Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Hotel, beware of rooms next to Elevator Hotel was a very pleasant stay. If you are a person who is very sensitive to noise, a room near the elevator (King Suite), you will experience a subtle hum that is bothersome. Hotel Staff did everything they could to accommodate us even to the point of refunding our points. SO the staff is extremely responsive. October 24, 2012

Rated 3 out of 5 by Hotel has pluses and minuses Hotel has excellent location - convenient to concert center, museum, catholic cathedral, interstates for access to excellent shopping. The room was probably excellent for traveling busness persons but was sadly lacking for we who wanted a romantic getaway. The bed was excellent with great linens but that was the end of the comfort. Chairs were uncomfortable and ill placed for relaxing with TV or reading. One lamp never worked adequately even though a workman came to the room, giggled the controls for access, it never worked again. He did say the lamps needed replacement and we agreed. The bathroom was adequate but showing real wear including discoloration (either mildew or rust) around the tub. For whatever reason we had to pay daily for valet services instead of those being automatically added to our bill. Overall we expected a higher level of comfort for our long weekend and a more finished facility. Staff was absolutely excellent. October 18, 2012

Rated 5 out of 5 by Had a Great Stay We were attending a convention held in the hotel. We stayed for four nights and had an enjoyable stay. The rooms were clean and had adequate space. The staff was exceptionally friendly. We also attended a couple of banquets and the food was much better than expected. We will be back next October. October 18, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Very disappointed I have to say I was disappointed at my first stay with one of the SPG properties, Sheraton Birmingham AL (10/15). The property was not what it was advertised as on line (newly renovated, pool, etc). The carpet in the hallways near the rooms were extremely dirty, with large black spots all over the hallways as if fresh dirt was ground in them. I think it's comical, Now, that every staff member wanted to tell me about the pool yet it was under construction, apparently for a long time. In addition, I requested additional toiletries and was shocked when I received items with chewed gum on the outside of the bottles! I guess my shock was continued by the lack of concern by the staff I reported it to that day and upon checkout. I'm glad it was a one night stay or else I would have moved to another hotel. Very surprised that at the least, I didn’t have a supervisor on duty call me to apologize or correct the situation. October 17, 2012

Rated 1 out of 5 by I can never reccommend this hotel we stayed for the talladega weekend last week... Our Tub would not empty.. it is not nice to take a shower in your own dirty water... the ice machines did not work on the 6th and 7th floors... i had to travel up to the 8th floor to get ice... I have never stayed at a hotel where the did not take a credit card for incidentals... we were not able to rent a movie without coming down and paying for it first... very unprofessional... and the manager did very little to help the situation... although he was professional and kept himself in that manner throughout the transaction October 10, 2012

The outlets and computer connections were not very work-friendly - no wireless, and few outlets in the room, meaning that I needed to unplug things to plug in chargers and crawl under furniture. Rated 1 out of 5 by Overall Stay My resent stay did not meet my expected standards for a Sharton Hotel. The room did not have any ready available outlets to plug in my cellphone charger or laptop. My stay was on a Monday evening and the ESPN channel did not display so I missed the MNF game that evening. Also the room was always hot and did not cool down even when I lowered the temp. Not an enjoyable stay. Also the iron did not heat up. October 9, 2012

