Rated 2 out of 5 by The customer service was horrible It seems that employees are never prepared for the large capacity crowd that Magic City Classic weekend brings. There is never enough staff and those who are there seem very irritated and frustrated. It comes across very negatively and as extremely poor customer service. Even the manager didn't seem to know how to handle situations. Several of us had to come back to the desk, because the rooms we were given were not what we reserved or agreed to receive. This has happened to me for the past 3 years in a row. The manager tried to joke and rush to action before even comprehending my concern. Finally, however, he did get it right, but it took over 30 minutes. Next, valet completely bent my license plate. After calling it to their attention, they tried to say that it was not them. However, the plate was not bent when I first left my vehicle with valet services. They attempted to straighten it back out, but it is still slightly bent. Breakfast this year was very subpar what I'm used to having at the Sheraton. So much so, that I refused to do dinner there as my family and I usually do. There were no apologies and no show of concern for any of the issuesI I encountered. It is absolutely sad that our universities keep putting us at an establishment that doesn't seem to care about showing common courtesy, respect and proper professionalism. October 31, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Great hotel; terrible service. Myself and a girl on my team stayed here for the first time last Friday night. It was a beautiful hotel, and dinner in the restaurant downstairs was excellent, and we had a great night's sleep. Saturday morning, we got up and ordered breakfast from room service. I got a bath and got ready, and an hour later, the food was not there! I called, and they said that it would be right up. Another hour passed, and it still was not there! I called the operator, and told him that we needed to go downstairs and register for the event that we were attending, and asked if they could leave the food in our room, and they said yes. We go down to register and come back, and there is still no food! We call the operator, it's the same one that we have talked to twice, and he said that they came with the food, but couldn't leave it because we were not there, this is after he had told us that they would leave it! They said they would bring it right up; this took over 30 minutes. We finally got breakfast at 11:00 am--this was over two hours after we ordered it. I expect this from one of those $50.00 motels, not from a hotel that I paid over $200.00 for. I was hoping to stay here in the future, now I'm not so sure. Overall, the hotel is nice, the Valet guys were great, the front desk staff was not friendly at check-in or check-out, and we almost starved to death. February 17, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Was Blown Away By Bellman ! When I arrived at the hotel, I needed to valet my car and baggage assistance and no one was around. I waited another car pulls up behind me and their car was greeted but I am still sitting there. Long story short I was getting a little upset at this point. I finally had to ask why I was not being taken care of and the valet attendant had an attitude. Then I go to check in and the Front Desk person tells me about the green program and that I could earn additional points by not having housekeeping services and I was so excited.. She told me nothing else about the program so I thought that I was all signed up.. The following day late after noon I come back to my room and I have received service. I called the following day and talk to the front desk and she said it is not in the system that you wanted no service but she would put me in the computer and no one told me that I needed to hang a door tag on the door before 2am., until I checked out....well the first girl never told me !! Then late after noon my room was cleaned again...this was a lack of communication and I earned NO Additional points ., But these were the GREAT things..... Orlando... the best Bellman ever..So kind ! So informative and he actually showed me where my fire exits were on the back of the door! No one in my life has ever done that!! Also the restaurant staff were also excellent and accommodating.. Rated 3 out of 5 by My experience with this hotel I must say that this hotel was nice as well as comfortable. The staff was very attentive as well. However, this hotel was not an affordable deal because my room rate was $189.00/night + taxes and I did not have a microwave nor a fridge (which come standard at most lower priced hotels). This forced me to either go out for food or order room service. And while speaking of room service, a $39 room service bill turned into a $58 cost to my room account due to hidden fees (taxes, delivery fee, food fee, etc). Also, I was charged $5.14 for picking up the room phone to make a call in which no one ever answered (not even an answering machine). Please understand, I am no stranger to travel and the expenses involved with high-end hotels. I have stayed in many 4 star hotels in my life but have never experienced such overpricing for things as The Sheraton charged. I easily could've booked a $79-$99/night hotel a few miles away and driven in for my conference and had a much more reasonably priced experience for the money. But to be fair, the hotel was comfortable and the service was above average. The prices were just exorbitant for the services rendered. This hotel was paid for by my employer for a conference at this hotel but if I ever travel to Birmingham again on my own dime this WILL NOT be where I stay. But if you are looking for a nice looking hotel with good service and have no problem with money, then this is your place! June 18, 2012
