Rated 2 out of 5 by nickle and dimed to death - fees for EVERYTHING - a complete disappointment we have frequented this destination as well as the sister hotels on Waikiki - this visit was entirely different - changes to room charges, beach chair charges, on and on - we don't mind paying premium prices for luxury accommodations but to be nickle and dimed to death on vacation was unexpected and disappointing. the hotel is gorgeous and the location perfect - it was the change in the management of the facility that was lacking. Rated 3 out of 5 by For the money... While the hotel is beautiful (this is the 2nd time I stayed here), the rooms are falling apart since the building itself is old. The door to the cabinet fell off, the shower was kind of moldy, the refrig shook everytime i tried to tug it open, and you can hear people in the hallway and in rooms next door very clearly. The service is excellent, but for the money, I'd like to be very comfortable in a room that's not falling apart. July 5, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by An oasis in Waikiki Approaching the property was like entering an oasis, a magical castle. It had a special energy with quite a history: "if these walls could talk", I would love to hear the stories. Happy Hour at Mai Tai Bar with pupus, checking out the beach scene was a lot of fun. Extra special talk story with a sweet staff member named Romeo, who shared a personal warmth and aloha spirit to a potentially daunting property--made us feel at home. April 29, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by aloha for the pink palace we visit hawaii every year, our home away from the mainland, and always wanted to experience a stay at the historic pink palace. it was amazing from the moment we stepped into the lobby. the staff was so friendly and curtious, very helpful and went out of their way to make our stay the best. we missed the historic tour, so they made special arrangements for us to have a historic tour with the manager. it was a very memorable and informative tour. we stayed in the garden junior suite in the original hotel. it was beautiful. liked it better than the newer tower, which is designed modern. the larger pool with waterslide is shared with another hotel, situated between the two. there is its own small pool that was quiet and nice. beach is so easy to access and go to, dont really need a pool. we ate breakfast there, was really good food, a bit high in cost though. Rated 5 out of 5 by The Royal The Royal Hawaiian lives up to its name - the whole staff treat you like royalty. The rooms are great after the remodel, comfortable and clean and the house keeping staff are wonderful. Front desk personnel were very friendly and the concierge staff were extremely helpful. We used the valet parking service and these folks were also very helpful with suggestions for hiking and sightseeing. A great stay and we will return! April 23, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Disappointed We had previously stated at the Royal Hawaiian for our honeymoon and had a wonderful experience. This trip was good in many respects, but disappointing in others. Having had a wonderful view of the ocean and diamond head in our prior stay, we opted for the Tower Premium Oceanfront with King bed option. We were extremely disappointed to get a room with an ocean view on only floor 9 since we believed that we would get a high floor (floor 9 is not a high floor in a 16 / 17 floor building in my opinion) with the premium view (including diamond head). I spoke with the staff regarding our disappointment but there were no options available which met all the criteria that we had booked. While I would recommend the hotel based upon our first stay, I would not recommend the hotel based upon our recent stay since I felt we were sold one room and did not receive a room that met the criteria we were sold. Rated 5 out of 5 by GREAT HOTEL Can't say enough about this hotel. The staff, accommodation, everything was wonderful. We went to the Luau and the performance was fabulous. Loved the way the staff met us when we arrived. The lai's, from the doormen, the juice while we waited for check in to be finished. House keeping were very helpful also. I would recommend this hotel to both couples and families. April 28, 2014

Very uncomfortable; house keeping inconsistent ; initial woman at front desk quite unfriendly concierge rude subsequent front desk personnel very helpful &pleasant. However first impressions by initial folk very poor. Pool is essentially non existent very very tiny. Would stick with more modern newer resort hotel September 30, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Beyond Amazing The Royal Hawaiian provided an experience that will last a lifetime. From the beautiful architecture to the delightful food, this resort creates flawless details. My son and I both enjoyed swimming in the pools, and our room was not only gorgeous, but spacious and very clean as well. The staff were all kind and prompt with assisting us in any way. Rated 4 out of 5 by Local for night away We live here on Oahu and needed a night away from kids. This location is great! Feels like in country but right in city. Excellent staff. Wonderful spacious rooms. Only challenge this time was