We were planning on a wonderful extended weekend at Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort and Spa in Palm desert. A get away from the hustle and bustle for a couple of days with our young children. We recently made plans for our first family vacation to Princeville Westin in Kauai and wanted to experience all Starwoods had to offer. We were aware of the great reputation of Starwood and its participating hotels. My children were looking forward to the famous water slide we had heard so much about.
Upon our arrival in Palm Desert, on Friday evening, October 31, after speaking with the attendant at the front desk and telling him I was traveling with two young children, I requested a room near one of the pools on the grounds. He told me I was in luck and put me two doors down from one of the many pools.
Waking the next morning, we were off to the pool only to find out that we were put next to the adult pool. Yes, not suitable for my two young children as the were not allowed entrance. We were able to cut across the parking lot (with children in tow) and thorough the lobby to another pool. Besides the inconvenience we did like this pool because it was much bigger and had a slide..... Unfortunately, the slide was closed for maintenance. Just our luck!! We spent two days enjoying the pool and keeping our two young children busy. They would have loved to use the slide. We chose this property because, as per the website, family activities and kid friendly. While researching the property on our own to find things to do, we found a park on the map. Of course it was located at the far end of the property, definitely not in walking distance for my 3 and 4 years old. We called the front desk to ask about the park and they were happy to send a attendant with a cart to pick us up. After being told an attendant would be there to pick us up in 30-40, we waited an additional 15 minutes before calling again. This time we were told that they had no record of any one calling. We again requested a ride to the park and no one showed. We had to track down an attendant driving a cart on the grounds. Very disappointing. Upon arrival at the park, the gate was locked. We were very thankful that we had called for a ride and did not attempt to walk that long distance on our own as we would not have been able to use the park. But how disappointing. The family friendly park was made for infants. Not even appropriate for my youngsters. To top the weekend off, we decided to use our extended check out on Sunday and take a stroll around the grounds. We were appalled to find another pool..... With a working pool slide. While we were at the other pool for two days, with my children drooling and staring at the slide (under maintenance) none of the staff approached us to inform us of another pool with a working slide.
The reason for my email today is simple. The Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort and Spa did not live up to our expectations as a prime Starwoods property. We were disappointed with the staff and the communication with us as guests.
We wanted to stay at a Westin and experience the top of the line quality we were expecting before our trip to Kauai. We are now second guessing our decision to travel to Princeville. We are hoping that Princeville does not disappoint in the way Mission Hills has.
I would like a phone call from one of your representatives to ensure me that this experience will not repeat itself as my family travels to Kauai in July.

I chose to stay at the Westin Mission Hills when welcoming my son home from Afghanistan. We spent a few days reconnecting in Rancho Mirage. I didn't expect the place we stayed to have such an impact on our time. The grounds and amenities are truly first class and offered plenty options without leaving the grounds. Yet it was the staff who made the difference, they are the best I have experienced. From the front desk staff who handled special requests, to the kind and attentive waitress at the breakfast cafe, to the accommodating housekeeping staff we encountered, we were pampered. I will definitely return to the Westin Mission Hills Resort.

Our family of 4 enjoyed a fantastic time at the Westin Mission Hills Villas.
Arriving from cold Calgary Alberta, we were looking forward to our getaway.
The Villas are immaculate and well maintained and the property is beautiful with wonderful views and paths. It is all you would expect from the Westin brand but with more...
What really takes this property to a higher level is the staff. At this property they are truly the HEART OF THE HOTEL.
Alex and the front desk team are hospitable and approachable and make a genuine effort to provide best in class service. I was so impressed with the "CAN DO" attitude. Thank you to Alex and the team for your attention to detail : Crystal, Christina, Maria and Jacob.
The pool is amazing with the best water slide - not just for kids, but all ages. It is a blast. A special thank you to Steven and Ricardo.
Our family left the Westin Villas refreshed and relaxed with many fond memories. We are excited to return next year!

Was greeted at the front desk by Jacob who was very friendly, attentive and used my name. He noted that I was an SPG member and gave me an upgrade which was much appreciated. The following morning upon check out, I was again greeted by name by Jacob! I was impressed that he remembered my name. Great customer service! The property itself is beautifully landscaped and well kept. Great walking path alongside the golf course and the surrounding scenery was breathtaking.

Large Villa accommodations. Nice furnishings. Excellent property and Pools. Very good restaurants...especially Gluten Free menus.

This was my 3rd or 4th stay at these villas. i had alot if troubel this trip.
1. no hot water in my shower. i called and they said someone fixed it. i checked it later and it still did not work. i should have reported it again but i did not.
2. i was sleeping at the villa pool and the waitstaff kicked by chair to wake me up so he could ask me to pay the bill. i was not happy.
3. when checking out i called the front desk and asked for a person to help me carry the bags to car. i was assured they have this service. i called twice and they promised me someone was coming, no one came. i waited 30 minutes
4. i hat that you chareg $15 for parking and i can never get a spot near my room. this combined with the lack of bell service makes it hard to come and go. either dont charge for parking or have assigned spots near each villa.
i had a nice vacation despite the villas and the westin service.

this has to be one of the best places i've stayed in, in a LONG time! When we checked in our room it wasn't ready but the front desk clerk, was very polite and told us we had full access to the pool and surrounding. Our kids had a blast on the water slide.
** one thing that caught my attention was the housekeeping crew was SOOOOO NICE!!!! i give them props!!! every single housekeeping we ran into acknowledged us with good morning etc. SOOO NICE!!

My recent stay was wonderful! I had a not so great experience back in July and wrote a disappointed review. I was immediately contacted by the resort's director of operations who wanted to hear more about my experience and try to make amends. He was sympathetic, sincere, and so very friendly. He invited me back and set me up in an upgraded villa. When I arrived, there was a lovely note and basket of goodies waiting for me. The villa was beautiful, comfortable and everything I could have hoped for. His service and follow-through was much appreciated and definitely unexpected. One would think that such a large company wouldn't respond or care about a little review by one person. But they proved me wrong and turned me into a loyal customer! I would recommend this place to anyone and plan to turn this location into my go-to weekend getaway destination.
