I stayed here with my child the week in between Christmas and New Year.It is very dark if you do not have the blinds open. The closet is so dark you cannot see to get dressed. They open from the opposite side of room .Terrible design because if you open the blinds and you are on the canal st. side people in the buildings can see right in.You have to turn on the light to see in the bathroom the noisy fan goes on too.The rooms are teeny.I asked for a luggage rack three times and no one ever responded back to me.So i took a piece of furniture out from under the desk and put my luggage on top of that.I am an spg member and and stayed on many points.I was surprised at how average the service was.The girl who checked me in was very nice and so were others that worked in the club lounge and front desk. This seems to be the bright spot of our stay. The elevator key thing is maddening.Once my teen forgot her key and then had to go to the lobby and get another one so my teen could go back to the room to get the key and was grilled by the front desk person. This key to go up and down is a testament at how bad the area is.The club lounge is nice but you have to pay extra. There is a great view from there of the empire state bldg. However the outside deck needs some flowers or lighting to make it comfortable to take in the view. The house cleaning person left me a nice note and I was going to leave her a tip. When I went to check out however, she said I drank two of the five dollar water!Which I did not and so check your bill. Then I had to spend time waiting to ask them to remove the charge. The walls are also paper thin.I was laughing at watching Jimmy Fallon on a friday night at around 1 a.m.(I was on a different time zone) and the person next to me hammered on the wall. The same respect was apparently lost on him when he loudly spoke on the phone at 6:30 a.m.and made his child cry.The beds are comfortable I will say that.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Tyler13 This hotel's staff fails under pressure
While overwhelmed with an influx of visitors to NYC and a full hotel, it does not excuse the unprofessional response received when attempting to get information from the front desk. For someone who travels frequently, I would expect my Starwood Experience to be the same from stay to stay and in this case it most certainly was not.

Great location for restaurants and shopping in Soho, nevertheless we will not choose this Sheraton ever again. We like to go with kids to NYC, once per year min, we always stay in SPG chain, being Platinum for 10 years we have had so far more or less very good experiences. Sheraton Tribeca was huge disappointment in many regards.
- our credit cards were authorized during check in, again during check out and again charged 3 days after check out; every time for full amount of cca 950$, total slightly above 2.000 $ for invoice of 880 USD. I found about that misusage of our credit cards by hotel as my European bank called me to check if we were stolen the cards due to multiple charges from the same place.
- we are waiting to see what will be charged at the end
- already during check in I wanted to give a deposit of 1000$ Instead of credit card which was rejected as non acceptable in USA
- the rates in invoice were different than in my SPG confirmation sheet. Higher, of course. Without a confirmation on rate I would not manage to get what I booked. Comment of MANAGER during check in was that he had never seen this strange SPG paper.
- The internet in room was charged.
- one of two rooms we got was probably the smallest in hotel, cca 20 m2 although we had confirmation for 27 m2.
What upsets me utmost is that nor guest service management, neither assistant to GM has replied to my e mails and remainders.
For sure we will not choose this hotel ever again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Dan140 Below expectations
Though I didn't arrive until 11pm, I ended up with one of their worst possible rooms. It was handicap accessible room directly outside the noisy elevators. It was late and I simply asked for a different room the following night and nobody ever got back to me. As a SPG Gold member, I stay at Starwood properties frequently and usually get much better service. The room was poorly cleaned the following day (missing towels, toilet paper and remaining trash). The gym is fairly pathetic and filthy. I was able to catch an earlier flight and leave a day early and when I checked out at noon, they charged me for an extra night even though the cancellation policy was same day at 6pm. I plan to call Starwood and try to get a refund and complain about their manager who told me that he would email me to followup but I have yet to receive an email from him.
On the positive side, there is a great juice bar next door and $1 pizza slices across the street.

The Hotel offered me a car service to JFK Airport. The car arrived a little late. When already in the car, the driver pulled over and told us that we needed to move to another car, that he had been called for a different service. After 15 minutes of waiting and no satisfactory explanation, I called the hotel. They spoke to the driver and not even there they get us back in the car. A new car was promised. I tried to call back to the hotel and nobody picked up the phone. Finally I took a street cab. A complete disaster.

Staff does not meet this guest expectations. This hotel does not seem to care that a guest is a platinum member. Also, was unable to reach general manager to communicate my dissatisfaction with the room size.

I stayed here back in October 2012 and had a great stay so decided to stay her for Mother's Day weekend. It was a bad mistake. My husband and I arrived from California at 7am and my husband was ill. I know that check in is at 4 pm but The front desk associate didn't attempt to accommodate us. She took our phone number and never called us when our room was ready. We came back to the hotel after 3 pm and she gave us a room with a king size bed and I had requested 2 doubles. We then had to go bak to the desk to get another room. She never acknowledged me as a starwood member and I had to call down to ask for the wifi, which never worked (i would like points credited instead, since I was unable to use it. My reservation was a combination of points for 2 nights and cash for the 3rd night and had ask the front desk associate to combine the reservation so I would not have to come back to the desk and she said she would but obviously did not....on Sunday evening while my husband and I were resting housekeeping kept knocking on the door asking when we were checking out. We was locked out of the room and had to re register before going to dinner. I have never experienced such poor service at any Starwood hotel and will not stay at this hotel again, even though it is conveniently located

My first time at this hotel. "Upgraded" to a room right next to the elevator. Didn't sleep a wink. Told the front desk at check-out. "Sorry, I'll tell the manager." No compensation, nada.
Stay away from this hotel if you expect anything extra for being a loyal SPG and frequent business traveler.

