Rated 4 out of 5 by Really Pleasant Journey We stayed in the Sheraton Hotel in Tribeca from 9th till 14th January 2013. The staff was really helpful and always worried about our comfort. There is everything you could expect in a hotel (Free Wi-Fi, Starbucks Coffee, Bar...). Too bad the internet connection is not free in our room... The place is very well located, as you can get a lot of trains (metro) on Canal Street (Metro 1/2/3/A/C/E/J/Q) something really enjoyable when you walk a lot to visit NYC and want to come back by trains to the hotel when you are tired ! There a lot of really nice restaurants close to the hotel. Moreoever, manhattan, Tribeca, Soho, Greenwich Village are also close to the hotel so you can go everywhere you want, really shortly. The only things we did not liked was the noise in the corridors. As we were on the 3rd floor, the HQ for elevator was close to our room and some employees forget that shouting in the corridors might be a disagreement for the customers. We tried to ask for a room in the highest floor to get a nice view, but did not get it... But these are just details ! We tested the room service as well, and it was perfect (even if the dinner was a bit too expansive). We would definitely recommend this hotel if you want to visit NYC ! January 15, 2013

Rated 1 out of 5 by Front desk needs training I stayed here back in October 2012 and had a great stay so decided to stay her for Mother's Day weekend. It was a bad mistake. My husband and I arrived from California at 7am and my husband was ill. I know that check in is at 4 pm but The front desk associate didn't attempt to accommodate us. She took our phone number and never called us when our room was ready. We came back to the hotel after 3 pm and she gave us a room with a king size bed and I had requested 2 doubles. We then had to go bak to the desk to get another room. She never acknowledged me as a starwood member and I had to call down to ask for the wifi, which never worked (i would like points credited instead, since I was unable to use it. My reservation was a combination of points for 2 nights and cash for the 3rd night and had ask the front desk associate to combine the reservation so I would not have to come back to the desk and she said she would but obviously did not....on Sunday evening while my husband and I were resting housekeeping kept knocking on the door asking when we were checking out. We was locked out of the room and had to re register before going to dinner. I have never experienced such poor service at any Starwood hotel and will not stay at this hotel again, even though it is conveniently located May 14, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Room #203 Room 203 is right next to the emergency stairwell. This is also one of rooms that has a balcony, was a very nice upgrade seeing I had my dog with me. HOWEVER, from approx 4am unitl 9am(on Sunday morning) the amount of traffic using the stairs was extremely high, AND "EVERY TIME" the door would close I would be woken up from either the closing bang of the door, or from people disrespectfully speaking loudly. What appeared to be a nice little room with a balcony ended up being the room of misery! Without exaggeration it was the door was slamming shut like every 3-5 minutes! What are all the people doing using the stairs at this time?!?! A new door closer or a new stairwell use policy needs to be implemented. I don't know how anybody could sleep through such situation. In my opinion the two rooms in this vicinity of the hotel are useless, who in the world could sleep through this?!?! It was clearly the worst night I've spent in a hotel in years! I would return, especially seeing it was somewhat affordable, and my dog was allowed, and I would certainly like to stay in one of these rooms with a balcony, buy not if i'm only gonna be able to get two hours of sleep! In the end, my evening in this room certainly made that slogan stand out, "the city that never sleeps", that was me on that Saturday-Sunday eve/morning! Too bad! January 14, 2013

The location of the hotel was great - an easy walk to downtown, great nearby restaurants, and a short walk to four subway stations, making it easy to get uptown quickly. The staff at the front desk were cheerful, competent, and always helpful. The room was fine, although I was expecting something larger - I used my suite nights upgrades, but rather than being a suite (I usually think of a suite having separate living and sleeping areas) it was simply a slightly larger toom. I probably would not have used my upgrades had I known this. The executive lounge was well-situated, but the food was pretty bad. In the morning the muffins were good, but the eggs, bacon, and sausage were appaling - and exactly the same every day. We finally ended up going out to breakfast at a local restaurant. Food in the evenings was different every day, but never good. The staff in the lounge were, with one exception, inattentive. In one case the person on duty spent her time in the back room eating