a bit tiresome having to go through booking again. did have confirmation e-mail with everything correct. WELL WORTH A VISIT March 27, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by birthday treat thoroughly enjoyed our stay to celebrate a special birhday - staff service, comfort, relaxed atmosphere - food at dinner very good and breakfast superb ! even the dreadful waether didnt spoil our enjoyment. Hope to return soon! February 27, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wow! From check in to check out, I was wow'ed at every turn. The facilities are beautiful, the staff professional, and the food unforgettable. The breakfast was especially memorable with the quality offerings. There was a new restaurant staff member undergoing OJT nearby and listening in on the informal training session confirmed my feelings of Turnberry Resort --absolutely fantastic! I definitely hope to return to your fine establishment. August 30, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautiful, friendly, & luxurious My family had a wonderful time. There was something for everyone. My Girls (ages 16 & 17) were welcomed by the entire staff. Tommy was the first to greet us at the door and he was so much fun. My parents enjoyed the tour of the coast and my husband found his way around the challenging but beautiful golf course. I was completely satisfied with the relaxing atmosphere and beautiful countryside. Our room - The Watson Suite- was outstanding. June 7, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Outstanding Hotel and place for a wedding This hotel is by far the best we have stayed in - from the very warm welcome at reception to the cleanliness of the rooms, we could not fault this hotel. We had the pleasure of staying for a friends wedding, the actual day was impressive, food outstanding - I would recommend this to anyone. The only downside is that you have to go home! Thanks to all the wonderful staff , esp Jim who could not do enough to help us. Definately returning! July 24, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by changes not all for the good Since my last visit, nearly 6 years previously, Turnberry has undergone a major refurbishment. Some of the work I liked and some disappointed. Played the ailsa which was as good as ever. The clubhouse good. In the hotel the room had a more modern feel. does the hotel require modern or would traditional suit better. Depends on the guests it wishes to attract? Old thinks that were missed, the small and intimate cocktail bar for pre-dinner drinks. The only available bar too big to give the same feeling of intimacy. There was a feel as well that things did not run quite as smoothly. Needing to ask to order dinner while in the bar to go through only whne the table was ready something that previosly was just done. However the above are quibbles to the overall experience that was good bordering on excellence and still home to my favourite golf course. October 23, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great sophistication/ lacking practicalities Wardrobe space confined. There was only 1 mirror and it was out of reach of any electric point causing us to ask for a portable mirror to dry hair. TV remote control required engineer to repair it. Nuisance telephone advertisements featured as "messages". February 20, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Fabulous views and service in dining room Beautifully situated and with fab weather great views from spa and dining rooms. Food excellent as was service. Pool good but other facilities in spa rather small. Information on spa and gym very limited - we couldn't find the steam rooms. Could do with more information on the website too. One of rooms with extra bed very tight. High charge for packet of decongestants was a bit off and watch the dust behind the television area. February 27, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by We felt like V.I.P's At our son's wedding - 2 nights stay - all excellent except for on the morning of the wedding we were told that the hairdresser had been taken unwell the day before. The staff at the SPA did not appreciate my wife was the mother of the groom as those details had not been entered on the computer when the appointment was made. A BIG PANIC but thankfully all worked out in the end. Everything else went well including the wedding! May 31, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fabulous Family break My husband and I and 2 children stayed in one of the apartments at Turnberry and had a fantastic break. The apartments are very spacious, beautifully appointed and the kids loved the TV in their room (!). The staff were unfailing polite, helpful and friendly. We were blessed by beautiful weather enhancing the glorious vies and location. I cannot praise this enough. Thank you Turnberry for a fantastic week...we will be back. April 10, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Beautiful Hotel lovely staff BUT We had an enjoyable stay at your Hotel we were greeted in a most welcoming manner and the concierge had impeccable manners. We informed the concierge , the 1906 staff, our waitress that one of our party was ceoliac and had a dairy intolerance, we thought this would not be a problem when it came to our evening meal, unfortunately, it was. Of all the people to get it wrong the chef did not listen to the request and I am not so sure that your staff are aware that many foods and sauces contain wheat and gluten that there should be a separate section of the kitchen set aside so that there is no contamination from other foods or utensils. Poor show, although all of the staff were so pleasant and apologetic it did not compensate for our disappointment . Another meal was made for us but then the doubt is always there, in this caliber of Hotel this should not happen. The spa is wonderful as were all off the staff there. We had a delux room and could not fault it. January 28, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Welcome to Turnberry This hotel is in a beautiful setting which complements the architecture and ambience. The staff were all very welcoming and helpful particularly to my 22 month granddaughter. The children's play room was a delight for any child. We had a very enjoyable stay and would not hesitate to recommend it to friends and family. February 1, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Weaknesses First we were given a room looking out over roofs, I asked for a change and then moved to only 50% roof view but better. I was not told that I had paid for b&b therefore did not get breakfast. Instead we paid for breakfast at the golf clubhouse. Then you do not provide free wifi....every other hotel on our two week visit through Scotland and England has had free wifi. Your hotel is beautiful and the pool and fitness center were great but I expected more from you! The golf was great and my caddy Jamie was great! By the way, I left a golf jacket on the chair in the golf grill...realized I had left it when I reached St. Andrews.....immediately sent you an email regarding the jacket and never heard from