Rated 5 out of 5 by RafKam Great Value, Excellent Holiday
Due to the recent troubles in Egypt, Luxor popped up in our radar as a bargain holiday destination: this hotel is no exception as you can stay here for a fraction of its usual price. And for the altruists out there, the tourism industry in Egypt is so battered that you really feel like you are helping the people by visiting the country. The location is second to none, right on the Nile river, there are always taxis ready to take you to most sights, and you can arrange tours with a taxi driver for very reasonable rates.
There are two swimming pools, one by the Nile which is more adult-oriented, and another one which is kid-friendly.
If you are an SPG Platinum guest you will feel like an absolute star here! We were upgraded to a massive suite with wraparound balcony, and we were the only users of the guest lounge, so we had personalized service by the attendant who was always there to bring us any food we liked from the restaurant downstairs. During the evening drinks he served so much food especially for us we hardly even needed any dinner! Food options are ok, and reasonably good value. They do decent bar snacks by the pool, and there is a good value buffet dinner, although the food is not amazing, but convenient as there is nothing particularly great around town.
Staff was very friendly and eager to help, and we never felt pressurized to tip, as others have indicated.
The property has a 1980s feel to it, but is generally very comfortable, and has amazing sunset views. Yes, the hotel is an eyesore, and looks like a bunker, but I guess it’s just the architectural style prevalent in the 80s. The rooms are nicely appointed though. There are also feluccas moored just by the hotel so you can go for a sundowner quick cruise. We had a wonderful stay at a bargain price, and would recommend a holiday to Luxor to anyone as it felt very safe, and culturally it had some of the most awe-inspiring sights I have ever seen!

Have returned year after year!
Hotel nicely situated on the Nile's bank but secluded in a cul de sac at the end of the main Nile road, within easy walking distance of all attractions, although taxis are plentiful and cheap. The hotel also runs its own courtesy bus.
Hotel immaculately presented in its grounds, public areas and individual rooms.
Beds, of course, very comfortable!
Nile view rooms offer extraordinary sunsets!
All staff are helpful, welcoming and attentive!
Will be back!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Mikhail A great place for watching sunsets
Hotel is facing Nile river and if your room has Nile view it is a great place to watch sunsets. I recommend taking a boat from the hotel's pier for a short trip to Banana island. Otherwise staff was very friendly and made our stay very pleasant.
As for sightseeing be prepared to use taxi to and from hotel. It is cheap and there is a taxi rank at hotel entrance.
Finally, if you plan to watch movies or enjoy internet you may want to find different hotel. It didn't have Video-on-demand at all and selection of English-speaking channels was very limited. Internet speed was very slow - I even struggled to check my Facebook news feed.

I have been staying at the Sheraton Resort since 1990 and seen many changes in both the Hotel and Luxor since then. The staff are marvellous, very friendly and welcoming although the Management frequently seem a little aloof and only converse if you take the first step.

If you like to spend a holiday without the feeling that you left your home and the people you know, Sheraton Luxor is the best place you feel that you are home. Welcoming people, fantastic place and feeling secured. It is the best holiday I spent up till now.

Lovely hotel with lovely staff - they are amazingly polite and helpful.
The pools are both idyllic and the setting is beautiful.
The minibus which is free is a great facility to have and takes you well into town.
All in all an excellent holiday

Sheraton Luxor is a comfortable and well appointed property located in front of the Nile River. Luxor is not a big city, therefore all the sites and venues are within few minutes ride. It is truly not a new property, but it is kept in decent shape and most of the rooms are refurbished and appointed with more modern and comfortable furniture. It is an excellent option for using Starpoints. Having stayed at the Club Floor with a room overviewing the Nile River was truly remarkable. Definitely enjoyed watching the sunrise, sunset and night illuminations of the Valley of the Kings from the balcony. Rooms with the Nile view, in the first floor at the main building have a huge terrace that extends all over the lobby roof. Bungalow rooms are in a separate area behind the main building and most of them overlook the beautiful swimming pool surrounded by gardens. The riverside swimming pool is more private, but is a little bit dated and has no whirlpool unlike the other one. My only disappointment was that the Club lounge was closed during all my stay because of low occupation. Instead, breakfast was offered at no cost at the restaurant, which was a nice touch to make up for the closure of the lounge.
The bar and two restaurants offer good and reasonably priced meals. Breakfast in the terrace of the restaurant, enjoying the River views is a must while staying here.

I have just arrived home from my 46th stay at the Sheraton Luxor.
Although the the choice of food at breakfast is now a little more limited than in the past the quality remains high and waiters maintain their high standards as always.
The room service menu gives a good choice of food, always well presented though as might be expected considering the problems in Egypt and reduced guest numbers, somewhat more expensive but still reasonable.
With reference to the small swimming pool which although only a few years old, it is not wearing very well. The artificial rocks are developing cracks and at least 1 large hole, cracks are appearing in the joins with small amounts of the cement falling out onto the steps and the pool boy is obviously doing his best to make the most of what appears to have been something of a cowboy job.
Just a note of caution to anyone making a reservation through the Starwood website!
At 4.20am on the morning of 12th October 2014 I went to reception to check out with the suited employee. He appeared to have little knowledge of using the computer and had to be joined by one of his colleagues who took over from him. After disputing the bill I was told the discrepancy between it and the total bill printed on my Starwood reservation was that the hotel needed to add local and room taxes.
Fortunately I had my printed reservation with me which clearly showed these various taxes included in the total amount payable, thus making the bill £350 rather than the £304 quoted on my Starwood web reservation.
Immediately my bill was reduced to that of my original reservation but left me somewhat doubtful as to whether this was an oversight or perhaps something else.
SO DO CHECK YOUR BILL!
In conclusion I would add I shall return to the Sheraton.
