This saves me from finding out who I should write to in the Starwood organisation. The general manager, Steve Molnar, was extremely helpful in advising guests about what action they should take in regard to approaching cyclone Ita. I saw the preparations being made for the hotel to ride out the storm. I was also aware of the arrangements made for staff in Cairns to not have to travel to Port Douglas during the emergency. My wife & I are very grateful for his concern & his timely advice.

Reception area is very impressive, rooms are of a good standard. I found the staff very helpful in all areas of the resort. Dinner in Il Pescatore was beautiful, lovely atmosphere and very tasty food.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Hedda42 Hotel is really beautiful in design & layout.
The hotel is starting to show it's age. Parts need painting and updating. Our bed & furniture inside was in OK order but the wooden shutters at the balcony door needed attention. The outside furniture was not in good order. Some of the staff were excellent and others needed some training. Maybe good staff is hard to get. Food was very good if a tad expensive but Port Douglas food in general is expensive. We bought vouchers which made meals quite reasonable although I'm not sure that staff know much about them.

Being a lover of Sheraton, and having continued to return to this hotel over the last 5 years each year, we would have to say that this year she (the hotel) really is feeling old & worn down. Front Office staff are generally pleasant & Housekeeping staff are just wonderful, nothing is too much effort. The new sweet sleeper beds are wonderful but the pillows are truly horrible. Pls contact Sheraton on the Park for the best pillows around. As for the rest, the beach being just a few steps away is the ultimate, we love walking it every day. Being there in school holidays the only other issue were the shuttles into town which needed to run more often in peak times. We will continue to visit each year but I really hope that the resort will be noticeably improved by our next visit.

The peaceful & relaxing surroundings were enhanced by the friendly and attentive service throughout. This was my second stay with other family members and I will definitely be back!!

We stayed 4 nights and thought the resort was lovely, but very outdated. The lagoons and pools were beautiful, the breakfasts lovely, and the rooms quiet and comfortable. We spent a bit of time pool side, and watched people swim up to the pool bar, ring the bell and not get served within 10 minutes, so they swam off (this happened more then once). We also watched people wait for more then 15 minutes for their drinks. The cocktails we ordered ourselves from the pool bar were actually pretty bad....this area of the resort definitely needs work. We have stayed at resorts in Rarotonga, Vanuatu and Kota Kinabalu, and unfortunately the Sheraton Mirage did not match up to these. I expected more due to the Sheraton name, but overall, it was a nice resort. I just expected more then nice.

This hotel property is quite old and a little strange (lobby statues) mixed in with Chinese style wooden tables however the service staff of the hotel make for a pleasant stay.
The room was also old, but after a soothing hot bath and relaxing under the fan vice A/C, the room was very relaxing.
The F&B Manager was assisting in the restaurant the first day we arrived and helped out with different types of seafood we wanted to order. His service level and knowledge was excellent.

The Shertaon Port Douglas is a large complex with beautiful lagoons and gardens. The hotel is older and needs updating, but grounds make up for that. Karen at the tour desk was very helpful in booking and recommending tours and sites to see. The hotel is located on 4 mile beach and you can walk either way for a good distance. You can walk to town on the beach, but do not recommend during the evening hours as it is really dark and jungle like..Would need a car to get to town or take the shuttle to town.

We needed a special holiday after a series of major medical issues. The Sheraton Mirage delivered a rest beyond our expectations, the environment of water, gardens and the comfort of the rooms fabulous. We loved the mix of families , older people partying people and everyone in between.
The staff are consistently helpful no matter who you are dealing with, we will certainly be return guests next year.

This Sheraton was a dissapointment especially because it has such potential to be spectacular. Everything, rooms, lobby, pools area etc is shabby and old. But what was especially apparent was how little attention the green areas or landscaped areas are getting. Dead foliage everywhere and just not up to par with the other Sherarons we have visited. Staff was nice especially housekeeping. We also wondered why the bean is separate from the hotel. You can't see it and there are no chairs on it.

This hotel has serious staff problems.
From some staff not able to understand English and the total lack of attention to customer needs, it is like they are on the vacation not the guests. And every time we stay at this hotel I have and argument with reception staff about SPG entitlements. I truly believe it has major upper management problem as in my view a fish ROTS from the head down. When we return to Port Douglas we will not book in here unless there is great improvement in service!

We recently stayed at the Sheraton Mirage, Port Douglas for three nights from 19-22 May 2012 and I am writing to thank all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable.
I wanted to make particular mention in relation to the Aqua Bubble activity for the children. We have 2 daughters aged 8 and 6 years and we booked them in at the Aqua Bubble on each day of our stay - even a couple of times on one day! They had so much fun, which in turn made my husband and I extremely happy as we were able to enjoy a couple of hours of uninterrupted time by the pool together. The owner/operator of the Aqua Bubble was extremely pleasant and helpful and obviously has a wonderful way with children. The Aqua Bubble was a fantastic part of our holiday at your resort and is certain to be a draw card for families in the future!

