Rated 3 out of 5 by Preferred Guests are not Preferred here Every bell man, room service employee and maid had impeccable manners, good English and eager service. However, every woman we encountered at the front desk seemed to have a cold attitude. "I am a preferred guest" was met with "You have to just call customer service, I don't know anything about that". We asked one to send ice and heard, "Go to your room and dial "0". I asked a question about the spa special and was interrupted mid sentence with "You will just have to ask the spa about that, it is downstairs." Also, the concierge would only provide sightseeing suggestions that were guided tours - very cookie cutter. November 30, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by Beautiful location, POOR SERVICE! It was unfortunate that the poor servicve & staff responsiveness overshadowed the beauty of this resort. With the exception of one female receptionist who was very helpful, the rest seemed not to care. As a Platinum SPG member, we received a room upgrade which was much appreciated. It was a beautiful suite overlooking the ocean. Unfortunately this is where the good feeling ended. The Executive Lounge where breakfast, coffee/tea during the day & evening drinks & snacks were served was always unstaffed. This meant that the lounge was for most part of the day unclean and never restocked. We had to call reception every day for fresh milk, coffee capsules, clean cups or glasses and water. The first 2 days breakfast was only bread & pasteries, with cold meats, cheese & cereal only coming out on day 3. The goes for the evening drinks & snacks - only after again calling for coffee did they come to set up with drinks and snacks on day 3 - before there was no set-up done. When I asked for a wifi router, I was informed that the IT department was closed on Sundays. Monday morning they were in a meeting so only got the router in the afternoon. It really isn't a pleasure calling several times for the same thing - calls were met with "I will check and call you back" which then did not happen for several hours & we had to call back again. Later we just gave up! Bathroom ameneties (shampoo & shower gel) were not replenished once during our stay. Eventually we just used whatever we brought with us....calling would just add to our frustration. On check-in I also requested a site tour & especially to see one of the Pool Bungalows as the pictures on the website looked so beautiful & I was considering this for a summer vacation for 2012. This request was ignored & we ended up just walking past the bungalows on our final day. I also found it quite strange that there was no personal contact from the resort General Manager. As a Platinum SPG member I always receice at least a welcome note and in most cases a personal call, even at lower category hotels within the group. For a category 6 I would would expect such personal service. There are many beautiful resports within the Starwood group, but it is the level of service and personal touch which makes it special & will make you return. Unfortunately Arion failed here totally. In conclusion I would like to mention that I never write to complain as I don't feel it justifies the energy spent on it. I would just via word-of-mouth express my experience to friends & co-workers and not return. I'm a proud supporter of the Starwood group & the SPG program & therefore I decided to bring my experience to your attention so that the needed actions can be taken to rectify the issues so that this resort can deliver the experience that its guests are looking for. Rated 2 out of 5 by 3 star hotel standard with 5 star prices!! Lobby: Average reception area, with poor design. The sitting area of the lobby lounge is more presentable. Check in only in reception not executive lounge. Not escorted to the room as other luxury collection hotels. There are only 2 receptionist and not enough to cater for the demand at times. Plus bad sewage smell in the reception area. Guest room: spacious with modern contemporary design. Nice balcony area sea view. However the suite is below the standard of suites of The Luxury Collection. Bathroom: modern, and spacious with steam room in shower. Executive lounge: very poor with very limited variety of food and drinks, and is not serviced. The sea view balcony area looks nice but the area is dirty and not cleaned. Room service: good service but during the day of the strike, there were employees however our room was not cleaned which I believe is not proper, especially that we are paying for a service. Breakfast: good variety of food Concierge: never saw the person and was actually off on Monday which is presumably a working day. Reception team have a limited background to offer concierge services which is expected anyway as its not their job. Plus the map shared is very poor and not clear compared to the ones of other hotels. Location: Beach property, 40 minutes from central athens. only 2 free shuttles to city center at 9am and 4pm which is very limited and believe not acceptable. Facilities: standard Other: Internet was charged for 3 days although was not informed of any charge when I have requested the wifi access point. No authority at front line to waive such a charge, and had to escalate a number of times although its a wrong business principle in offering something without disclosing charges! October 26, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by One of my favorite SPG-hotels I have visited Arion at least once a year during the last 5-6 years - and will continue to come back. And this is why: Classic and elegant rooms with one of the best views you can imagine. But make sure to get a room facing the pool area. It is a great view any time of the day, but I especially enjoy the evenings when you see lights and the people visiting the Nobu restaurant. The top floor suites also offers marina views, but I find the pool view so much nicer. The service has improved during the