Rated 5 out of 5 by Wish I could have stayed longer. Staying at your hotel with your staff was the only bright side of my island stay. October 8, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great for familys Great for kids pool is awsome!! October 8, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Ocean View is Great! Loved the ocean front room, pool area and grounds. Great staff! October 4, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by First Time in Hawaii The hotel and location is beautiful. The hotel staff and concierge are 2nd to none. They assisted in all areas and service was quick and prompt. The spa was clean and staff was well qualified and I got some awesome massages!! Loved the salt room and sauna. The only two items that I felt were less than excellent was the Luau .. for $79 I did not feel the food was as authentic as it could of been, it seemed a bit more commercialized or processed ... and there just seemed to be a lot of commentary during the show rather than just the show. The morning breakfast buffet was good .. but can't say it was worth $25 p/p - that was a bit steep. Loved the coffee! I'm a Kona girl for life! September 30, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Understated elegance It was lovelier than we imaged,if that could even be possible. The hotel , the staff were exceptional & gave the extra personal touch. September 29, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Pleasant Stay Rooms were very comforatable and clean. I enjoyed the fitness center too. September 27, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Aloha Spirit Quiet Hotel given the open air design. Rooms larger than expected. All facilities were clean an neat. Staff was friendly and engaging. Especially liked the enthusiasm of the young man who gave the get aquainted with island of Hawai'i talk and the gentleman who lead the Historic walk of the grounds tour. Both were very informative. Activites during the day were nice and would have like to have had the time to attend more. Did attend the yoga which could have been earlier. Seeing the Manta Rays at night was nice but they need additional lights to illuminate a little more of the bay. The pool was nice/quiet and had fun using the slide. Didn't use the Spa. Our lani was big and we enjoyed relaxing on it. They just need to weed the flower box. It overlooked the side of RAYS but we never heard any noise from there at night. There was a wedding on the lawn but the music shut off around 10 pm. The one thing that was disturbing was the birds which fly into and around the dining room. They land on buffet and tables and eat food. It was cute at first, and then put us off eating at the restaurant when we saw them walking and sitting on the bufet food. We had a really nice stay and I would book here again. September 27, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Excellent and affordable Sheraton resort I enjoyed my stay there for 5 days. Well-maintained, beautiful, and surrounded by pools and gardens. It's located in the location where you may prefer its silence unlike Kona downtown. Few shortcomings were ants in my room (pesticied but still come back), no beach (but volcano rock and manta ray right in front of you), and noise from restaurant (stopped at 10pm though). Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent staff, Great Location The staff were very helpful, friendly and accommodating. I would like to specially mention Kori, Nani, Troy, Regena, Vicky, Jerry (or Gary? at Concierge), Chef Clem. I would like more choices on the menu at Rays By the Bay. September 22, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love the Hotel, the Manta's, Ray's on the Bay We have just moved to the Big Island to a small coffee farm and will continue to enjoy our getaways at the Sheraton. We love the location, the fabulous views, the Manta's, Ray's on the Bay. September 22, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by The staff is excellent and has a grand exterior The staffing at the Sheraton was excellent! The exterior of the facility and its layout was wonderful. It wasn't until one entered the room that the hotel went downhill. We had to have the exhaust vent cleaned, it was covered with soot. There was no stereo, cd player for blue ray/dvd player, which was an inconvenience since we purchase cds and dvds during our trip. Golf was virtually ruled out, which was a disappointment since we played golf on all our trips to Hawaii. September 22, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautiful property I was very impressed by the looks of the hotel & surrounding property. The staff was very polite & helpful. A very pleasant stay. September 17, 2013

Rated 3 out of 5 by Average Stay, But No Other Starwood Choice on Big Island Location location location. Please do yourself a favor and choose a room as far from the pool as possible, unless you enjoy the sounds of Disneyland right outside your window. Initial room was located facing the Rays on the Bay and was very peaceful with 12-15ft ceilings. All went well until our nightstand got infested with ants. After which we were moved to another ocean front room right over the pool. The front desk did try to up-sell me to a suite, despite my platinum membership, very disappointing. New room was smaller, had lower ceilings, leaky mildew toilet, broken building elevator, and worse of all, it was right over the pool. Romantic vacation went into disaster with soundtrack of an amusement park from 8am-10pm. On the plus side, all staff I've encountered (besides the front desk responsible for the switch) was very delightful. Would I stay here again? Looks like I have no other choice unless Starwood plans on opening another property (please do on Hilo side). Note: No onsite beach, but several paths around the property to take a stroll. Also participates in Green Choice. No club lounge but cash snack bar on ground floor. Wifi is free to all, but is HORRIBLE. No wired internet connection available in room. Favorite Plat Benefits: Ocean Front upgrade, free valet parking, free daily breakfast buffet for 2 persons ($50 value). September 6, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good first stop during our vacation Excellent facilities, nice cultural programs, a bit South of town but no busy traffic and have shuttle but may want a