Rated 3 out of 5 by Business travelers hotel As a local Chicagoan We did not love our stay here. The responsiveness for housekeeping service or maintenance is very slow. We had a shower that didn't properly drain within an hour of checking in we called. They gave us a $100 credit for the inconvenience but never sent anyone up to unclog the tub. We finally called 24 hours later and waited over an hour for someone to come up. The waiting time for cabs is inconvenient. There is no cab line. The bellman was ringing his whistles but the location of the hotel doesn't provide for cabbies to hear him as we couldn't see any nearby. We ended up walking everywhere as a result. If you are using a taxi for the airport you could wait 30 minutes for a taxi. This hotel is huge, the workout facility and views are great. Its close to navy pier and you can walk to Michigan Avenue. Its very bustling and the restaurants are good. July 28, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Repeat Guests This was our thrid stay with this Sheraton and we had a great experience! Great location, comfy room with a wonderful view and as always the staff was a pleasure to deal with. We bring our dogs often and this is now our go-to hotel for Chicago stays, very dog friendly hotel and we will be staying here exclusively from now on!! Thanks! July 29, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Okay Hotel was ok. There is construction going on at the front entrance area. The park across the street has a good amount of homeless people. I've stayed at the Sheraton in Carlsbad, which was much nicer and better maintained. Our room had not been used in a while. The desk and counters were dusty. The shower tile grout was black. The shower rod is rusted as well. The entrance light was not working and the toilet bowl was dirty. When I checked out I was asked if I lifted any of the refreshments. My husband and I both said no. He asked again if we were sure and I said no again. He asked again and I said maybe my son lifted a soda and he said "that's exactly what I'm asking if it was lifted, I'm not accusing you of drinking it." He said it in a rude way. When I was in the plane I looked at my check out bill and we were charged $6.50 for pringles chips. We didn't eat them or drink any of the refreshments. The gym was great. The pool was ok. I don't think the pool area is cleaned as frequently as it should be. Probably only at the end of the day. There were towels everywhere and the furniture was everywhere. July 30, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Support staff undoes the quality of service the unresponsiveness of the accounting department to my inquiries for payment led to other issues with check in and check out. When checking out, even though accounts were paid in full, members of my delegation were assessed a credit charge against their account. I would hope that this is an anomaly in your customer service but it is a fact that remains not becoming of an organization that is specifically about customer service. July 27, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great view of Chicago River First room that we were assigned did not have a good view. Contacted staff and they immediately gave us another room with a beautiful view of lake and the river. Loved watching boats up and down the river. Also loved being right on the river walk and so close to Michigan avenue. July 28, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by still owed money i stayed for 3 nights over july 4th weekend, put a credit card down and a 150 cash deposit, didn't spend it all and I'm still owed 34 dollars, no one has returned a call in 4 weeks, I've called at least twice a week and get no response at all, our bill had items on it from the mini bar in the room that we never even touched, will never ever stay at a Sheraton as long as I live!! July 27, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by This hotel lacks the Extras Amenities were spartan. Complimentary toiletries were almost non-existent. There was no shower gel, the soap did not lather. There was no shower cap, bathrobe. AND a can of coke from the mini bar was $6.65. The bed was very comfortable. Internet was included. July 28, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Surprised/disappointed by a couple of easy-to-fix issues. 1) Bathroom had large amounts of hair/hair balls on floor from previous guest. 2) Requested iPod player for the room 3x over 12 hours and it was never delivered. Was told by desk that, "staff was real busy with a lot of requests." Bad answer. July 28, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Notes We had 4 people in the room and there were only 2 towels. We called and asked for towels to be brought to the room, but they were not. The burger place outside on the river was AWESOME - you need to publicize that more. LOVED IT! July 28, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Newly updated excellent hotel Stayed in this hotel over 20 years ago when it first opened, and it has been upgraded to like new condition. July 29, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Bistro Breakfast Buffet My experience was acceptable. Excellent environment for a conference. The