San Pasqual Battlefield State Historic Park
15808 San Pasqual Valley Road
Perhaps after visiting the nearby San Diego Wild Animal Park, history buffs will enjoy learning a little about the struggles for land ownership that took place in this region. On this spot in 1846, a contingent of American forces tried to defend this land against a group of Californians, Spanish-Mexican residents of California. The American forces lost that round, but came back to reclaim the area with the aid of Commodore Stockton. A museum now stands on the grounds to commemorate the battles. Admission is free.
