The hotel was very nice and the staff were courteous too. The rooms were clean and spacious. Although I missed the ability to prepare coffee/tea in the room, the coffee served at breakfast was good enough. Also, it would be nice to have more English channels on TV. Other than this, I was very satisfied with the hotel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Absolute Excellent service and location - highly recommended!
I spent two weeks here on a business trip, which my wife and 3 month old had accompanied me on from Canada. We were very impressed with the hotel overall, but especially with the service!
Throughout our stay we were always greeted warmly and welcomed whenever we came or left. There was one agent particular who made our stay enjoyable, helping us out with any issues and providing recommendations as we struggled without Portuguese. Hats off to Tiago, a star on your staff!
Check-in was a little problematic as our stay had been split over three different reservations, and there was also an international tennis tournament going on that was taking over most of there rooms. However the manager quickly came over to us and explained the situation, apologizing for the inconvenience with a newborn.
He quickly took us up to the lounge for us to have a quiet area with the baby, which only took perhaps 20 minutes. As a platinum member we were also upgraded to a suite, but we had to change rooms after the first two days.
Our first room was on an unrenovated floor, but was nicely laid out with a large living room, bedroom, and bathroom. I didn't actually see any need to renovate at first!
Our second room was on a higher floor and was just renovated. It looked even better than our last room, with a great setup as a suite.
Our crib had been delayed back in Toronto, but we were quickly provided with one from the hotel. Did I mention the service? Without our saying anything, they also provided us with an infant bath to wash our baby in - when we planned to just wash him in the sink (hey, he was tiny!)
We ate breakfast in the lounge each morning, with a great selection of food. Even though there are only 5 or 6 tables, it was never too busy and always had fresh food. At night it provided a small selection of appetizers, although we never took advantage of the bar selection. The lounge was usually staffed by the same staff, with some great conversations after spending a few weeks there.
On the top floor is an excellent gym, which also seems to be for the public - a mix of hotel guests and professional trainers. It also had a nice pool with surrounding glass windows, and was even a little heated. That part we appreciated for our son, who had his very first swim there!
Hotel location - excellent. Just down the street is a big park with walking / running trails, and a pond filled with turtles. My wife spent her days walking around and sitting there in the sun while I worked.
It's in an upscale area, being attached to a luxury mall. Note the luxury part - I shopped there for business clothes due to delayed baggage. Prices and stores are higher end, but there is a great department store in the basement for all your needs.
Lots of restaurant choices nearby, and the room service in the hotel is excellent. Standard Sheraron menu, but great chefs and service. Saved our sanity a few times, after a long working day and a sleeping baby.
I highly recommend this hotel!

Overall, nice hotel, staff at Front Desk very nice. rooms are spacious and well appointed.
Location seems to be good with a mall attached (did not use).
Biggest downfall is the fact that you can not order a glass of wine. You are forced to buy a bottle or half-bottle. Just not something you would expect in a Sheraton
really annoying, if you don't want to drink a lot.
and food was not great either - steak cooked too much (closer to well done than medium)
not sure that I would return

My wife and I traveled for three weeks through Chile, Bolivia and Peru prior to arriving at Porto Alegre for a conference. In comparison with the other hotels we stayed at, the Porto Alegre Shereton was our least pleasant experience. The reception staff were quite helpful, BUT all other staff - door staff, coffee bar staff and other black-suited security (?) staff (sometime three or four in in the lobby at a time) - rarely greeted us on our return to the hotel, appeared to be totally disinterested in their work, and did not speak even basic English (which staff in other hotels did very well). In addition, this was one of the more expensive hotels we stayed in and unlike all others, changed a high fee (US$14 [?] per day) for internet access, except for one free connection per day in the lobby. The room standard was very good but lacked tea/coffee making facilities or iron/ironing board. Aside from interaction with the reception staff (who did appear to be properly trained as hospitality staff), this was not a particularly enjoyable stay.

We liked the convenience of this hotel in a nice neighborhood. It was a good place to begin to get to know a little bit about Brazil. The extra buffet/snacks plan were worth the added cost. The staff was very very helpful and gave special touches that made us feel at home.

Hotel staff were very friendly & enthusiastic! We arrived early and they made an extra effort to prepare our rooms.
The hotel has nice size, safe park about a block away. The park is full of families as well as people of all ages exercising (walking & running). However, we were told to be careful after dark. Also, there are a number of restaurants filled with young professionals during dinner hours.
I enjoyed my experience very much.

Hotel is adjacent to an area full of good restaurants/bars and shops within easy walking distance . Security was an important factor to me and there was very evident but not intrusive systems in place.

Number one is the care you have with us and specially this hotel in Porto Alegre has a fine and surprising shopping besides with very interesting stores.
