Rated 4 out of 5 by Location, amenities so so. Staff great! Pros: Staff, at all levels, especially the valet guys and pool bar staff were great. Always in a good mood, always eager to assist in any way shape or form. Beds, consistently, an SPG room with great beds and pillows. Private Balcony, so as long as it does not face the poolside. Kona Trolley, good, easy way to get in and around Kona without having to take your rental car. Cons: SPG Gold - amenity is not the resort charge ($32 a night) but free valet of $7/night. Seems too much on the low end compared to other stays at SPGs (e.g., free internet). No direct beach access. Not end of the world in Kona as you generally need rental car to get to any of the good beaches. No golf close by. Immediate course is closed to renovation - was not aware until we got there. Kids. As there is no direct beach access, you only option to lounge in the sun is by the pool. The entire pool however, is catered to kids - i.e., there is no section which generally would preclude kids to be in/around. I have no problem with kids playing in a pool - but it is nice to have a quieter area than the rest. This pool does not have that. Its broken out in three sections. Sandy beach area for wading small children. A large water slide with volleyball net and a small lagoon in courtyard of hotel. Food. Rays at the Bay serves excellent dishes. Just not that many of them. As a vegetarian, my only choice of entree is fried tofu skins. This is the only restaurant in the hotel. Thus, unless I drove to other place, this is the dinner. It would be nice to see their menu expand considering their location and limited items. July 29, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice hotel with beautiful views. We were not given the room we booked but they quickly rectified it. They gave us a room with great ocean views. The hotel is a great place if you have a family, but not if your looking to relax by the pool for a good time. Rays on the bay is a very good restaurant with a great area to see the waves crashing up against the cliffs, but a not so good experience with the pool food during the day. The coffee shop is fantastic and servers are great. Internet (wifi) is horrible all around the hotel. At the golf course near by there is a great place to eat breakfast. The glass barrier between the pool and the ocean was dirty you couldnt see the ocean while at the pool. There is no beach within walking distance that is why you are at the pool with kids all around screaming. The openness of the hotel is lovely and Very refreshing. In the morning the doors closed so hard and loud that it woke you up like an alarm clock and the walls were thin so you could hear people hitting the walls in the room next to you. The glass doors were hard to open and shut so it made it hard if you wanted to enjoy the outside breeze. People were nice and said hi when passing and room service people were nice and welcoming. Rated 4 out of 5 by Aloha Spirit Quiet Hotel given the open air design. Rooms larger than expected. All facilities were clean an neat. Staff was friendly and engaging. Especially liked the enthusiasm of the young man who gave the get aquainted with island of Hawai'i talk and the gentleman who lead the Historic walk of the grounds tour. Both were very informative. Activites during the day were nice and would have like to have had the time to attend more. Did attend the yoga which could have been earlier. Seeing the Manta Rays at night was nice but they need additional lights to illuminate a little more of the bay. The pool was nice/quiet and had fun using the slide. Didn't use the Spa. Our lani was big and we enjoyed relaxing on it. They just need to weed the flower box. It overlooked the side of RAYS but we never heard any noise from there at night. There was a wedding on the lawn but the music shut off around 10 pm. The one thing that was disturbing was the birds which fly into and around the dining room. They land on buffet and tables and eat food. It was cute at first, and then put us off eating at the restaurant when we saw them walking and sitting on the bufet food. We had a really nice stay and I would book here again. September 27, 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Can' go wrong with Keauhoa Bay Sheraton Great location for all island activities on the Big Island in the Kailua-Kona area. Hotel is right on the coast with excellent views & sunsets. Recently remodeled restaurants (from my past visit) right on the bay which are very modern and have lost the "grade school cafeteria" atmosphere (kudos to the Sheraton team that tackled THAT project). Actually saw 3 manta rays at the "Rays on the Bay" just off the coast (albeit still can't beat the manta night SCUBA dive!). Rooms were excellent (upgraded to 7th floor suite & second room for family on 7th floor down the hallway due to Starwood status) with comfortable bed & furniture in rooms. Staff were friendly & helpful. Big Island has advantages of active volcanoes (on the other side of the island..not in the hotel) which at about 90 miles away so a good day-trip, also good day-trip to the Kohala area for zip-lining & ATV tours, best Hawaiian coral for SCUBA diving (at least compared to Maui & Kauai), best night manta ray dive on the planet (which is also on the Kona coast), and a "newer" feel than the other Hawaiian islands due to all the "recent" lava tracts from the past 200 or so years. Have enjoyed my stays and already planning to return next year. November 18, 2012

Rated 4 out of 5 by Excellent Hotel My husband and I stayed at the Sheraton Kona for our honeymoon. We were greeted by friendly people and given a few gifts for our recent marriage. The room we stayed in was very well kept up and decorated in a modern style, which I like. The king size bed was amazingly comfortable and we slept soundly each night. Since we were on our honeymoon, we decided to splurge for an oceanview room. It was the best decision we made because the view was breathtaking. The hotel is right on the water and we woke up every morning and looked at the beautiful blue water. We were also close to the pool and slide, which wasn't noisy at all, and we enjoyed watching people go down the slide or swim in the pool. We did end up having a problem with housekeeping one day, and they never showed up to clean the room. We had to call for fresh towels and water and finally received that. We told the front desk about our issue at checkout and they gave us something in return. Out of an entire week there, missing one day of housekeeping wasn't a big deal to us. The staff was friendly and everyone said aloha as you walked by. The only issue I have with the hotel is the elevator. We were on the fourth floor and the elevator was sooooo slow. It doesn't help that there is no air-conditioning in the elevator because it got really hot as well. By the time you got out, you would be sweating up a storm. In a location that has high humidity, I would say they should update their elevators a little bit. Overall we had a great experience and we have talked about going back as soon as we can!
