My husband and I went to The Canyon Suites to celebrate a milestone birthday. It seemed like everyone at The Canyon Suites was in on a surprise party for me, though I know this is how they treat every guest. It started at the entry gate to the Phoenician where the guard called me by name and wished me happy birthday. Then the valet, then the concierge who gave us a tour of the facility and a welcoming snack box. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a view of the pool and the mountain. We were contacted in advance of our arrival by an "ambassador" asking if there's any treat we might enjoy, and we asked for a fruit/cheese plate. They had to make several delivery attempts because we were out of the room but they kept persisting and we appreciated their efforts! Fresh coffee in a silver pot in the morning with a newspaper, delightful. We also enjoyed the pool and a massage at the spa (ask for Debbie!). Dinner at Il Terrazo was another fabulous experience, again personalized with a birthday dessert with my name. This is 5-diamond, 5-star service. Heaven on earth.

To say my expectations were exceeded would be a dramatic understatement. I am a global 9 year Platinum member of Starwood and have stayed at hotels around the globe (US, Japan, Europe, Korea, India, Australia) and never before have I experienced at a SPG hotel the level of personal attention and care as at the Canyon Suites Phoenician. And the exception experience was across the board everywhere I went during my stay, from the ambassador staff at the front desk handling personal needs to the spa staff and dining staff. It was all extraordinary and exceptional.
The purpose of our trip was to celebrate a 15 year wedding anniversary and the Phoenician team were a key part of making it a relaxing special occasion for us. Our plans were to hike Camelback mountain, experience some of the fine cuisine in Phoenix, relax at the spa, play some tennis and sit poolside and enjoy the stunning property views. The Phoenician staff orchestrated the symphony of these activities on our behalf, knowing just the right notes to play and with such precision we barely needed to lift a finger during the entire vacation stay.
The ambassador staff seamlessly arranged for our transportation, called ahead to restaurants, provided us with backpacks for the hike, alerted us when the evening wine tasting events had started so we could speak with Arizona’s only master sommelier who guides guests expertly through the food and wine pairings. Kayla, DaNae and Manuel are incredible and the bottom line this amazing staff ensured every moment we had at the property was ours to enjoy.
We were also able to walk the impeccable grounds of the hotel from the stunning cactus trail to the orchid garden, the grounds are impeccably kept as another strong testament to the hotel and its grounds staff.
In conclusion our experience at the Canyon Suites Phoenician was presidential world class, and all the guests we spoke to during our visit shared the same view that this hotel stands heads tall above the rest of the starwood pack. I do urge anyone who has the potential chance to stay at this hotel to please reserve it and allow yourself to experience what we felt as an amazing beautiful relaxing getaway.

This was our 2nd visit to Canyon Suites at the Phoenician. It's an exquisite resort with beautiful grounds and a stunning sculpture collection. We love the privacy of the CS pool and the walk to the main lodge past the cactus gardens. There was always a constant covey of hovering ambassadors in the lobby and tending the door and valet stand. They were great about making or changing reservations and promptly bringing our car around. This was in stark contrast to the tardiness of the housekeeping services. On our last full day at CS, despite specifically requesting that our room be serviced at 10AM and again at noon, we had to phone a third time but our room was not cleaned until after 3PM --so we essentially had to wade through the mess of an untended room the entire day. This happened to a lesser extreme on two other days, of our 4-day stay. Why pay $$$ for a fancy suite when it looks shabby all day? Another tip, avoid the chicken caesar salad from poolside dining. Three of us ordered it and regretted it. Uninspired at best. Improving housekeeping services and food quality would make CS worthy of its gorgeous site at the base of Camelback Mountain.

My wife and myself have stayed in 5 star properties all over the world and were very pleased to have this quality of resort/hotel within a days drive. The value is there and everyone worked as hard as they could to make our stay a good experience.