Great check in, upgraded room (SPG Gold).
Superb grounds and location which keep us coming back ("Samsung" logos sprayed onto the grass did grate a bit though, hopefully temporary).
We accept that renovations are due, but the lobby / restaurant areas are in excellent shape. Rooms still acceptable.
Il Pescatore was unimpressive both nights we visited and now can be beaten quite easily for food and service by the top places in Port Douglas.
There appeared to be difficulty in ascertaining exactly what SPG Gold was entitled to, and the bottled water had to be requested a couple of times. A newspaper was delivered on my last morning - I was told at check out that it was delivered every morning that week but must have been taken by other hotel
guests. OK, points for a quick answer.
Never mind, we will be back!

We live in Cairns so are considered locals at the Sheraton Mirage, Port Douglas.
We went there for 2 nights to celebrate our 49th wedding anniversary. We loved every moment and we were made to feel very special. Our room was beautiful as is the whole hotel. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.
You have achieved the right balance between being a luxurious high class hotel and that of being friendly and homely. We can't wait for another opportunity to come back.

Been here 3 or 4 times. Although a bit far out of town for some, can be advantageous for others. We are aware the hotel is being completely face-lifted next year and this is well overdue. Fixtures, fittings and lobby areas are very dated. Staff helpful - couple of minor hiccups but would still gladly recommend for the overall ambience. The lush gardens are beautiful. Look forward to see it in its new outfit in a couple of years. Love the pool areas.

The rooms at the Mirage were large and comfortable. The local shuttle bus stops at the hotel every half hour until 11:00 and is very convenient for going out to restaurants and grocery stores. The pools are wonderful although it would have been nice if the water was a bit cooler. It was also a bit of a trek from our room to the pool. All of the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Onsite restaurant selection is not great during the offseason and items are a bit pricey.

The Sheraton Port Douglas has an amazing staff. The pool, beach and grounds are lovely. However, the rooms need some upgrades like the furniture and carpet. Other than that, we loved our stay. We love port douglas and the great staff at the Sheraton. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. Thank you!

We were a little disappointed with the staff and their helpfulness. There were many times we had to walk or phone to be informed for the most simple things. There were 4 of us in a room and only 3 towels were placed daily. On arrival the receptionist didn't give us an overview of the resort only how to get to our rooms. No beach towels coupons were given either. Poolside service was almost non existent. Other than that, we loved the pool and days laying by relaxing.

Our room was dated, but it was huge and well appointed. Amazingly comfy bed, lovely bathroom, good facilities. Breakfast fantastic. Lagoon pools and grounds also fantastic. Right on the beach too, but nicely sheltered and secluded.

Great pools, but there were too many kids. Good if there was an adults only area. Also the shopping village where the spa was was awful. Thought there would at least be some shops.
Obviously rooms are dated, but I understand thatthey are being refurbed soon.
Pool bar couldn't cope with too many orders either.
bad that you have to get a shuttle bus across to the fitness centre.
I wouldn't rush back. Not for the price and certainly not in school holidays.

The beds were quite uncomfortable and resulted in both my partner and I having sore backs afterwards. Our booking stated that we would have a king size bed, however we were provided with two double beds. On questioning this I was advised that due to us booking through a third party preference is given to those who book direct with the hotel and there is no guarantee to bedding availability when booking with a third party. This was quite disappointing

We loved the fabulous pools!! The buffet breakfast was excellent, but unfortunately the other meals were not. Buffet dinner was below average & we decided not to go again. All meals very overpriced & there was a $10 room service charge! Be aware of charges for things that are free at other resorts for children: town shuttle, Aqua Play ($15 day), kids club ($50 per half day!!). We ate at Port Douglas to improve the quality of our meals & reduce costs

We stayed at the Mirage for 9 nights from 9th to 18th September and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We could have easily stayed another week. It still has a wonderful atmosphere and style with a great feeling of space. The pools are unrivalled by any other hotel. The location just metres to Four Mile Beach is another bonus. The staff were so willing to please and overall we found nothing that would prevent us from going back next September. Can't wait.

The hotel had great facilities and was for the most part very family friendly. The only disappointing thing was the front counter staffer at the breakfast buffet. She was rude and treated us and our child like an annoyance. It was busy but two days in a row after being checked in we were ignored and had to remind her we had yet to be seated despite standing right in front of her for a good 20 minutes with a hungry and obviously bored toddler!

Thanks to the hotel and staff you made my family and I very welcome, we are locals and we were in Port Douglas for the marathon as it was my first marathon. It was lovely to have a late check out. We would like to give some feedback in the kids program - please be more specific in the detail about the kids meals - it wasn't clear that we (adults) had to order something to eat for us for the kids to be able to eat for free at the pool area.
