Q: How did you come to Starwood?

I had actually left the hotel industry a few years before I started with Starwood and opened my own business, but was pulled back in when people I’d worked with saw me at a wedding reception and introduced me to the general manager. He interviewed me the following Monday and I became the Banquet Manager of the Sheraton in Hartford.

Q: What has been your progression through Starwood?

I stayed with the Sheraton in Hartford and was promoted from Banquet Manager to the Director of Convention Services of the hotel. When I moved over to the Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center Hotel in New Jersey, I started as the Director of Convention Services, and was then promoted to Director of Food and Beverage at the property after six months. The promotion pace continued, and I moved into the post of Area Director of Food and Beverage for the New Jersey properties, and then to Director of Operations before becoming a Six Sigma Black Belt at the Sheraton Atlantic City.

Q: What are your current responsibilities?

As Director of Food and Beverage at the Sheraton Atlantic City, my team handles the restaurant, room service and the lounge, in addition to all the meetings, conventions and social events held at the property. As the Director of Convention Services, I ensure the convention services team handles all the planning and detailing in addition to ensuring that all necessary information goes out to the operations team.

Q: What is your favorite thing about your job? The most satisfying?

My favorite part? The interaction with clients and the staff, juggling multiple challenges at once—we may have five groups in at a time with different needs and concerns—and the fact that things are always changing and no two days are alike. The most satisfying part of my job is when the meeting planner is happy with the way we handled the group and rebooks for the following year.
