Sheraton Dallas Hotel is committed to being as green as possible. The hotel's Environmental Committee, led by our Six Sigma Black Belt, has implemented a host of sustainable practices in our ongoing effort to leave a smaller footprint.
The hotel monitors electric, gas, water, and waste usage information on a daily basis along with tracking recycling versus waste. A hot water recirculation system has been installed as part of the property renovation, reducing hot water heating demand. Our interior landscape is a "xeriscape", or environmental landscaping project, requiring no water or daily maintenance and affording a zero carbon footprint.
Our "Make a Green Choice" Program is averaging a 17.2% participation rate among our guests, and recycling bins have been installed in all rooms and public spaces. A guest room digital Energy Management program and network-enabled thermostats have been installed with infrared occupancy and PMS interfaces. New 2.5-gallons per minute showerheads have been added throughout the facility, and 1.6-gallon toilets have been installed in all guestrooms.
A recycling program for hazardous materials found in fluorescent bulbs, batteries, and lighting ballasts through licensed service providers is in place. In conjunction with the hotel's building contractor we have sponsored and planted 1,000 trees in Brazil through "Trees for the Future."
A new, energy-efficient laundry plant has been installed, reducing water/sewer demands by 66%, while all office paper products are 30% post-consumer recycled content. An overall Star-rating certification is in process to demonstrate our commitment to greener practices.
