Rated 2 out of 5 by Yvette24 This hotel needs to improve their customer service.
Upon checking into my room, I noticed that dirty used towels from the previous guest were still in the room and the towel rack was hanging on the wall by a thread. I reported the dirty towels and it took about 12 hours and another phone call before they were removed. I was then given a face towel that looked like a cleaning rag. This is just a sampling of the numerous issues that occured during this stay. I was extremely disappointed with this hotel and sincerely hope that they improve their service.

Rated 3 out of 5 by givedepositsback Great rooms, but service lacking somewhat
Staff was polite, but somewhat slow. Breakfast buffet, the staff could be more speedy in service as the customers are the ones getting their own food. Waiting at times 5-10mins for drinks and/or check/payment doesn't make sense when they have 3 days.
The "steak frittes" dinner, the steak was old and frozen for too long. A very bad cut and way too much cutting and chewing involved to make it worthwhile.
The bar staff though was great and speedy. No issues there.
Main problem I have is when I reserved 2 room, I had to pay as a deposit, 1 night price for each room. At checkout, the deposits were NOT used to reduce the final bill cost.
The front desk stated I have to call accounting to get the deposits back. This is very confusing and does not make sense. I advise changing this policy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Will Outstanding as Always
Overall our stay was outstanding as always. The staff and service was impeccable. I was just a little disappointed in the foods available in the club lounge as well as the short and combined service times; the choices were the most limited I have yet experienced at any SPG hotel and at all the other places I have been a guest of the evening service hours were split between Hors d'œuvres and drinks and deserts after. Nonetheless, I was made to feel comfortable and like an honored guest; thank you!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Arthur42 A Place to Stay
It's a hotel that is a convenient place to stay. The service and cleanliness all met expectations, but its proximity to the central commercial district and historic resources are the reason to stay here. There is an amazing and broad range of great places to eat just a few blocks away on the other side of the freeway. Birmingham is a wonderful, historic city, and this hotel has a great location to facilitate memorable times in Birmingham.

The Sheraton was the recommended conference for a conference I was attending at the BJCC. I am a Birmingham native and have always thought great things about the hotel. I must say that I was extremely disappointed. The staff was very nice and friendly; however, the accommodations were not on par with the nightly rate. The rooms were a decent size; however my room had some peeling wallpaper and there was dust in the corners. The bathrooms were extremely small and there was dust and dirt in the corners of the ceiling and worn wallpaper on the walls. My room was in the tower portion of the hotel, had a nice view, and was on a "SPG Preferred Floor"; however, the carpet on the floor needs to be replaced and the walls had scratch marks where they had been bumped with luggage and housekeeping carts. Overall, I would not stay at this hotel again with the prices listed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Rater Convenient to Center
Hotel was convenient to Civic Center and Sports Hall of Fame. No free WiFi connection in room; paid connections ($10 per day) must be renewed each day. If tech support is needed, you will be connected to India. Cell phone reception in room was nonexistent. Cold water one day and low water pressure. No frig or safe in room. Most staff were friendly and helpful. Quiet and otherwise comfortable. Right on trolley line.

The hotel needs a big update. We stayed on the top (17th) floor in the atrium, but noise from below came through the windows as if they were open. There is no in-room Wi-Fi (only Internet access via cable), so iPads & iPhones can't connect except via cellular account, which was overloaded due to a large event. Finally, we had hot water in the sink but only warm & cold water in the shower. The hotel will be a sub-par Sheraton property until they re-invest in improvements, so we can't recommend it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by JimPSU Not a lot of hot water on the 15th floor
I expect a bit more from the Sheraton. This hotel has issues ... After an evening workout, I came back to my room to no hot water. Had warm water the next morning and then cold later in the day. The morning after that, cold again. I did call and was offered a free breakfast, but was attending a conference that had one. The woman was very nice and explained that a lot of people were probably taxing the system, which I find hard to believe. Also, I ordered room service and had some chicken wings brought up. The wings were fine, but the drumsticks were not cooked all the way through. That is very unsafe. I called to complain ... was offered breakfast. Upon checkout, was surprised to see the charge for room service. Ceiling panels in the closet were also stained. I expect more from Sheraton. Have stayed a many Sheratons in the South, i.e. Mobile and Orlando and found this property very tired. The meeting space was very good though.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Willprow Average Sheraton but below expecations
This hotel is older but undergoing renovations. My room was renovated was clean and a very typical Sheraton hotel room. However there is no Wifi in the rooms. There is hard wired internet access which worked well for my laptop but I could not use my tablet unless I went down to the lobby. Also there is no club lounge. My understanding is that there will be once the renos are complete. I am not sure about the wireless access. I would not stay here agin unless I knew that wirelesswas available