interruptions; getting complimentary bread then night service turn down we did not expect. So if want no interruptions be sure to let them know at check in. Comfy beds too. This is our spot! April 6, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Terrific Hotel, Great Staff Loved the Royal Hawaiian. The room was exceptionally comfortable as well as beautifully appointed. I would request room 335 again as it fit our needs. Staff at the RH could not be more helpful, pleasant and happy. The only negatives were: the equipment in the fitness room needs an update as well as maintenance (serviced) and it would be great to have food service at the beach. February 27, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by This hotel is truly royal in every way. I grew up here in the islands. This was my first experience staying at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. The place is really beautiful and has the feel of old Hawaii. All of the employees I interacted with were very friendly and helpful. The bed is plush and comfortable. The food is excellent both at the Mai Tai Bar and Azure Restaurant. Both overlook Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head. May 21, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by A Hawaiian Disappointment My stay at the Royal Hawaiian was less than optimum. The showerhead was broken, the phone in the room did not work, there was no clock in the room, and there was a strong smell of raw sewage on the walk from the shopping center to the hotel. Overall, I have had better stays at much lesser quality hotels. I would not recommend staying there, and I will not stay there again. November 24, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by What a lovely hotel! We have stayed at half a dozen different hotels on Oahu and the Royal Hawaiian is our favorite. We always stay in the original part of the hotel, which has photos of old Hawaii and other Hawaiian details. The grounds are lovely and you can sit in rocking chairs and look out on the garden. It is also conveniently located near shops in Waikiki. Great breakfast too. August 22, 2013

After one night of disappointment due to an error in our room reservation, Monica, the daytime hotel Manager, took charged and immediately set us up in an even better accomodation. Everything after that was just exactly how we planned our vacation at the Royal Hawaiian. The Staff are friendly, the food is fabulous and the hotel is lovely. Miss it already!!!! December 31, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Check out I only spent one night at The Royal, but I had a great experience. The one thing that I did want to comment on was your "estimated charge". The total cost for my room was $355 but my debit card was charged $392. It made no sense to me why my card was already charged the greater amount, and now I have to wait for 2 - 7 days for the difference to be refunded. November 12, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Not the same old hotel Since the remodel it seems like the hotel has changed. There is a charge for beach lounge chairs now. The new pool is smaller. No snack bar at pool. Carpet in room was not clean. Maids did not leave sufficiant coffee, shampoo, conditioner, or kleenex. Coffee grounds were spilled in the room and maids did not clean the floor. Rated 5 out of 5 by 2013 Family Vacation We had a family vacation at The Royal Hawaiian. The best hotel in Hawaii, and would highly recommend. Staff was great and accomodating. Concierge staff, maids, valet, bellman, etc. could not have been better. Thanks for making this vaction a memory for me and my entire family. This is my 4th year in a row at the Royal Hawaiian. When you travel for business, it's very helpful. It was also nice to receive over and above service like bellhop service and banana nut muffins in your room. May 1, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Pink lady the best place to stay. Wonderful magestic Hotel ,we met up with my sister and husband from Australia and couldn't have found a better Hotel. Takes you back in time .From the moment you arrive nothing is too much trouble for the staff.We all absolutely loved it! We stayed in the older part , overlooking the gardens .Sister's room was in the modern section.We rated ours the best. Only thing i'd change is make the pool area larger ,we sat on the sunbeds behind a section of plants and couldn't see the pool .Better to have two palm trees there instead :) Wished we had the name for a member of staff to say a big Thank you, whom one night took pics of the 4 of us acting silly ,he was so funny . When a Hotel makes you feel so welcome and makes those special touches that brings a smile ,you know you have it right .well done! Pease don't change the Pink lady lady she truly stands out from all the other sky scraper Hotels. Thank you so much will recommend to all my friends . July 21, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautiful, romantic hotel We had such a nice overnight stay! The property is so pretty! I loved the complimentary mai tai, to feel part of the scene. A little inconsistent in the room -- the remote was busted, they forgot the coffeemaker in the room, but they took care of it relatively soon. I would happily return. The staff in the Azure were terrificly personable. July 3, 2013