and talking with a colleague rather than attending to guests. The coffee machine was out of milk 8 of the 10 times I tried to use it, and it never produced anything other than lukewarm coffee. The fitess center was ridiculous. There was decent cardio equipment, but dumbbells only up to 30 lbs (I thought all Sheratons had nice fitness centers). On multiple occasions there were no towels or water. In general I expect much more from a Sheraton. This was a big disappointment. October 7, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Bad Stay As a frequent guest of the SPG group worldwide I have become a bit sensitive about level acknowledgement and basic treatment. As I checked in on Saturday past I asked what kind of room would be given to me, since there was zero status recognition at the front desk. I was assured that I was getting the best room on hand...that basic (!) room just happened to be on the 9th floor, no view and exactly across from the elevators! As a platinum member I decided NOT to accept that room and went back to the front desk to hear that there were just "too many platinum members (!!!)" and no upgrades were possible. I enquired about a room away from the elevators and was made to to wait another 30 mins. (!) ,without as much as a complimentary drink or apology. I got another basic room, no. 1514. I checked on the net and saw that at least the patio rooms were available, but not offered! At that point I was upset enough to decide that this property would be added to my NYC-SPG blacklist! There was absolutely no reason for me to reconsider this hotel, save Corey the concierge and the lady that checked me out yesterday morning and seemed to care whether I had a good stay or not! To add on to this my wife realised that she had left her flat iron in the room, that had still not been given to lost and found. We called, spoke to Kevin and were informed that should it turn up, the shipping/mail cost to Harlem would be debited to my credit card on file....how helpful...cannot account for it, but ready to bill it! Rated 5 out of 5 by Best hotel staff ever At the end of the day (pun intended), the hotel business is about hospitality and that means people taking care of other people. I have traveled over 2 million miles and have never experienced the level of hospitality my wife and I enjoyed at this hotel. Every member of the staff radiates an enthusiasm for providing hospitality that is very hard to find today in a business that seems increasingly to treat guests like database entries and the work of taking care of them as a chore. What is especially unique about this hotel is that every member of the staff--from the maintenance personnel, to the housemaids, to the telephone staff, to the bus men, to the front desk staff--each and every one is at the top of their form, genuinely dedicated to providing exceptional hospitality. And they take great pride and enjoyment in delivering it. As with all organizations, this top performance must be the result of leadership. And here it certainly is. We were personally taken care of by the hotel's general manager, who greeted us every day and took real personal interest in ensuring that all of our needs were met. More importantly perhaps, he not only took great care of us; he also clearly cares deeply about every member of his staff. As we were leaving, he arrived on what appeared to be his day off--in casual clothes--and said hello to every member of his staff on duty and greeted what seemed like half the guests in the lobby by name. I have great respect for true excellence because it is both extremely rare and difficult to achieve. This is a hotel team that sets a standard by which all other hotels should be measured. Rated 2 out of 5 by Just O.K.-Disappointed I stayed here with my child the week in between Christmas and New Year.It is very dark if you do not have the blinds open.The closet is so dark you cannot see to get dressed.They open from the opposite side of room .Terrible design because if you open the blinds and you are on the canal st. side people in the buildings can see right in.You have to turn on the light to see in the bathroom the noisy fan goes on too.The rooms are teeny.I asked for a luggage rack three times and no one ever responded back to me.So i took a piece of furniture out from under the desk and put my luggage on top of that.I am an spg member and and stayed on many points.I was surprised at how average the service was.The girl who checked me in was very nice and so were others that worked in the club lounge and front desk.This seems to be the bright spot of our stay.The elevator key thing is maddening.Once my teen forgot her key and then had to go to the lobby and get another one so my teen could go back to the room to get the key and was grilled by the front desk person.This key to go up and down is a testament at how bad the area is.The club lounge is nice but you have to pay extra.There is a great view from there of the empire state bldg.However the outside deck needs some flowers or lighting to make it comfortable to take in the view.The house cleaning person left me a nice note and I was going to leave her a tip.When I went to check out however,she said I drank two of the five dollar water!Which I did not and so check your bill.Then I had to spend time waiting to ask them to remove the charge.The walls are also paper thin.I was laughing at watching Jimmy Fallon on a friday night at around 1 a.m.