In an area of San Diego’s north county coastal community, Don Chuy Restaurant hides away within a residential neighborhood. The white stucco building with green trim gives the impression that this restaurant may have once been one of those homes, though it actually started as a grocery store, evolved into a market-café, and then became a restaurant. They serve appetizers like Taquitos and Quesadillas, breakfast dishes like Machaca and Huevos Rancheros, and entrees like fish tacos and a guacamole. For those who want a traditional southern meal, Don Chuy serves dishes like Chilaquiles (toasted corn tortilla, cooked with onions and spicy Mexican chile sauce, and topped with melted cheese). - Erick Pettersen
