the staffs were very responsive. had problems with the a/c and save deposit box. The front desk staff managed to get them rectified. concierge is excellent too. managed to book our tickets to Mirage and river cruise and advices us on time to get there.

Ok, I did say I would recommend the hotel, but that is mostly because there isn't much else and the location is good. The hotel in general is not bad, it is just dated and needs refreshing.
The staff is genuinely caring, although a little low on experience, but that is expected even in tier 1 cities in China, let alone in a small town like Guilin.
Overall, not too bad, just needs renovation.
The breakfast buffet is not that good and the Chinese restaurant lunch buffet is also poor. Eat elsewhere.

Well located property, offering comfortable rooms. In our experience (mid-March), the Air Conditioning in the rooms did not seem to be fully functional; we could not get the room temperature below 23c.
However, our room did have a window which opened which was helpful.
Great breakfast buffet.

The staffs are very friendly. But need to improve the breakfast quality.
Air Conditioning in bedroom is a bit noise.
But I can see they are doing their best.
The bell man is not friendly somehow.
Good hotel to stay in Guilin.

It is shame after spending a lovely night that we were confronted with breakfast chous. No one in charge, service exceptionally poor and food cold - otherwise it was fine .

Overall the hotel stay was a good experience. The staff were attentive, courteous and tried their best to accommodate to requests.
Great location which is beside streets of bars and restauants which attract many locals and tourists.
The lounge bar has a relatively relaxing ambience and has live music.
It would be great if breakfast spread can be improved.
Thanks to the staff for making our stay a comfortable one in Guilin.

I have been staying here about twice a year for the past 2-3 years and it is a great place to stay.
The staff are always nice and the bedrooms are comfortable.
The only downside is the noise if you are in a room on top of the lobby restaurant.
On my last stay, they had
Coke Zero in the minibar! Very rare to see in Asia and more hotels should stock it.

the locaction,the food, the staff, the management, the service and quality.........excellent.
Been there three times now and had on the last visit a conference with over 50 people. The conference went great..thanks to the attention and help we got from everyone.

My mother and I visited China for the first time earlier this month and one of our stops was Guilin. A nice place indeed. We had a short stay at Sheraton Guilin (Mar 11-12). We arrived after 8pm so of course the only thing available to eat was the cafe on the second floor. We were a little disappointed because they didn't have the greatest food selections on the menu and the buffet was closed. We ended up eating burgers and fries. The meal was great it's just that we had been use to chinese cuisines during our whole trip. I mean we were in China right! We booked a club room but we didn't have access to the club lounge due to renovation. Well that's not the most important thing to me when it comes to our hotel stay in Guilin. What meant the most is we were welcomed by the wonderful staff at the door to help us with our bags and at the front desk to help us checkin, and our room was clean and fresh smelling with a super comfortable. A mini chocolate and fresh fruit platter was placed on the table for us to enjoy. What a special touch! During breakfast, we had the opportunity to speak with one of the sous chefs who was from the Philippines. She was very friendly and made sure that we were informed on what we were eating. Her English was phenomenal. The dim sum was delicious. I loved the selection of chinese and western breakfast foods.

Good: Beautiful facilities, excellent restaurant and food, good service.
Bad: Rooms very humid, staff and concierge seem to push certain vendors and events. There almost seems to be a kickback-like program in place for these individuals.

This hotel was wonderful except the in room thermostat seemed more for decoration than function. It had no impact on the room temperature. Despite being set to cool the room kept getting hotter.

OVERALL IMPRESSION: I can imagine that when this hotel opened 25-30 years ago it was an absolute wonder of Capitalist gewgaw with it’s dramatic atrium design but the time has definitely come for a remodel. Having said that, there don’t seem to be many other Western-style options available.
SPG RECOGNITION: Upgraded to a suite. Access to the Sheraton Club. Platinum amenity breakfast is full buffet in the Mezzanine restaurant. Fruit basket in-room amenity.
THE ROOM: Shotgun-style with windowless living room. Unattractive view from the bedroom. Very dated Sheraton utilitarian style in serious need of a make-over.
LOCATION: Very much the center of Guilin social life with events in the Atrium (including very colorful wedding celebrations) at all hours. Convenient for touring as all tours start beside the hotel. Around the corner and behind is the principal pedestrian shopping district. The Li River runs in front of the hotel.
EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS: Although the presentation and offerings of the Sheraton Club - really just an alcove off of the roof-top Italian restaurant - were not notable, the young ladies who attended the desk were extremely gracious and anxious to please us despite virtually no English skills. Their smiles and gestures were enough to endear them to us.
DID NOT MEET EXPECTATIONS: The breakfast buffet - while copious - was put out very early in the morning and then left to macerate for hours. It did not inspire for freshness, presentation or quality.
ONE THING TO KNOW: All along the river road are (legit) massage parlors where you can get a decent Chinese massage or foot reflexology for virtually pennies.

Signs for no smoking are conspicously posted in the lobby but the policy is not being enforced by the hotel staff.

My family stayed at the Sheraton Guilin and were generally pleased with it, but a few disappointments would make us think twice about booking there again. The interior and rooms are fantastic, but the outside (particularly around the pool area) felt very neglected- cracks in the walls and peeling paint just left a bad impression.
I called SPG to request a club room and was told that I could have one for 1500 more points and that it would include breakfast for all the guests in the room; when I arrived they said none were available other than for cash upgrades. The on duty manager was friendly & helpful and was able to give me a club room the next day (including breakfast) for 1500 points, but said that the children would be charged the full child's rate (RMB65+15% service charge= $12.21). This felt like a cheap shot after already redeeming more points specifically to get breakfast. Honestly, how much does a 6 year old eat? A RMB8 meal at McDonald's fills them up. Most hotels let kids eat free with their parents, but we had no choice so we paid it. The breakfast buffet was good, but not great. I enjoyed it, but if I were to do it again, I'd skip the whole ordeal and just grab a local breakfast and save my points.
The club lounge was great; we appreciated the snacks and board games. Some of the staff wasn't properly trained and told us the games were only for sale and that cookies were only available during happy hour (despite being a listed benefits for the club lounge between 7am and 11pm). The outdoor seating area was wonderful and the staff were all extremely friendly and helpful, though admittedly some were undertrained.
Our checkout took a while because they were wanting to charge us an extra RMB64 ($10.46) for the city's bed tax (listed on the bill as a vague "Foundation Fund") despite my SPG reservation specifically stating that the tax was already included in the rate. Eventually they took it off, but not without wrangling for 15 minutes.