Rated 2 out of 5 by DisappointedStay Not prepared to handle large groups
I was very disappointed at my stay with Sheraton. I feel that for what we paid per night, Wi-Fi shouldn't be $10/day (it should be included). Also, there are no microwaves or small refrigerators in the rooms, which makes it very inconvenient for self meal options.
The eating options are ridiculously limited - I would expect that when you know there is a conference (or TWO conferences at the same time) in your hotel, that there would be expanded eating options for lunch. The ONLY lunch option within the hotel (Casey's) did not even have the staffing to allow for a full restaurant (only two servers). That being said, the food at Casey's was very good and our server (Brittany) was awesome and very accommodating!
And I have never seen such a mess for checking-in and checking-out. We attempted to change the name on our room prior to our stay, which resulted in double charging our card. And never have I stayed at ANY hotel where you have to go down to the front desk in order to check out. This lengthy procedure is very inefficient, especially for business travelers.
As well, our wall vibrated so much (from what, I'm unsure - the door next to us was a maintenance room) that we had to place tissue paper between the wall and hanging picture. We also had to move our pillows away from the headboards to attempt to limit the vibrations while sleeping.
The atrium set up of this hotel also makes it almost impossible to sleep at night - every sound from below comes right up through the crack in the door. I know that nothing can be done about this, but it made our stay all that more unappealing.
The positive that I am able to report is the very convenient shuttle stop directly out front of the hotel. This was a nice bonus.
Sadly, I am unable to recommend this particular hotel to friends or family. I am looking forward to staying at a different hotel next time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Scottih Great staff, comfortable beds, noisy from traffic and guests in hallway
Front desk staff outstanding. I messed up something and they had no record of my spg reservation but front desk staff called spg for me, put me on and I had a room with points in minutes. Very kind, compassionate, caring staff. Rooms very comfortable but too much interstate noise and guests in hallway talking sounded like they were in your room. Parking at 12 bucks a day is also not pleasant and neither is paying 10 bucks day for internet service in room.

I was very dissatisfied with the accommodations and the hotel staff. We were at a conference with 6000 students and advisors and there was not sufficient staff to help us. It was impossible to get food service and most venues ran out of things. I do not think that the hotel was at all prepared. My room was not clean and I had to clean it myself. I tried to use the computers in the Lobby and it would not let me log in.

This is the 2nd time I've stayed at this hotel and it will be my last. The prices in this hotel are ridiculous and border on theft. I was charged $5 for a pint of milk - (a pint of milk!) and a glass of wine was $9! These prices are higher than they are in major markets such as New York!
In addition, there is no express chck out - you have to wait in line, which takes about 20 minutes.
Never again, there's a new hotel next door and that's where I woulkd recommend.

Room had not been thourghly cleaned in a long time. Caked dust in the corners of the bathroom. Empty whiskey bottles under the bed! Room not vacuumed during the 5 nights of stay.
Cable for internet broken and not replace after being notified. Unable to access internet from the room, atrim or lobby during entire stay.
Hall way carpets extremely filthy! Did not look like they had been cleaned in years!
Food extremely expensive.
Would not recommend this hotel for future stays,

We checked in on December 26th. the staff placed us into a room that was not cleaned. what we noticed was that the hotel might have been 5% full. we were in town for our sons surgery so we needed every comfort and amenity. we finally got into a clean room but had to book another room after the beds were not adequate in our room. we then went to my sons surgery the next day, and when we returned to our room it had not been cleaned. this happened after we had been gone 10 hours.