last couple of years and I find the front desk staff helpful. Rated 4 out of 5 by Great location - lack of service After more than 250 nights at different Starwood properties I still think this is the most beautiful location I have ever experienced. The hotel is just by the water with great access to the ocean, beaches etc. The service is strange. No one really talks to you. I have stayed here several times and during our last visit my 8 year old kid rushed into one of the big window doors and almost past out. The duty manager came and told me he had to write a report, but no one asked how my son was doing. But if you want to experience great service there is only a short walk to the Nobu Restaurant. Rated 4 out of 5 by Wonderful option in the outskirts of Athens Pros: - wonderful starwood platinum upgrade policy. Loved the suite AND the fact that the upgrade was given without having to ask at check-in. - nice and quiet rooms, really liked that the door shut themselves quietly. Hate those slamming doors that wake all guests in nearby rooms. - what a great idea having a separate elevator on the top floor going directly down to the spa/fitness center on the ground floor. - free self parking. - magnificent sea views from almost all of the rooms. Cons - selection at breakfast was poor and the same every day (stayed fire nights). The quality was also quite low, e.g. the cofee and juice selection was awful, And why not offer nespresso coffee at breakfast when there is a nespresso machine in the lounge? - one, horrible CD playing again and again at breakfast. Some soft versions of modern hits. Not very classy. - club lounge had a nice setting with balconies on both sides, but the food selection was limited and poor. The breakfast in the morning here was a joke, and the evening offerings were gone in 20 minutes, The wine was horrible, a hotel is better off serving no wine instead of some extremly cheap stuff. - no staff in gym. Sorry parents, but it is not okay sending your children to the gym to play with the equipments. Had a work-out ruined by a family that obviously was bored and decided to use the gym as a fun factory. Rated 4 out of 5 by Hotel stay I was disappointed by the offer of type of food on the restaurant of the hotel. I was expecting to find the real typical Greek kitchen, not Italiane ! In the excelsium floor, the food was a bit poor and not well followed, once at 9 am there was no more food at breakfast, and once at 7.30pm the same happened ! October 30, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Oasis Near Athens I reserved a sea-view bungalow as it was my birthday and I wanted to splurge a little. It wasn't clear from the site whether it had a pool or not, but I though it might not and crossed my fingers for an upgrade as it was already low season. We had a transfer included in our room rate which was a comfortable mini-bus which was waiting for us and which got us there quickly. I didn't get the upgrade to the bungalow with the pool...but I did get the best bungalow they had: very large with a huge (private) terrace, which I was very happy with (and really appreicate the attention to get Bungalow 1001 from the Management!!). It felt like a private house, perched just over the sea...where I actually got to sleep with the sound of the sea lapping against the rocks below. The hotel is a little bit strange, as it was likely built in the 60's so its very boxy, as are the bungalows, however, while it could have become dated (and it must be a bit of a challenge for Management to work with the structure), this kind of wide sweeping architecture has actually come back in to style and the upkeep of the building and grounds is so good, it still looks fresh. I would definitely choose a bungalow again, as they are all very private, spacious and especially for a few they have a lovely sea and surrounding view. The beach and swimming area isn't the prettiest I have ever seen, but it does have its own charm and seems very inviting and personal. The Taverna was already closed for the season but the bar was open and the barman was super nice and helpful to select a wine or another drink. The sea got a little dirty with quite a bit of garbage floating in, and one guy came to clean, but not with enough regularity (I put this down to end-of-season). Breakfast was pleasant, but strained yoghurt was in individual commercial packs (not like at Costa Navarino where it is in a big inviting bowl. My friend (Greek) complained about the breakfast saying there weren't enough things, but I thought it was fine, although compact...but I don't think we were many in the hotel anyway. What I found a little surprising were the staff at breakfast. The waiters have pretty obviously been there from the start, so while they are efficient, they have their own way of doing things; likely after a few decades, so they can seem a little "gruff". The loud chit-chat between them is really amateurish and reminds me ofBrazilian and Greek hotel breakfast buffets from the 70's....not 5 star behaviour. I had a Spa day which was great. The ladies were really attentive and the massage was awesome (even if I felt like somebody had punched me in the should blades for two days afterwards...that's how stressed I was; she completely unblocked me so this was good thing!). I felt bad as there wasn't anyway to leave a tip, which I woudl have generously done if I could. My one suggestion is for the room ammenities...where were they?? For such a gorgeous bungalow and true to Luxury Collection properties, you would expect more...I found the selection, quality and quantity poor overall. Also minibar not well stocked and just two glasses?? I spend on the minibar,but the selection was really nothing to get excited about; especially for a place that is a little out of the way. I only stayed for two nights but wished I could have stayed much longer in that beautiful bungalow 1001. The reality is, I didn't miss the pool anyway. October 15, 2012