price I paid was high since I did not get the discounted room rate for attendees. Nice that I got a complimentary breakfast. The staff at the Bistro was more interested in making sure that the 18% gratiuity was added onto the bill, even though all I received was the buffet which is not usually a situation where tipping should be applied. The staff member I asked over the phone where to get the breakfast first directed me to the Club, and then I had to call back to find out I needed to go to the Bistro. Overall, not the best but okay. Rated 4 out of 5 by A little bit to big Nice gotel, cool rooms but it is to big. Really. I got lost hahaha If you are a business traveler - you will likt this place. Nice lounge and comfy rooms. July 4, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Mostly good, with some exceptions The hotel itself was pretty good, although my air conditioning in my room did not work very well. Also, upon check-in, although I personally had called, the reservation wound up under my coworkers name and they would not allow me in until my coworker called. She called, and then I was told she didn't call, even though she personally was on the phone with me and said she called and even provided the name of the person she spoke with. This was inconvenient and the desk clerk was rude about it. Also, the elevators in the morning were absurdly slow and packed, and stopped on basically every floor even though they were already full. Finally, the wrong SPG number was put on the account- this still hasn't been corrected. July 17, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good - not terrifc I would rate this hotel "good" for overall feel and decor. Our room, however, had a strange layout in that to go to one side of the bed you had to maneuver between the foot of the bed and the corner of an interior structure/column. If you forgot this feature, getting up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom could result in an accident. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. One irritant was that the tub didn't drain well and while showering you were standing in ankle deep water. Finally, my bill included every item on the snack tray - I didn't, however, eat or take any of the items available. I did pick them up to read the label, etc. and apparently they are electronically monitored. Beware - inspect your charges. I called customer service and the charges were rescinded. July 21, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by NOT a business hotel Good location and above average rooms with great view of the Chicago River. Does not have proper safes that can hold a laptop in "recently refurbished" room which is remarkable in this day and age for a hotel that is aimed at the business traveler. One day my room was not made up by 2 PM despite a request to have it made up at 730 AM. Spoke to General Manager who apologized, promised to look into it and asked to call him if I have any other problems. Two days, later had the identical problem. Called the General Manager and left a message which was never returned despite my calling again 2 days later. June 26, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good hotel experience I would recommend this hotel, but I would also recommend a couple of adjustments. I found the hotel to be universally too cold. I was able to successfully adjust the temperature in my room, but all of the common areas were freezing. Also, they need to look at carpet maintenance as there was a huge stain outside my door that needed attention. July 24, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by This hotel had excellent service I stayed at this hotel for a conference that was being held in the hotel. The hotel was very clean and very nice. It definitely met my expectations. Service was absolutely outstanding! I would highly recommend anyone to stay here and the view over the river was beautiful. July 24, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Amazing Weekend I wanted to thank the staff at the Sheraton Downtown Chicago for a wonderful girls weekend. They meet all my expectations and I am so happy to share this great experience with the rest of my 17 friends who also stayed at the hotel. I would like to give a special thanks to Rick Ueno for making this all possible as well as Brian Hutchins & Joyce Clark. I know my cousin also worked with other management staff as well and they were just as wonderful. July 21, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great views and access to city. This is the second time we have stayed here for the Noel-Levitz Conference. It is a great conference location. The meeting rooms are easy to navigate. Sometimes the back hall rooms get a bit warm. The variety of restaurants is just right. The woman who checked me in honored my request to find me a room with a great view - even though I had to wait. Loved the view of the river and Trump Tower! July 22, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Well priced for a good facility, great location and comfortable bed. Well priced for a good facility, great location, excellent restaurant, and comfortable bed. July 25, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Very, Very Disappointed I will itemize the elements which encompass the ratings: 1. As a National Officer for the American Postal Workers Union I arrived for a 10 night stay on 7-16. I was informed I would have to vacate my suite (Rooms 1633, 1637 & 1639) on 7-25 for a new arrival and stay in a lesser room (2850) on the last night of my stay. This necessitated my packing and unpacking at the end of my stay and moving. As I was the first guest - and reservation - in the Suite the following guest should have been required to begin his/her stay in another room and then - upon my check-out - have occupied the suite. I still had important business at my National Convention on Friday which did not afford me adequate time to pack, unpack and ready myself for Friday. 