The booklet in the room states a pool. The elevator indicated there was a sauna. There was no sauna. When we got to the pool it smelled of chlorine but when I looked at the pool there was a clear indication that it had not been cleaned. I felt if I had swam in that pool I would surely have gotten a fungal infection or some parasitic disease. There was a film of slime throughout the whole pool..

Maybe being HQ for nearby college homecoming and 5 wedding groups on a fall foliage weekend was too much. Reserved and paid for queen bed, (for 2), got standard bed and "sorry". Network TV stations were "out". Room key not properly activated. Bartender ruined a Manhattan- used dry vermouth only, even after I specified "sweet." Restaurant quality inconsistent. Chicken great, scallops absolutely tasteless. Housekeeping staff was very nice.
Appears they don't need to try very hard to fill beds. Put a damper on my birthday celebration.

The Hotel charges $15 a day for self-parking but the parking lot is also available to the public. This week, the parking lot was completely full 2 out of 3 days I stayed there and took me 15 minutes of circling the parking lot to finally found a vacating spot. Not good, not good at all!

Rated 3 out of 5 by RFGJ Great hotel... but not for the price
I was quite disappointed with the hotel overall- the facility was beautiful and the location was great, but the astronomical price set my expectations higher. I was disappointed that for that price, we also had to pay for parking, and that not even a light continental breakfast was included... I was mostly disappointed that after paying so much for a place to stay that our guest room wasn't completely updated. 80% of the room was beautiful, but our bathroom looked like it hadn't been touched in years- the walls were scuffed, the counter was chipped, and the shower head looked to be about 20 years old... There were plenty of other details at the hotel that were great and overall it was clean, but again for the price paid, I expected perfection.

Rated 3 out of 5 by crobertsca OK, but nothing to write home about
I stayed here with my family at the end of July for a couple of nights and found the hotel just OK for the price. While the location was great for walking into the old downtown core, and while the lobby area was nice, once we got to our floor and rooms we weren't too impressed. The hallways, room furniture, bathrooms and room carpeting are old and tired and need updating and replacing. This gave the hotel a run down appearance beyond the lobby area. The pool was also closed for repairs which was a disappointing surprise for our us and our children.

Convenient hotel, very beautiful layout. Our complaint was that it was very loud. You could hear everything going on around you.
Also disappointed that the pool was closed, my fault for not checking that. Otherwise a nice hotel for the area.

Although arrived early, ~ noon, room was still not available until after 3 and the room we received had the AC equipment right outside, which for the 2 days we were there was being serviced so the workmen looked right in the room. Additionally, we had the breakfast program, but on check-in we never received the coupons. It was only upon leaving that I questioned it and was provided with the coupons which we then dashed to the restaurant before breakfast ended so we could at least recoup that expense. Additionally, upon check-in learned that the pool was closed for repairs, but we could walk a mile or so to a public pool if we so chose. Otherwise, a beautiful hotel and super location for access to all that Portsmouth has to offer.

We stayed here last year for our anniversary and loved our waterview suite. When booking a return trip the agent said we would get a similar room but we were disappointed to receive a parking lot view room which was in need of painting. We will only consider a return trip if we are guaranteed a water view.

No SPG recognition. Did not offer any choices either bonus nor amnesties. I am still waiting for SPG credit. Usually I get them the next day. I had to negotiate a 1PM check out - thought platinum would get 4PM without a hassle. The best experience I got in this hotel was from valet parking - they were awesome friendly and generous

We used SPG points at this hotel, so we had an SPG room, which now I am guessing the smaller rooms. Our room was shaped at a triangle, which was a little odd but the bathroom was way to small because of it. The wall is right in your face as your using the toilet .Our a/c unit in our room was a bit noisy and it never really kept our room cool even at 60 but I think it's because the shape of the room.