Rated 3 out of 5 by Only a few problems I stay at the sheriton at least a few times a year I always have a pretty good experience this time was no difference my only set back is I had to ask to be comped for parking or internet because there was no pool no club level nothing that I get for being a spg member also I was on the tenth floor and had very little hot water and what I did get was only warm and didn't last long...I will be back in a few weeks and I will see if the problem is the same on a different level. Rated 2 out of 5 by Very disappointing This hotel has a very beautiful section called the Atrium with interior rooms. Unfortunately, I was placed on the other side in the tower. This area seems to be older and somewhat dingy. My first issue was a broken TV remote control. Not a big deal and they quickly replaced it. Next I set up my laptop and prepared to log in only to find out that they are still charging for internet. $8 per night for low speed (which was horrible) and $24 per night for high speed. Next you find out that they don't have wireless. Really??? Before I could use the wired option I had to have the ethernet cable replaced due to a broken end piece. Now I'm finally hooked up ready to get some work done while watching Monday night football. My next issue was the TV. It's a beautiful big flat screen and they seem to be up to date because 80% of the channels are HD. Unfortunately none of the HD channels work. I had to scrap the horrible internet that I already paid for and watch the game in the lobby. I also had issues with my toilet. It would run continuously and was very loud so I was constantly jiggling the handle trying to get it to stop in the middle of the night. After my long night I headed to the lobby to find some coffee because no one likes the horrible little coffee makers in the rooms. The coffee never tastes good when it comes out of one of those things. I was happy to see that they had coffee available but unhappy to see that it was $2 per cup. After paying a premium room rate, paying to park (yes you must pay to park here), and paying for internet... Paying $2 for coffee was a little more than irritating. I will not be using this hotel again. September 21, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Below Average For being one of the larger hotels in Birmingham this one is at best below average. The carpets in this place are terrible. One morning I waited 15 minutes for the elevator because there was only one working. Most of the stay only two were working. The rooms were average and the AC cut off in the middle of the night if there was no movement in the room. Overall not up to starwood standards and conisdering it is attached to the convention center I expected more. September 20, 2012

Rated 1 out of 5 by Poor Service for room rate Room had not been thourghly cleaned in a long time. Caked dust in the corners of the bathroom. Empty whiskey bottles under the bed! Room not vacuumed during the 5 nights of stay. Cable for internet broken and not replace after being notified. Unable to access internet from the room, atrim or lobby during entire stay. Hall way carpets extremely filthy! Did not look like they had been cleaned in years! Food extremely expensive. Would not recommend this hotel for future stays, September 15, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Nice Hotel-Expensive Food This hotel was very nice but the food prices in the restaurants were very high. I travel alot and this was by far the most expensive I have come across. The area around the hotel is not very safe(according to security) so walking to other restaurants is not possible. The room was comfortable and the staff was very nice. Rated 2 out of 5 by Sheraton Birmingham The room cleanliness, layout, furnishings, etc were all fine. However, there was a very strong moldy/mildew smell in the room that was strongest when I returned to the room after an absence (the air conditioning would shut off automatically when I left the room so there was no ventilation during that time). The maid tried to spary room freshener on the filter and around the room which helped for about 15 minutes. One of the staff said it was a problem with all the rooms in that section (15th floor, tower). September 14, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great value for the access and location POSITIVES: The hotel is literally right off I-20, we barely had to detour at all from our planned route. We booked two rooms, and they were both in good shape. The beds were very comfortable, and the showers were nice. One of our rooms had a walk-in shower with a shower handle which was convenient for washing the baby. The staff was very friendly, particularly in the Atrium restaurant (thanks Ms. Carolyn!). And the food? Excellent. Next time I pass through Birmingham, I may drop in just for the breakfast bar! Best quality bacon I've had at a restaurant in a long time. Plus eggs, fresh fruit, various biscuit/waffle/pancake options... it was awesome. NEGATIVES: Unless you valet, expect a long walk through some poorly-maintained hallways to get to the hotel. The hotel is attached to the BJCC convention center and the entrance from the parking deck is in rough shape, which is NOT the fault of the hotel. Perhaps a cost-sharing PIP with the BJCC to get that entrance fixed up would do wonders for the hotel's image. Some inexpensive PVC flooring planks with a hardwood look, double-secured with glue, would be spectacular and hold up well to heavy traffic. Some of the carpeting inside the hotel was spotty as well, and moulding was missing in spots in some of the hallways OVERALL The negatives are really, really, minor in comparison to the value proposition that this hotel offered us. We will definitely be back although next time we will probably valet :-) September 12, 2012

Staff unwilling to seat guests even thought seating available "because kitchen is behind." Multiple latches non-functional in ladies rooms near meeting areas. . September 9, 2012

Rated 4 out of 5 by The Hotel has strategic location. Hotel overall was good. I chose the Green option on check-in. A good choice and the hotel honored the coupons for food. The only negative comment was the A/C. Had to lower the temp into the 60's to get the room cool. September 5, 2012