anyone. Does anyone read the emails? It was a pink jacket with "circling raven" on the sleeve. It is probably in someone else's home by now. We left there on October 7th. October 17, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Turnberry I have been going to Turnberry Hotel since Oct 1961(how lucky am I) and have gone many times. It is simply heaven on earth. The food is now fabulous and the view unsurpassable when the sun shines.Turnberry also has a micro climate.James Miller ,the architect, had amazing prescience, as his masterpiece, the FIRST purpose built golf resort in the world is still a wonder.Ask Tom Watson. He is inspired by its magnificence. Rated 5 out of 5 by The Lodges This has been our third stay this year. Twice in self catering and once in the hotel. Although the two offer different types of holiday, both are excellent and of very high quality. Again, the staff are your prime resource. Friendly, efficient but welcoming and professional. We are looking forward to coming back again next February and I couldn't recommend highly enough to friends and colleagues. November 27, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by A genuine mixed bag Just back from Turnberry...The food, staff and setting were excellent! 5 * easily shame about the wind! Unfortunately the building and room were freezing and most certainly were not comfortable to relax in. Heating seemed to be focused in certain areas despite being reminded by all that the hotel was full. The walk to the pool required a coat to be worn and when you checked the heating it was never on. The portable heater outside the spa reception told the story. Also, we might not have paid for the best of the rooms but we have had far better for less elsewhere. I genuinely hoped that this would be a visit to remember and in certain aspects it was but in others it was for the wrong reasons. I have played golf here several times and would plan to come back again but would I take up an overnight package again? Well...the jury is out and I would have to think about that. March 24, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Self catering Apartments I've just returned from a 3 night stay in the North Berwick upstairs apartment, and unfortunately was greatly underwhelmed. The apartments which are available to book on your website, which is listed as 5 star and part of the Luxury collection are far from luxury. The carpets are incredibly badly stained and threadbaren. I would expect and have experienced hugely better facilities for 5 star self catering. February 26, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Beautiful traditional hotel with room for improvement Hotel is impressive with stunning views. Rooms are comfortable and clean but our room bathroom window had large gap round the frame giving rise to cold air blowing into bathroom and making it intolerably cold. We requested a move, which we got, after 30 minutes of waiting in reception, but our new room was below what I can only imagine as the laundry as machines were on most of the night with loud hum and staff walking across floor late at night/early morning so not much sleep. First room had lovely view second room ...no view! Lighting in bedroom terrible..only 1 side lamp so definitely could not apply makeup in bedroom {couldn't see} so had to juggle bathroom mirror with my fiance! Visited lounge for a sandwich and cup of tea with glass of prosecco to be told, after service, if we wanted another drink we had to move to bar as lounge closing at 5pm! Needless to say we didn't ask for a second drink...didn't want the inconvenience of moving our plates with still uneaten sandwiches and tea cups through to the bar! Dinner in the evening was faultless but perhaps some healthier food choices should be considered for those who want a lighter, less rich option! Spa was fantastic and men had great day on the golf course...so some redemption Turnberry! March 5, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Customer service From the minute we pulled up to the front of the hotel, the entire staff could have not been more friendly or helpful. It was immediate apparent that the Scots understand customer service. While the hotel was top-notch in it's appearance and facilities (and the golf not too bad either), it is the people that are it's best attributes. Without reservation, I would recommend The Turnberry resort to anyone. August 13, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Spectacular views from the hotel The hotel is very luxurious and decor very contemporary but beautiful. The staff are very courteous and treated us with the utmost respect. Nothing was a problem to them. I have travelled worldwide with my work but have never stayed in such a fabulous hotel. Thankfully this trip was for pleasure. The food was also exceptional. We will definitely return to the resort...hopefully sooner rather than later. March 27, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Noisy room Room had loud high-pitched whine coming from heating/ventilation system. Had to wait for technical team so did not have time to swim before spa treatment as I had planned. Were offered choice of 2 other rooms. The one we chose was very nice though not as much of a sea view as the first one. Also, I had indicated a non-dairy diet on my booking but no-one made any mention of it or offered alternatives December 19, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Break We had a lovely short break and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Room comfort was superb, Valentine's dinner delightful, Staff exceptionally friendly and professional. A real pearl of a hotel. February 16, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by One of the best !!! I recently had a short stay at this hotel with my 6 yr old son....The hotel itself is magnificent with amazing staff and facilities...The biggest thing for me was how child friendly this hotel can be, whilst catering for a lot of different people and taste's my son was made to feel extremely welcome as was i. This hotel is a must for anyone staying even close to the Ayrshire coast... Many Thanks April 5, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 breathtaking scenery should not be missed at this hotel service excellent, staff courteous & welcoming, food lovely. Disappointed in the lack of opulence in hotel, downstairs feels lovely but felt it quite cold & clinical the further up you went. No pictures on the wall or colour to give that overall warmth feel and granduer that a hotel like TURNBERRY should have. Lacking on the finishing touches. But did not take away from a lovely weekend. Rated 5 out of 5 by Magnificent Hotel - a great experience We stayed 1 night and really enjoyed it. The hotel is in beautiful condition for its age (built in 1906), but modernised in keeping with original features. Plus, it has a superb elevated situation looking out over the Firth of Clyde to Ailsa Craig and the Island of Aran. Dinner was great, breakfast was a banquet and the staff were so helpful (and so plentiful!). Would go back tomorrow. March 10, 2013
