San Diego . . . filled with the charm of its Spanish settlers, is a vacationer's paradise. Sun, sand, beaches, mountains, and lakes are all at your fingertips. Known as a world-class destination, it's no wonder they call it "America's Finest City."

This hotspot is small in size, but that doesn't seem to discourage the crowds in search of high-end tequila and new takes on Mexican food. With all the choices of fine tequila at hand, it isn't surprising that they offer a rainbow array of margaritas - roasted jalapeno blackberry, serrano chili and fresh oregano are some of the more unusual offerings. Drinks rule the day but on the food side they promise the best "Mexican soul comida" (soul food) in San Diego, though portions are not as lavish as soul food would imply. Leave Mexico for a moment and give the Brazil bowl a try. The decor is folk-art intense with lots of Day of the Dead skulls and vivid colors. -deTraci Regula
