This small restaurant tucked into a corner of a strip mall in the heart of Hillcrest offers a spirited setting to explore the subtleties of sake. For those who think it comes in one variety served anonymously lukewarm in an earthenware jar, this spot will stimulate a taste for more exotic discoveries. The food is a range of Japanese specialties, mostly refined at the original location up in Encinitas, where they gathered many fans. Here, most dishes take on the guise of Japanese tapas, meaning small plates served with sake. -deTraci Regula
