Rated 2 out of 5 by Too crowded - disappointed This hotel is a great location, but we won't stay here again. It is extremely crowded and we had a few problems. First being, housekeeping threw away a special bandage my husband had for his toe. It was nowhere near a trash container. Management did offer to send him to a doctor, but who wants to deal with that on vacation. Second was the pool. It was a race in the morning to get a lounge chair. If you were not in place by 7:30 you were out of luck for the day and who wants to get up early on vacation. The best ones were gone by 5:00 am. The pool staff also played favorites. We were told they couldn't move umbrellas, but when I saw a large tip exchange hands an umbrella magically appeared for one of the other customers. The same customers were also not held to the same standards, it was an adult only pool and their 3 children were there most of the time. There were really only 2 staff members who were kind and gave good customer service - Debbie from Ingredients, remembered my breakfast order every day and Cyndi from the concierge staff made sure she went out of the way to talk to folks. Other than that I was extremely disappointed. I would go to ask for towels and was told they weren't open yet, but when I turned back around, they were handing towels to someone else. They also had a New Year's Eve party out poolside so you if you had paid the extra price for an ocean front room, you also got to hear the party go on until 2:30 am, which I wasn't too happy about. Needless to say we will not be returning to this location or recommending it. January 5, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Location, Location The location is fantastic, close to everything and the view spectacular if you are lucky to have ocean front rooms. Rooms were a little 'tired' for a 4 star hotel but appreciate the high occupancy and turn-over rate as evidenced by the number of guests arriving and departing. Its a nighmare to get a chair by the pool and one quickly learns to 'reserve' the chair early in the morning. Some chairs stay vacant for hours even though there is meant to be some 'policing' of this...its not good to have to call the desk because ignorant guests cant not smoke and cause others to have to retreat inside. The NYE entertainment and dinner options were not as expected. Dinner in the Kai Market for $249 (buffet) and entry to RumFire was not worth it at all. Food was average and mass produced, very limited wine/champagne list which meant one had to go to the bar as the one waiter was run off his feet. If you went to the bar you received french champagne in a plastic glass and had to be transferred to glass back at our table. The 'champagne' that was offered was Prosecco and was terrible. We couldnt even get into RumFire as there were too many people. As for the music, we appreciated that you were catering for the 'young' crowd, however, the restaurant was full of 30 plus adults who would have liked some variety and to have been able to dance the night away as well. We could not and retreated to our ocean view room for champagne and views of the fireworks and then had to listen to 'head-banging' loud music and the DJ trying desperately to get the crowd going. If you dont like crowds, Japanese tourists then I would suggest you find another location to stay in Honolulu. We wont be staying here next time...its too busy and crowded. January 3, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by best experience yet Excellent hotel - from the minute we checked in the service, friendliness and "extras" we received (such as upgrade to ocean view room, free photo etc and other perks) were unexpected and made our stay an enjoyable one. Thanks, we will definitely be staying there again next time and all our friends will too! We felt like really valued guests. January 2, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Resort Charge and Service, SPG Gold Amenity I paid the daily resort charge and did not receive water bottle a couple days. when notifying the front desk 3 separate times to bring it up, they never did. Also, as a Gold member, expected to have some additional amenity or service, but was only granted 1 visit to the club lounge. January 1, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Excellent overall but uneven service We had an excellent overall stay and the facility was great. Alison at the front desk was excellent at check-in and recognized our SPG Gold status. Linda at the pool bar also gave us excellent service. So these are strong positives. On the flip side we had dinner reservations at the Rum Fire. When we arrived they were indifferent to our reservation and told us it was open seating. Then when i said we should have a nicer seat due to reservation the hostess seated us at a undesirable table that had not been fully cleaned yet when several better table were available. The other less positive experience was when we went to the pool and ask for a towel. We asked the hostess if we could get help with seating and showed the gold arm bands we had been given at check-in that would give us "expedited" service. The hostess LAUGHED at us when we showed the arm band and said they did not know of anything they could do for us and were not aware that any privileges accrued to the arm band. i stated that this was detailed when we checked in and she just shrugged her shoulders. Rated 3 out of 5 by Great food and kind room service The most crowded week of the year. No lounge chairs to be had anywhere - the beach chairs rent for $45. Beach towels were skimpy. Forgot our wake-up call. Couldn't see the infinity pool, because packed with chairs and people. maid service was impeccable. Food everywhere in the hotel was very good. Next time I would stay at a smaller, more adult space. This was perfect for families with small children. December 31, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Employee Training is needed My family spent the Christmas season again this year at the Sheraton. We noticed right away a huge difference in the customer service from 2 years ago. Employees almost seemed put out to help you. The front desk is a disaster and the pool service was even worse. To top it all off, Sheraton now charges you a pool rental charge on top of the daily resort fee. With all the choices of hotels, I would be hard pressed to stay their next Christmas. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Location, Property and Staff Great views from the property, up to date rooms and helpful staff. December 30, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Not Sheraton quality I am used to This is an old hotel. Rust in bathrooms and cracks in walls. Pass through between bathroom and bedroom has no privacy for nose. Hotel is not restful - busier than a zoo. No relaxing at all. Location is good for shopping. Room service food poor. Staff not as professional or efficient as I'm used to. I am a platinum member so I have many comparisons. Would not recommend. December 30, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Service Living on another Island I have traveled to Oahu many times for business, but stayed at another Hotel. This was our first stay here at the Sheraton Waikiki, and wont be the last. Loved every bit of our stay here and we are coming back for more. December 30, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Facilities Lots of elevators wait time usually good - but some needed more frequent cleaning/maintenance (info screens not all working, sand on floors), air con on some floors in elevator lobby was insufficient Pool area didn't have enough sitting area for the number of guests. Rooms were not as nice as the hotel level should suggest. December 30, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Christmas Eve in town Me and my husband decided to treat ourselves to a staycation in Waikiki this year for Christmas. We chose the Sheraton Waikiki as we had stayed there before and really liked it. The check in process was slow, but once we were checked in,the room was good and the view was amazing. Being as it was Christmas Eve, things were a quiet festive in Waikiki. However that all changed at about 10:00pm when it sounded like our neighbors were having a party. When we went out on the lanai to see where it was coming from, we discovered it was not the neighbors but it was coming from Rum Fire. Now mind you - Rum fire was 8 floors BELOW us. After listening to this for about 45 minutes - with the music getting louder and louder, I finally called the front desk to be told that "Well we are a hotel and it is a night club that goes until Midnight". Really, because I was pretty sure it was a hotel and I was a paying guest..... I was told that they would send security over to see if they could turn down the music. After another 10 - 15 minutes, the music FINALLY was turned down. It was to the point that we almost left. If this has become the "norm" here, we will reconsider our Staycations as it was NOT RELAXING at all. December 25, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Service and Great Hotel Excellent hotel, very friendly staff, great location right in Waikiki beach. Nothing to beat this place among all the hotels in Oahu-Waikiki Beach. Would certainly recommend Sheraton Waikiki to everyone. December 25, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Good and Bad The good; public areas and most of the hotel staff were excellent. The bad; rooms need updating and cleaning, pool staff lacked any sort of management and were generally unhelpful, hotel design created a wind tunnel effect at the kids pool area. Overall, just OK. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Hotel-Great Service Great service from check-in to check-out. Pool was incredible, most important took special care because of SPG status. December 23, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Very disappointing! The only good thing about this hotel is the location and view. We booked and stayed in a deluxe oceanfront room and got very little value for money. The quality of the bathroom was less than many 3 star hotels I have stayed in in country NSW at less than a quarter of the price. The rest of the room could only be described as "average". The room was far from deluxe. We felt a general atmosphere of "meanness" at this hotel very much out of keeping with our experiences of other Sheraton hotels. - No shower caps provided to room unless specifically requested; no bathrobes unless specifically requested; extra cost to sit in front row deck chairs at the infinity pool with signs hanging on back; smallest pool towels I have ever seen and reluctance to provide more than one at the family pool; very slow internet access with more than half the PCs not working every time we went to use them; no minibar in the room. Even the executive club was poor compared to the usual ones in Australia for hotels of this supposed class. With the exception of the person who checked us in the attitude of staff was poor. 2 of the 3 check in staff appeared to take a break while we and others were still waiting in line to check in. When I commented to one of the reception staff about how poor I thought the bathroom was they said "all the rooms are the same! It is the busiest Sheraton hotel in the world and you are paying for the view". The infinity pool does not live up to its publicity photos also it was quite strange that they did not allow the beach umbrellas in this area to be raised because it was too windy but they were raised in both the bar areas at each side of the pool area that were just as windy. With the exception of the Rum Fire bar the eating areas were also very average. We would not stay at the Sheraton Waikiki again and have strongly recommended the same to all our family and friends. Rated 5 out of 5 by Repeat Customers This note is written to express our sincere appreciation for the staff at Sheraton Waikiki. The service and support they provide is professional, friendly, and without doubt creates a positive and caring environment for your clients. Their interest in helping others is obvious and clearly demonstrates that they are a remarkable well trained team. December 22, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fabulous experience This hotel met all our expectations. Spectacular views from the balcony, an unbelievable infinity poolside experience where all the servers were overly gracious and accommodating. The beautiful sunset view from the balcony. Amazing pool staff and service. Really enjoyed the yoga classes and pool aquatics too! Going back again December 22, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Gift issues My mom tried to order me a bday cake and had major issues. After two hours on the phone she finally got strawberries and champagne ordered. We checked in and it was delivered several hours later when we were out. They were not good the next morning. After the trouble and expense it was not worth it. We booked local rate since we live in Hawaii. Upon check in the requested our hawaii id. I have them our Texas license with the Hawaii address since we're military. They said that wouldn't work but we could use our electric bill. How is a license not better than an electric bill with the same address and name but no picture? They hassled me for 20 minutes while a line of people waited. They decided to give an exception. The rate is not that much cheaper. Our weekend stay was $600. We could have chosen to stay somewhere just as nice for cheaper but I like the sharton. December 21, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by AWKWARD!! Upon entering our oceanfront room we encountered two naked people, my husband and I backed out of the room very quickly! This gave our trip a start that we will not soon be able to get out of our minds. The manager was sorry it happened (yea, us too!) but did very little to compensate us for our AWFUL experience. She kept saying just let me know what I can do, GIVE ME A BREAK!! If you don't know how to right this situation YOU SHOULD NOT BE MANAGING A HOTEL!!! We will never stay in a Sheraton again!!! ALOHA!!