Against my better judgement I stayed at this hotel again on the assurance that the service would be improved.
It was worse. I stayed here for almost 3 weeks on business and I had to complain, call downstairs on an almost dialy basis to rectify issues.
I'm sure it sin't so bad if you're only staying a handful of nights, but when the same issues reappear almost daily / every few days and never improve. Well, you know it has poor management.

As a frequent guest of the SPG group worldwide I have become a bit sensitive about level acknowledgement and basic treatment. As I checked in on Saturday past I asked what kind of room would be given to me, since there was zero status recognition at the front desk. I was assured that I was getting the best room on hand...that basic (!) room just happened to be on the 9th floor, no view and exactly across from the elevators! As a platinum member I decided NOT to accept that room and went back to the front desk to hear that there were just "too many platinum members (!!!)" and no upgrades were possible. I enquired about a room away from the elevators and was made to to wait another 30 mins. (!) ,without as much as a complimentary drink or apology. I got another basic room, no. 1514. I checked on the net and saw that at least the patio rooms were available, but not offered! At that point I was upset enough to decide that this property would be added to my NYC-SPG blacklist! There was absolutely no reason for me to reconsider this hotel, save Corey the concierge and the lady that checked me out yesterday morning and seemed to care whether I had a good stay or not! To add on to this my wife realised that she had left her flat iron in the room, that had still not been given to lost and found. We called, spoke to Kevin and were informed that should it turn up, the shipping/mail cost to Harlem would be debited to my credit card on file....how helpful...cannot account for it, but ready to bill it!

I would like to express my deep dissatisfaction with this property. I am SPG Platinum and have stayed here several times. Due to weather and a flight cancellation, I had to cancel my stay and the hotel INSISTS on charging me for my room - despite calling them hours in advance. I will go out of my way to not stay here and will make sure to tell my friends and social network contacts to avoid this property as well.

As a longtime loyal SPG member I would expect to given a better room than one on i was given on this stay. The cardboard thin walls did nothing to soften the clanging noise of the elevator whizzing by starting at about 4am. I got about 3 and a half hours of sleep. It was too late to ask for a new room by the time a realized the situation. This is not the first time that I have been given noisey and poorly located rooms. I think SPG needs to re-evaluate their level of courtesy to SPG members in room assignments. I am begining to reconsider the value of my membership.

When we arrived the front desk staff was too busy yelling at another customer to even acknowledge us. we did not even get a "good evening". The staff managed to make me feel uncomfortable, as if I was disturbing. Room smelled like cigarette or dust, couldn't tell, but for someone with allergies it was terrible. Never again.

Very expensive for what it was - $500pn in a shoe box. Room 2103 was right next to service door. Staff went in and out at all times of day and night and door slammed waking us up. Advised staff but little they could do as hotel was full. Facilities in room only large enough for 1 person - space for suitcases, hanging/cupboards etc. Staff were friendly and helpful but little they could do. I have never felt more ripped off in life.

When I leave the hotel my balance was already paid, but a few days later I received my credit card balance and realize they charged me without my authorization additional $65. I have been trying to get a refund and it has been impossible. Every time I contact them, they commit to contact me back with a solution and I just have not hear from them. Whatch out, dont open a boucher at check in because they may charge you something else when you leave. They charged me valet fees and I have never drive in NY.

Rated 1 out of 5 by PlatinumBlonde Very Disappointing!!!
I am a loyal SPG Platinum and I never chose to write negative reviews, however I feel it necessary to write this review as a forwarning to others looking to stay here. I had a scheduled trip into the city and due to a family emergency could not make the trip.
Rather than being understanding, the hotel instead chose to charge me for the room - their excuse was that they could not sell the room - however one of the front desk people confimed that they were sold out.
So like a previous reviewer - I was dinged for a room I did not take and they received double compensation for the room
This is a terrible way to treat Platinums. I am personally very dissappointed in this customer service and DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL

Rated 1 out of 5 by starwoodgold okay location, poor customer service and bad quality
I stayed at that hotel about 3 weeks. First stay was okay, lack of room comfort was offset by pleasant customer service of the front desk supervisor, who checked me in and was very accommodating.
First impressions are deceiving:
1. Customer service:
Horrible, unless you are talking to the gentlemen, who is I believe front desk supervisor.
2. Room quality - very poor. You hear every noise in the hall, i stayed in corner rooms and still it was very noisy. If you stay below 9-10th floor, good luck falling asleep as it is very loud from constantly busy Canal str.
3. Location – makes you feel like you are in a 3rd world country the moment you get out of the hotel you are faced with fake purse and watch sellers. The nice part of the location is if you work out of financial district, it is close by.
4. Amenities – Restaurant staff is nice and friendly, food is okay. Gym is horrible. It smells very bad with concentrated cleaning supplies.
Bottom line, this hotel feels like a cheap hostel, rather than 200-300 / night, even for NYC prices.