Rated 5 out of 5 by HotelSnob Wonderful Night Auditor
I thought I would have trouble booking a same night points reservation after midnight. But I was wrong. Both the hotel staff and central reservations were very helpful and patient.
When I arrived I was greeted by a genuinely kind lady with a warm smile and all the information I needed to feel comfortable in your facility right away.
Though the hotel is a bit outdated the staff made all the difference.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Kjan68 Great location, excellent service!
My daughter and I stayed here to attend a concert at BJCC concert hall. The location was perfect. It was so convenient. The hotel is beautiful. The room was clean. The service from all areas was fabulous, from the afternoon staff when we checked in, the night staff when we returned from the concert, including security, to the late night diner staff and housekeeping. We were greated by everyone and they were all willing to help in any way!! I would highly recommend this hotel.

The room was small and the bathroom tiny.
We had ants during the entire stay even after requesting the room be sprayed.
The staff at the vehicle checkin did not offer to help my wife with a luggage cart or offer to help her after she got one on her on. She had to request help with a heavy bag
The bellman, however, was very good.
The registration desk was very helpful.

we had two rooms on the 5th floor and the place was disgusting. The stains on the carpet in the hall by our doors was nasty. One room had splatter stains on one of the walls. TV stations didn't work half the time and the wireless would reach the room even through we paid for it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by FTRPLT The Worst Sheraton I Have Ever Stayed At
I have enjoyed quality service and facilities with Sheraton all over the world. However, the Birmingham, AL Sheraton is a glaring exception. Service is non-existent at the Birmingham Sheraton. Its hallways and carpets are horribly stained, the rooms stink (literally), and the air conditioning in the three rooms I tried to stay in was unable to cool the rooms to anything below 90 degrees F. My children's rooms had the same issues. We will never stay there again. Never.

Rated 5 out of 5 by 2biguns Wonderful visit for concert
Very impressed with young man who is doing an internship of some kind with consierge desk. VERY helpful for us.
Only suggestion is adding Wi-Fi to rooms if upgrade is ever in picture, although room did have Ethernet cable (we brought ipad instead of laptop).
GREAT way to go to concert or other function at BJCC. Check in, cab to supper (highly recommend Little Donkey in Homewood) then back to civic center for show.
Wondeful staff all the way around. Will be back.

I stay here once a summer for a two night stay to attend a business conference. The bed is super nice and the rooms are quiet and clean. The staff is nice and friendly. I would have given an excellent review instead of good, but for two points: There is a $10 charge per day for internet and there are not enough dining options. The room service is quite high. Other than that, everything is very nice and I don't regret ever staying at The Sheraton in Birmingham.

For this hotel to not provide complimentary internet service is below McDonald's. They have wired in the rooms, at least you would think they would comp that. The adjacent Conference Facility provides strong wifi throughout, Sheraton can't.
And THEN top top it off for patrons spending days at the hotel attending the conventation, which goes all day on Sunday, for the hotel to not allow a late checkout is simply telling their customers "we don't care about you".

Rated 1 out of 5 by jkb2012 Below Average
For being one of the larger hotels in Birmingham this one is at best below average. The carpets in this place are terrible. One morning I waited 15 minutes for the elevator because there was only one working. Most of the stay only two were working. The rooms were average and the AC cut off in the middle of the night if there was no movement in the room. Overall not up to starwood standards and conisdering it is attached to the convention center I expected more.

THE MORNING SHOWER HAD NO HOT WATER AND THE WATER PRESSURE WASN'T EVEN AVERAGE. tHE THERMOSTATE IN THE ROOM NEVER WORKED CORRECTLY, AND THE ROOM WAS HOTTER AT NIGHT WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COLD.

Stayed one night for Birmingham Marathon. The room was nice and spacious. Suprisingly quiet. There was an Animee convention going on at the same time and I did not hear any noise from that young group. I was able to get a great night sleep. It was very close to the marathon start/finish line.
Cons- there was no hot water. I was looking forward to a hot shower after the hard run. No such luck. Wife also had a problem with cold/scalding shower the night before.

I was at your hotel because of a conference of 1500 people. The restaurant was not open for lunch, neither was the coffee bar. No place to get a quick bite. Getting my car at the end took over an hour. and the next morning when I left for the airport at 4:15am, it took over 20 minutes to retrieve the car....unacceptable! checking in, I was given the wrong room and key...it was already occupied...my key didn't work the next day.. just overall, not good!