2. The bedroom with the King Bed attached to my Suite had a constant cooling fan on in the closet which was clearly audible during the stay and - particularly - when trying to sleep. This, I was told, is part of the hotel's fiber optic cables cooling system. It prevented a restful sleep for the 9 nights I was in the suite. The other bedroom did not have a king bed. 3. Each night as I got into the bed I discovered the bottom sheet was short - not covering the mattress. No fitted or large-enough sheets were used in either the suite or 2850. 4. The suite sheets were only changed for clean sheets three times during the stay. 5. I requested turn-down service on the first day and did not receive same. I then requested it for the remainder of the stay and was assured this would occur. It did occur - three times out of the next 9 nights. 6. When turn-down service did occur, twice soiled towels were not replaced. 7. Upon my move to 2850 on 7-25 I contacted the operator to inform her that there were dozens of dirty dishes, glasses, trays, paper, etc. throughout the hall leading from past my room to the elevators. I also mentioned this to a staffer in the elevator at 7pm on my way to Geno's for dinner. When I returned at approximately midnight the mess completely remained. 8. Upon check-out I was given a copy of my bill / invoice - but not the complete bill. The bill / invoice I received reflected a laundry charge of $16.34. I believed this was the discounted charge due to a stain on one of my shirts which was not there before pressing. When I arrived home I discovered an email invoice with an additional $94.00 charge for the shirts - all - I originally had pressed. When I called down to have the shirts pressed on 7-16 I said I did not want to pay the extra 50% for overnight service and was assured that, while they would be picked up that night, they would not be returned until the next afternoon so no overnight service would occur or be charged. I do not know exactly when they were returned as they were in my room on Thursday the 17th when I returned from meetings in the late afternoon. My laundry receipt says $64.00 on it. As I stated, I believed due to the stain the $64.00 was reduced to the $16.34. In reality I was improperly charged $94.00 PLUS the $16.34 for a total charge of $110.34 instead of the $64.00 MINUS whatever the charge for the shirt which was stained by the laundry service to be redone. Incidentally, the stain, while smaller, remains. All, in all, the stay was most unsatisfactory as you can see by the plethora of mishaps and failings. July 28, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good but a little need of extra service touch No room service menu in the room called down to request one and never received it. Food at the conference was ok. Breakfast sandwiches very dry and reception food at the link Salmon burgers again very dry. Not overly impressed with the food, July 24, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Kris K Very nice property in great location July 25, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice stay, great location, but busy on the weekend Our stay was enjoyable. We stayed in Club Level rooms and unfortunately on the weekend days the Club Lounge was overly crowded. We had to wait 30 minutes before we could be seated and because of so many people the food and drinks ran out very quickly. On the weekdays the Club Lounge was not crowded. July 23, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 Excellent Stay Awesome stay! In December 2012, my friends and I had a disppointing stay at this property. The front desk manager asked us to give the propety another chance, which we did; and boy am I gald we did! We had a wonderful stay; 2 of our 4 rooms had a great view of the St. Patty's day dyeing of the Chicago River green. What a fun day, and the prime location to boot! While the hotel was very busy with St. Patty's day and the Big-10, the staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was going good. Rene' in the club lounge and Brian at the front desk, went above and beyond adding a very personal touch to make the stay above and beyond all expectations. We also had a wonderful meal at the steak house in the hotel; best steak I have ever had in a hotel property. The only minor issue, and it was very minor, was that housekeeping did not replace soaps and shampoo's on the seond day; had enough to get by, but normally they are restocked each day. March 18, 2013