(I was on a different time zone) and the person next to me hammered on the wall.The same respect was apparently lost on him when he loudly spoke on the phone at 6:30 a.m.and made his child cry.The beds are comfortable I will say that. Rated 2 out of 5 by Very nice staff, but I need staff who can also manage a hotel. The staff are all very nice. However, more than "nice staff" is required to have a good hotel stay. The elevators were in dire need of attention - you'll get in the elevator and spend 10 minutes re-entering your key into the security slot until finally the elevator will register that you've entered your key and you'd like to go to a floor. This gets old real fast. Once in your room, the TV has no channel guide so you have no idea what is on TV. When I called guest services to see if maybe I just didn't know how to use the remote control, I was told, "Yea, I know there's no TV guide - it bothers me too, but we've never had one. And if you want to use the channel list in your room to at least know which channels are which, make sure to add 4 to each channel number - we added 4 channels a while ago and didn't update the guide." Uh, ok, good to know. You'll also notice that the air conditioner can be set all the way down to 60 degrees, but in actuality the lowest temperature it will reach is 71 - I have a temperature gauge with me - even with it going all night. The air conditioner will also blow on you all night due to the layout of the room. Further, I took 2 luke warm showers in 2 days because the water heater isn't turned up enough. Oh, and whatever you do, don't take a room upgrade if you're offered one. I was given a suite, which I appreciate. But all suites are on the lower levels and it is LOUD with all of the NYC noise - mine was on the 3rd floor- even though the staff promised "this is a very quiet room." I moved after 1 night to the 10th floor and it was better. I was emailed halfway through my stay to ask how it was going; I responded that I was having problems and never received a response. This is not how management should interact with customers. Always respond to guest emails, even if the issue has been resolved and you're only following up to say, "I hope your issue is resolved and I'm sorry it occurred." There wasn't much I liked, but I did enjoy the club lounge. The food was pretty good - breakfast and dinner - and the outside patio is nice with a great view of the NYC skyline. Just look forward to battling the elevators to get up there. Also, the valet guys were great and went the extra distance to get me a cab in the rain two mornings in a row. Overall though, there are better choices in NYC at this price point. August 14, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Neighborhood location/not touristy I have stayed in a lot of Starwood properties, including many in NY. Every member of the staff was very nice. The cleaning staff was terrific. I was there for multiple nights. I hate it when I move everything into a pile to have it out of my way and the cleaning staff feels they have to move it all back. That didn't happen here. The man who cleaned my room was Alex. I only know this because he hand wrote a nice welcome note after my first night there. He replaced what needed to be replaced and left what I wanted them to leave. I have never understood why some hotels change your sheets every night even though I didn't put the card out. It was beastly hot in NY when I was there and the AC worked great in spite of my window facing into the sun. By NY standards, both the sleeping area and the bathroom were spacious. There is not a lot of closet/dresser space for two. I was fine alone. It was very clean with no bed bugs. I usually stay mid town to up town. This was a change of pace and I really liked it. It is a neighborhood location, not a tourist location. That was fun. it was perfectly safe though some may find the busy foreign street vendors on Canal intimidating. I enjoyed them. You are blocks from multiple subway stops, though I also love to walk around New York. The view was of a NY neighborhood, not the Empire State building, etc...I was fine with that, but just know that in case you expect the tourist skyline. My big gripe which drops this to a 4 was the bar. (I am giving it a 4 in comparison to other chain hotels, not in comparison to the Plaza or the Palace Hotels. On a Plaza/Palace scale of a 5, i would give this a 3.) The bar tender was great. Friendly, attentive without being pushy, helpful with advice. The restaurant is only open for breakfast. I didn't eat there. You can eat at the bar (they call it the lounge). The