Rated 3 out of 5 by jm03087 showing its age
the hotel is located within walking distance of many great shops and restaurants along the waterfront in Portsmouth. Its restaurant is depicted as having a waterview while dining. We opted for a top floor club level room in the hope we would have some kind of water view from our room as well. WARNING -This is a working harbor and any 'waterviews' you may be fortunate to have will contain more cranes, flashing lights, towers, sand piles and commercial/industrial trappings, etc etc then they will water.
Our top floor, club level room ($20 extra) was small and awkwardly shaped with an extremely uncomfortable chair and tired looking bath
There are 2 dated elevators that are extremely slow and a bit scary, with only one travelling to the top floor. Wait time was excessive. Access to "the club" allows you to enter a very small, claustrophobic area with a few tables where Continental breakfast is served. The breakfast was sparse and unappealing; even worse was the very small size of the room allows for no privacy whatsoever - when we entered, there happened to be a very loud, obnoxious guest
dominating the entire room, making it so unpleasant we decided to go elsewhere and pay for a breakfast where there was adequate space to have some sense of privacy.
We noticed a number of areas inside the hotel that needed painting, patching etc. Not sure how old the hotel is, but it is showing signs of age.
We were the only 2 diners in the restaurant on Saturday night @ 8 pm. Our 'view' overlooked a mountainous pile of sand or salt directly in front of the hotel. The kitchen took it upon themselves to substitute risotto for potato and brocolli for asparagus without a mention from our server. The seafood itself was reasonably good, but clashed with the substitutes, making the $29 each dinner (no salad) unsatisfactory.
Overall, barely an average hotel, not worth the room rate, restaurant and cocktail prices.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Kristin7 Great staff but...
The staff were friendly, helpful, and courteous. The room was neat and clean.
However; the heating system in the room was very loud. Throughout the night, there were several times that it sounded as if a bus was revving its engine. Could not make use of the darkening curtains because they would have blocked the air flow from the heating/air conditioner unit (very poor planning and design).
The bathroom sink faucet appeared cheap looking. Use of the shower was cumbersome because the hot/cold water control needs adjusting.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Unimpressed I'll stay somewhere else next time
I guess I expected more by paying more to stay on the Club Level. Arrived to find the room clean, yet small. Stocked mini bar didn't have the correct inventory, the bed angled downhill and was like laying on a mountain range. The television didn't work. I realize it's a hotel, but doors slammed all night long and any soundproofing seemed nonexistant. Not worth the money.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Jennifer68 Hotel was satisfactory
The hotel was nice, but I booked through Starwood and it did not thave the Starwood tag on the door, like the rooms across from me. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. We stepped downstairs to have breakfast and the food was fine, but the service was slow. We were also disappointed that the upstairs bar was never open on a Saturday afternoon/evening. I would still recommend this hotel.

Rated 3 out of 5 Poor Food Quality and Serving Staff
I stay very often with SPG and will email my personal concierge for my upcoming bookings to not recommend your location. Twice during my stay errors your staff behalf were left to be my responsibility to deal with. For example, during our dinner meal, my significant other had her main dish be sub par, and at no time did the staff come and ask how our meal was. At the end, the staff came to remove the plates and asked why she had not really eaten her dish, she explained why. They offered a free desert while leaving the dish on the bill to be paid...and were unwilling to adjust.
Secondly at breakfast we had a voucher for free continental breakfast, so I inquired if we could pay the difference to upgrade to a hot breakfast, no problem was mentioned until I received my bill. It was not the difference between the two meals for around $8, but rather the full bill, and did not charge for an orange juice. Once again it was left to me deal with and pay the bill.
Really sub par experience that I have been accustom to with my stays with SPG. I know what I am saying when I am a lifetime Platinum member.
The only positive part of the stay was your counter staff when we checked in. He was very friendly. polite and assisting with directions and such. So thanks to him,.

Hotel is lovely , great views and in a good location within walking distance to downtown area.
Club room amenities good.
Unfortunately I would not stay again as we found the bed to be the most uncomfortable and a major disappointment as compared to other Sheraton's. I did share this with the front desk that our rooms mattress actually had a major depression in it and was very hard. i should have asked to have my room changed.

The hotel was walking distance to restaurants and to the freeway. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. We had breakfast on one of the mornings, and it was very good. Appreciated the complimentary bottle water (SPG Gold member) and the internet access.
The room was basically clean, but the drinking glasses had lipsticks on ALL of the glasses. Our room was the "captain's galley" location where the window overlooked the patio. The bad thing is when you open the window curtains, everyone can see you (second floor)!

Rated 3 out of 5 by RJS666 Rough weekend
The staff on duty were excellent, and deserve a big atta-boy for their efforts. The issue was under-staffing. For instance, the club lounge was un-staffed, and quickly became a mess even when guests tried to clean up after themselves.
The rooms are dated, especially the bathroom. Cracked sinks can easily be replaced; accordian doors can add a lot of space.
