Originally known as Tuhe, Jinzhou is an ancient port city located in the southwestern part of China’s Liaoning Province. Nestled along the southern foot of the Songling Mountains, it faces Liaodong Bay—one of the three bays that form the Bohai Sea. Within the city, the Sheraton Jinzhou Hotel is centrally situated on Keji Road, just three kilometres from the Central Business District (CBD) and 34 kilometres from the Jinzhou Economic and Technical Development Zone. Jinzhou Airport (JNZ) is just a 15-minute drive away.

Layered in over 1,000 years of history, Jinzhou boasts numerous inspiring sights, including Yiwulu Mountain. One of China’s most sacred mountains, it is home to the renowned Wanghai Temple and Beizhen Temple, Shenshui Bridge, and Lotus Stone. Alternatively, take a boat ride to Mount Bijia. Due to its tall stone pavilion resembling a giant pen resting on a penholder, this unique sight is often referred to as “Pen Holder Mountain.” Scattered throughout the area are a number of small Buddhist temples and vendors selling souvenirs and snacks. If it’s low tide, you have the memorable option of returning from the isthmus to the mainland via a cobblestone bridge.

For another intriguing experience, visit Wenya Museum. The work of amateur collector Du Wenya, it houses an impressive collection of more than 300 locally found Jurassic fossils. For a taste of more recent history, visit the Liaoshen Campaign Memorial. Inside this large museum, you’ll discover thousands of the weapons used during the campaign as well pictures and documents. Its highlight, however, is the Panoramic Picture Hall, where the Battle of Jinzhou is reproduced on a rotating circular screen. Relax following your adventures at Guta Park, home to the impressive 13-storey octagonal Guangji Pagoda and other Liao style architecture. Reenergize afterward with the area’s delicious indigenous cuisine, including dried bean curd, smoked chicken, DaoGuang 25 wine, and fresh seafood from Bohai Bay.
