This hotel is about was about 3 miles from the center of Evors and is a converted convent. The staff is very good and attentive and the room was beautiful, but what we loved the most was the tour and the restaurant. The 5 pm tour gave us a feel for the history of the hotel and ended in a wine tasting. The restaurant which was located in the old wine cellar had a great menu and the Alentejo and Mediteranean menu were subtly flavored so the freshness of the food was apparent. Also beautiful presentation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Gomes52 This hotel was absolutely amazing!
My husband and I spent two nights in this magnificient hotel during our road trip to Evora and Monsaraz. It was absolutely amazing. The service was excellent and the hotel's history and setting are amazing. There are no words to describe this magnificent property. We felt like we were taking a step back in time, but with modern comforts. We wished we had planned more time to stay to be able to use all the facilities. Will definitely plan a longer stay again on our next trip.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Evi12 great location and staff, food and pool average
We loved the location and the convent's old building. Staff was very helpful. We were rather dissappointed with the food. Though nicely presented, we were not convinced with the taste. Combination of flavours that didn't harmonize. We had wished less overcreativity and more simple and straightforward food with excellent quality. The spa's atmosphere and treatment were very nice. Pool area and service not up to standards of a luxury hotel. Once we had to wait 40 minutes to get a simple salad and the other time we didn't even get the ordered food. Nevertheless we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel, it's a quiet, relaxing spot, the convent's setting is extraordinary and there are plenty of interesting things to visit around.

My wife and I spent a night here during a road trip through southern Portugal. It was absolutely amazing. The service was excellent and the hotel's history and setting are amazing. We felt like we were taking a step back in time, but with modern comforts. We wished we had planned more time to stay. Easy to find and not far from all of the amazing places to visit in Evora. It's just outside the bustle of the city in a beautiful rural setting. Will definitely stay again on our next trip.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SVC86 Fantastic Hotel
The Convento do Espinheiro Hotel and Spa is by far the best Starwood hotel I have stayed. Using SPG points I reserved a weekend retreat, as I was staying in Lisbon on a business trip for two weeks. The hotel not only provided me with a nice room, they upgraded me to the largest suite at the hotel. It was an amazing room suite with a terrace overlooking the olive trees, swimming pool and the lovely town on Evora in the distance. The hotel provided me with complimentary port as well. Dining at Divina restaurant was superb. Excellent wine selection. After dinner, a quartet played in the cloister area until 1am. They were very good and made for a lovely evening.
Another fine touch is the daily monestary tour at 5pm and wine tasting at 6pm.
I can not find anything negative to say about the Convento do Espinsheiro Hotel. I can't wait to return to this fantastic hotel and historic town of Evora.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Bado71 Best Starwood Property in the World
(To enhance the credibility of this review, please allow a prelude regarding my Starwood experience.) I am a multi-year Platinum member, having been to virtually every Westin and W Hotel in the USA, and several Starwood properties abroad--totaling around 225 different locations. My top Starwood stays include the St. Regis Princeville Resort in Kauai, St. Regis in Rome, Le Meridien in Phuket, St. Regis in Aspen, St. Regis in Monarch Beach, Parker Palm Springs and the incomparable Hotel Alfonso XIII in Seville.
Convento do Espinheiro not only tops all of these Starwood properties, but is easily the best place I've ever stayed (tied with Dromoland Castle in Ireland).
Convento do Espinheiro--in the shadow of medieval Evora, a walled city and Unesco World Heritage site--was actually a monastery for 400 years and comes with its own historic church, idyllic surroundings, sweeping views, cistern-turned-wine-room, wine-cellar-turned-restaurant, clanging sheep bells in the distance, several secret nooks and quirky stairways, and an incredible staff. The general manager, Maria, was charming and helpful; the sommelier Christiano was a real pro; and everyone from the front desk to the restaurant was amazingly attentive. Don't miss the 1,100-year-old olive tree, the sprawling grounds or nightly tour which includes wine tasting.
Convento do Espinheiro should be a tourist destination in its own right. Indeed, the property's history is the subject of a well-researched book. It is unlike any Starwood hotel in that it achieves more than just a place of rest and leisure--the resort is truly transportive. I cannot give the Convento a stronger recommendation. Stop reading this and book your reservation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by 40places Lovely Experience
This historic convent has been beautifully redone to accommodate wither you prefer the original parts of the building, or ultra contemporary style. We preferred the historic suite, which was regal in its feel. The food here is outstanding. Nothing short of one of finest dining experience we have had travelling Europe for years. We spent Christmas-New Years here and were made to feel part of a larger family. Lovely countryside, many ruins, castles and peaceful walks.l

Rated 5 out of 5 by peter13 Historic venue with great food
Lovely hotel with great service from the moment you arrive. Out of town quiet location yet convenient for Evora and the motorway so only 90mins from Lisbon airport. Excellent, but pricey dinner menu, with attentive staff. Great breakfasts. Good facilities but imagine pool and small fitness centre could get crowded in the height of the season. No problem though when we went in November. Stayed in one of the old rooms which was large with a well-equipped big bathroom.
