Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome stay at Marques de Riscal The hotel is beautiful on the outside- and inside. Amazing winemaker massage and scrub with cabernet grapes. Great, relaxing stay July 3, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best experience ever in any hotel anywhere From the moment we arrived and were informed that we had been upgraded to a Suite (Room 1), overlooking the village of Elciego, to lunch on the patio, after a late (2pm) checkout, our 2 night stay was 'perfect'. The room was exceptional with a view looking straight at the old cathedral. Breakfast each morning, the 2 lunches we enjoyed and dinner in Bistro 1860 the first night and the degustation dinner in the restaurant on the second night, were all superb. The staff were extremely pleasant and most attentive. The spa facilities, including the pool were modern and relaxing and the attendant / manageress was exceptional. I highly recommend the winery tour, as the history of Marques de Riscal and the explanation of the wine making methods was excellent. The hotel is beautifully appointed and of course the design is stunning. A 'must' place to stay if you visit the Rioja region. June 29, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Amazing Architecture We had a great stay at Marques de Riscal. The architecture is really amazing and worth seeing, especially after a day in Bilbao. Staff was very friendly and helpful, especially the doorman from Cambodia. The tour of the winery is worthwhile. The hotel is a great base for touring the Rioja region. Definitely recommend a night or two in this hotel after visiting San Sebastian or Bilbao. June 27, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by A little fairytale... We arrived late at night to what appeared to be a discretely lit, anachronistic castle with, in lieu of stone walls and towers, a fantastic architecture coloured with bold, winery-inspired palette. This luxury collection hotel is unique and unforgettable, with a glass bridge connecting the two wings of the structure allowing you to breeze under Gehry's titanium ribbons. The location was lovely, with the small, characteristic town of Elciego within walking distance of the hotel and a beautiful view over the town church and vineyards from the breakfast area. Impeccable room with vineyard view and complimentary valrhona chocolate, the welcome gift as a platinum member was a locally produced olive oil we continued to enjoy at home. We visited the Guggenheim in Bilbao and, while imposing and impressive, our stay in Elciego provided us with a much more intimate perception of Gehry's work, almost as if we had been two guests in his living room, where he held his sketchbook and told us about the enchanted Basque land his imagination was about to conquer. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great stay! My wife and I spent two nights at this hotel in early December and everything was perfect. The rooms are large and comfortable; breakfast is delicious and with high quality produce, the bistro serves excellent food and the wine bar is the perfect place for a quick bite. The spa itself is not impressive but the treatments are quite original. I took a "skull massage" and it was very enjoyable. The Marques de Riscal winery is worth a visit (free with your stay) as it is Ysios in the nearby town of Laguardia. Above all I would highlight the service. Everybody is nice, willing to help but respectful with your privacy. The hotel has the perfect size for a luxury retreat: not too big so you don't feel anonymous, not too small so you can still go unnoticed! December 21, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic hotel My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in May and had one of the best experiences ever!! The Marques de Riscal is gorgeous and amazing. The service was first rate starting with check in. Pedro the front desk manager was there to greet us and made us feel special from "hello". Our beautiful room over looked the vineyard and couldn't have been more perfect. We loved the 11 different choices from the "pillow menu". We would love to return here one day, the small towns and wineries are awesome. The winery at the hotel has a great tour and tasting and was a highlight. May 19, 2014

Rated 4 out of 5 by Would be 5 stars but the Michelin Star was missing We have been hoping to visit this property for years. The expectations were met in every way. The greeting , the staff , the room , all were impeccable. The wine and the winery tour were amazing. The restaurant which was the most anticipated part of the visit was a big let down. The Michelin people should revisit this property. Their star has gone missing. The food was sub par. Ordered the lamb and returned it. Salty , cold and completely unappetizing. The service was amateur . Too bad because otherwise it was a dream. May 9, 2014