As a family of four with twin 6 year old children, we loved the resort and the staff who were super warm and welcoming. It was also during spring break which was a nice surprise since I would have expected things to be a little more hectic. Will becoming back again - already looking to rebook! April 7, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Nice hotel, but rude staff I had arrived to the hotel earlier than the check in time. I asked the reception if there were any other rooms available for immediate check in, and the woman behind the counter scoffed and told me that the room would only be available at 3PM. Hours later, when I merely asked about any status updates, I was told very rudely again that no, there were no rooms available, and that there were people who had arrived earlier than me who still did not have rooms. I was told at I would be given a key exactly at the check in time. However, at 3PM, my room was still not ready and I was finally given a key at 3:40 PM with no apologies for the delay. I understand that the hotel cannot have a room ready immediately on my arrival, but never have I been treated with such disrespect at a luxury hotel. It's evident that the staff needs additional hospitality training. After traveling 1000+ miles and given the reputation of your hotel, I expected better treatment. August 17, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Needs improvement Hotel has a great atmosphere and location, But needs tremendous improvement. Everything I noticed was rusty and worn out. Bathroom had splatters of brown spots, balcony paint was old and chipping away, pool umbrellas are brown. Our table at lunch collapsed from being worn out. I can go on and on..... The hotel itself was old and worldly, we would stay again without hesitation. Congratulations to all of you for looking after us so well and it made this trip wonderful and extremely enjoyable. Rated 3 out of 5 by Waikiki's (faded) grande dame Like Elizabeth Taylor, everyone knows the name and history of this storied hotel. Today, I look at this property and say that I wish I had been there back in the glory days. I'm torn, as I want to love the Royal Hawaiian, but by holding it up to the standard of a Luxury Collection/Category 6 property it just doesn't rate. On the positive side, the customer-facing staff of the hotel are exceptional in their care, attention, and just general expression of aloha. From the housekeepers who were understanding about my work schedule (conference calls with the mainland when they wanted to clean the room), to the assistance provided by the beach personnel, to the warm welcome every time I sidled up to the Mai Tai bar, I could see why people would want to come back. Nice little touches like the banana bread upon arrival (recipe included!) were truly appreciated. On the other hand, I cannot accept that a hotel of this calibre, after having completed a multi-million dollar renovation, could only be able to bind a broken-on-arrival shower head with electrical tape (the maintenance men who came told me the rate of failure was so high they had no more spares in stock). I can somewhat accept that two scales were also broken-on-arrival, but I cannot accept being served spoiled food products. The coffee creamer provided in-room with the coffeemaker was chunky yogurt...for two days straight. After calling and complaining twice, fresh milk was sent up daily, which while nice still doesn't address the fundamental problem of what they were trying to serve guests. Unfortunately, my invitation to the GM's cocktail hour was tucked under other paperwork in my room instead of being left in a prominent place, so I didn't have a chance to speak to my issues in person, and my numerous calls to get remediation were only satisfied once I got SPG on the phone and asked for help. All in all, I was underwhelmed. Maybe it was because I redeemed Award Nights, maybe it was because I wasn't Platinum at the time of my stay, but the failure by the hotel management to engage left me disappointed, and the rooms - lovely as they were in the Historic building - need some more TLC before being let out to customers again. Rated 5 out of 5 by Old Style Experience We selected the Royal Hawaiian for the Art Deco feel and it delivered on that. If you need a big modern room or a large bathroom this is not the place for you. The dining is limited but Waikiki provides plenty. Property seems isolated even though it is in the heart of Waikiki and the beach is right out the door. The staff is attentive and the management of needs was excellent. September 17, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice but too expensive compared with hotel conditions Nice hotel, but felt a little discomfort with the room conditions and SPG recognition of the hotel. Very old hotel, even new built tower rooms were also very old and seemed like they need to be renovated. Price is extremely high but couldn't figure out the reason why. Expected to have some SPG benefits but none at all. December 28, 2012

Excellence in staff, dining, laying by a pool, shopping or just snuggling up in crisp white sheets in a comfortable room that is well appointed. I prefer the old rooms for their history and charm.
