Rated 5 out of 5 by Sparky22 A beautiful romantic resort
A beautiful romantic resort close to special water activities, relaxation and the aloha spirit. Very friendly staff, excellent management. Newell took prompt care of us. Loved the yoga classes by Hoodie outside looking over the crystal clear bay. Rays on the Bay was awesome. Rooms are beautiful, spacious and modern. My only concern is, when am I coming back?!!!

Some of my feedback included/
< Room coffee, weak quality given the rooms (very comfortable ). Btw does it really cost that much to have a real coffee cup vs paper
< Pool bar/ Whats up with closing the bar at 5:15pm when you have paying guest there and would be staying longer and spending more. Then shuffling everyone to a secondary bar not prepared to serve adequately.
< The staff is competent and friendly, yet from time to time they seem unattentive and caught up in maintenance task vs. serving a obvious waiting client.
< Parking/ self parking would be fine if the staff weren't taking up the closest spots not in the valet pool ?
< Overall a good place, friendly staff and a good valule

Rated 4 out of 5 by DocL Great place; great views; needs better food service
Overall we loved the place; however, the restaurant options need to be improved. One night, Ray's (the only option) closed due to the surf (really?) and one night it closed early for no real reason at all. This is a resort -- and by early, I mean 9:00. Place more options and more hours. We were not going to pay $24 for a room service hamburger so headed to town.

Sheraton Kona has beautiful grounds. The hotel staff is top notch. Rays restaurant in the hotel has a fabulous menu featuring local fish and produce.

The clerk at check-in, Christie, was simply outstanding. My profile had a preference for a king size bed but this did not get through when using Starwood points.
Christie went the extra mile to ensure a king size bed was made available to me.
Unfortunately, it has become more difficult to get what you want when using Starwood points. It is a long way from the Westin experience I enjoyed back 20 years ago when I first became a Westin Preferred Guest.

Rated 3 out of 5 by avflyer Great Staff, Middle of the Road Rooms, Great Value
I have stayed at this property several times in the past year. So, my perspective is from several different rooms / floors / views and my remarks evaluate the property on an overall basis.
The property is a bit dated, but I believe that within the confines of the reduced rate environment they have had in the last few years, they have done a fair job of keeping it up to date. The rooms recently received new carpet and were generally freshened. My latest room had a 37" LG flat screen TV. I always have to call for extra bath towels as they only stock each room with two. The industrial tankless wall mount toilet is a little odd. The furniture is old and starting to not function very well (drawers sticking etc.).
If you are going to HI on business and need WIFI, do not stay here. First, their routers are all ancient "B" routers (11mbps). Second, the band-with pops in and out like a spy-hopping whale. Again, I have stayed in several different rooms in this property and have had the same experience in all of them. The funny thing is that when I call to ask the staff to address this issue, they seem surprised.
Platinum suite upgrades are rare. They generally give you a standard water front room and that is it.
The pool is very nice and very large for this resort. On the weekends this area is overrun by locals and their children. I think the hotel gives good Kamaaina rates on the weekend.
The fitness center is extremely well equipped, and very clean. A+ in this area.
The food is typical Hawaiian overpriced hotel fare. Nothing unusual here. Much better options in town.
I find it odd that they have a hamper at the front desk which is apparently used for used towels. I also find it odd that instead of refreshing your bottled water daily, they give you some sort of certificate for free bottled water.
Beware of the resort fee of $15.00 per day.
I like this place, but with just a little effort it could really become a top notch Sheraton resort. I really would like to see that as options on this side of the island are rather limited.

Rated 3 out of 5 by kuleana Promises not kept
My visit began with the information that the room I had confirmed over a year previously was not available. Although accomodations were made, this was a major disappointment. This was in contrast with the wonderful sincerity and aloha of the cultural staff (especially Nani and Grayden), the great location and the historic setting.
