Surrounded by hills, Putian is a picturesque prefecture-level city situated in the southeastern coastal area of China’s Fujian Province. Shoppers will delight in Putian’s lacquerware items. Paper umbrellas and horn combs are other traditional handicrafts that come from the province’s capital, Fuzhou. For a true taste of indigenous culture, attend a Puxian opera performance, one of China’s oldest forms of the art. In addition to its lychees, pomelos, longans, and loquats, Putian has an abundance of razor clams, oysters, octopus, and other delicious seafood. Sample some of the local cuisine, including Xinghua rice flour noodles, bean curd balls, chicken rolls, and beer brewed right in Putian.
