San Diego used to be a French wasteland, but a slew of French restaurants has changed that. This one is at the location of one of the French pioneers, La Vache. Sharing the same block as Italian-themed Arrivederci, it's now possible to say hello to dinner at the same time you say "Goodbye" in two different languages. Most of the waitstaff is French, which makes it a great opportunity to find out just how badly your high school French teacher misled you. The menu is split between reasonably priced seasonal offerings and French classics such as escargot and beef bourguinon. Suitable wines are available, with most well-priced compared to other French bistros in San Diego. -deTraci Regula