food was really good for a chain hotel. The gripe was that I stayed at the end of the month. In stead of restocking the bar when needed, they have a monthly budget and they were out of my first 5, yes 5, choices. This is a very short sighted policy and I hope they reconsider it. It was so hot, I decided not to pay up for the club floor as I didn't think I would take advantage of their roof deck. If it was nice, I would try it. Some Starwood hotels give gold members club access if on another floor. This one does not. There are plenty of NY Times in the lobby. A few tips: 1) If you have time, walk across the Brooklyn bridge which is minutes from the hotel. It only takes 25 minutes to walk it/45 if you read the historical signs. The view of the city on the way back is almost spiritual. Bring water if it's hot. When you get to Brooklyn, take the stairs down on the left. At the bottom, turn right and walk about a block for a tree and bench filled park to cool off and rest a bit. 2) for $50 all inclusive you can order a car to the airport. It is about $15 more than a cab and I found it well worth it. 3) talk to the bar tender, concierge and doormen. They were all helpful and kind. Over all I would go back, unless it is at the end of the month! July 1, 2012

My boyfriend and I come into The City once a month or so to spend a fun relaxing weekend as my job keeps us out in beautiful but otherwise quiet Eastern Long Island. For this February excursion which doubled as a Valentine get away and best friend birthday bar gathering in the Grammercy/East Village area, we decided to try staying in a hotel closer to the Villages. A coworker pointed me to the TriBeCa Sheraton and the medium price point fit. Besides I thought the proximity to SoHo would provide a good option for exploring the flagship clothing and boutique stores in the cast iron facade warehouse shopping district. I arrived dropped of my partner and the surprise birthday cake at the bar and easily made my way to the Canal Street location. I was told in advance that valet parking would be $50/ night, however when I arrived was informed that my car was considered an SUV and would be $60). Regardless I was quickly parked, unloaded, checked in, and whisked up to my room by the friendly and energetic staff. (It's amazing what a few dollars in tip money does.) I came down after a quick change out of my work clothes into a more black urban armor, freshen up, and jumped on the uptown R, not having to slow down to purchase a metro card as I still had my metro card from coming into town for work earlier... I got over to the birthday party luckily before the guest of honor! After the party had run it's course and with martinis coursing though our veins we left to walk back to the hotel, but pulling our scarves tighter did not protect us enough from the wind's chill so we grabbed a quick cab ride back to the hotel. My partner is a design professional and I always wait for his take on spaces. As I had booked this Sheraton stay I was, of course, waiting for his read. It being post bar he however was hungry so we fell into a bodega next door first. When we did go up he remarked favorably on the lobby, spoke of the lobby lighting, and touched the wood wrapped columns as we walked through... In the room I had left the lighting on- as inviting and dramatic as I could. I had also pulled back all the curtains to maximize the single expanse of floor to ceiling windows. The view of TriBeCa toward the Holland Tunnel was a welcoming site. The bedding was inviting and the bathroom offered a compact but well done space to relax. Our first nite spent south of Midtown was perfectly spent falling asleep in each others arms happily overlooking the hustle and bustle (still at 2:am or so) of TriBeCa from 20 stories up. It set us up for dreams of escapades planned the next day... [Our design comments: 1) The lighting architecture in the entry lobby was at 100% light lumen level across the board and the room was awash in one level of lighting: clinical with no drama. 2) The double set of automatic doors that serve as an airlock were too close and provide little barrier to front lobby seating. 3) The wall behind the check in/out command center had lacked warmth or contrast. 4) The lighting fixture in the Starwood Preferred Lounge on the 21st floor was hung a good 6" too low... This clearly affected the comfort of even short guests that we observed eating under it. 5) The open service door to this private lounge and the vacuum left in room detracted from the sense of comfort provided by this otherwise wonderful preferential treatment. 6) the rooftop garden/deck had been put to "sleep for the season, rather poorly. detracting from what should have been a wonderful viewing perch even in the grey days of winter. 7) We very much enjoyed the hint if a table affixed to the hallway walls, that helped dress up an otherwise utilitarian space. 8) Bravo on the glass shower enclosure, the shower flooring/drain, rain shower head, and double doors to the bathrooms.