car, good restaurant, lights to attract manta rays for night time feeding, convenient location for departure of snorkeling/boat trips, no beach but it is the big isand after all, nice pool(s), terrible internet service when it works. Rated 4 out of 5 by Comfortable And Clean Must say that my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Sheraton Kona Resor & Spa. From the time we arrived at the hotel until we left, the staff was courteous, helpful, and showed a lot of the "Aloha Spirit". The grounds were beautiful and well kept. Enjoyed the pool and jacuzzi and just relaxing. Also, enjoyed the close proximity of the Keauhou Shopping Center and the easy shuttle service. Well done. September 3, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Nice stay Friendly bellman, beautiful lobby, but difficult to find registration desk. Nice ocean view; keiki loved the pool! September 3, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Hotel location is great. The Sheraton, although somewhat outdated, is in a beautiful, convenient location. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the grounds are gorgeous. The food at both restaurants needs improvement- I was not impressed with any of my meals. September 3, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best in Kona! We enjoyed our stay very much. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The pool and slide were the highlight for us. All in all we had a wonderful time! September 2, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by beautiful hotel The hotel's structure is designed so you can see through it and onto the ocean, brilliant. The rooms were clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I was not at all happy that they added on a $30 charge for the internet & whatever. That charge should be just added to the price of the room and not come as a surprise. Overall, the place and experience was lovely. September 1, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Hotel The staff was wonderful. My only problem with the facility was not enough washing machines or dryers. September 1, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by This hotel offers great value This hotel treats platinum members well. We stayed for five nights in August 2013. The staff is always helpful and friendly. We got upgraded to a suite and that was appreciated. The breakfast was great. They offered different things every day so you don't get bored. The kids love the pool and slide. It's never too busy. We will definitely stay here again! Mahalo! August 30, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by The best place to stay for water sports. Park once (it's a bit of a hike to your room unless you use valet parking) and then just walk around the corner to the bay for almost any kind of water activity you can imagine: tour boats, sail boats, paddle boats, kayaks, fishing and snorkeling trips, manta ray viewing and more. There is no real sandy beach for lounging, but there is everything else and if you just want to lounge the pool chairs are numerous and comfortable. Many are even positioned for ocean viewing. This is an older hotel built to withstand tsunamis and in places it looks as though it has been through a few, but it is still a top notch stay with clean, comfortable rooms, a large winding pool with a big water slide, a great restaurant with views of forever, a poolside bar and even a few decent shops. The gentleman running the store between the concierge desks was the best person to ask for advice about what to do and he is not at all reluctant to tell you what he knows. We highly recommend the hotel's free cultural walking tour as well as the following boat ride along the shore. The boat is an historic sailing canoe with a six person maximum capacity and you will get a great "Hawaiians' eye" view of the coast. We had a fabulous ocean view room with a private lanai, but unfortunately the outside chairs provided were so uncomfortable (raised to see over the cement railing) that we did not spend a lot of lounging time there. The food at Ray's, onsite, is quite good with great views, live "easy listening" music and a superior staff. This is the place to watch the sunset. August 28, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Family friendly atmosphere Our children love staying here. August 26, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by value for our needs, this resort was too far from the kailua-kona town and wasn't as clean as it should be. there was water dripping from the floor above onto the lanai table and floor, making it a hazard for my elderly mom. the bathtub was so very slippery, also a hazard, even with the rubber mat provided. the resort features are great for families, honeymooners, and those wanting a restful getaway. i would not recommend it to my family because of location, price and cleanliness. August 24, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Wonderfully relaxing hotel Lovely hotel with evening water show courtesy of some local manta rays. Friendly staff and clean hotel. Concierge wasn't overly helpful and the hotel breakfast is one to miss - quite ordinary food quality. August 22, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great service, beautiful landscaping and poolside Beautiful pool with waterfall. Restaurants serve excellent food. Can watch Manta Rays in the evening at the Manta Ray. The Manta Ray has excellent, fast service. The fish and dessert was amazing. The free cultural tour of the grounds was very interesting and the staff very knowledgeable. Enjoyed the free ukulele and hula lessons. There is a free shuttle daily that stops at the main beaches, the pier, all shopping centres and other places of interest. The rooms are nice with good internet service, comfortable beds and beautiful views. We stayed on the mountainside 6th floor and it was very quiet and relaxing. The staff was very accommodating to all of our needs and requests. My son enjoyed the games room and seeing the spayed/neutered cat family. August 22, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by The view is fabulous! Our stay was wonderful and relaxing. The pool is large and slides are fun. Free trolley takes you to the beach and into Kona for eating and shopping. Must check out manta rays from area just past the bar. Best when boats leave, about 8:30-9:00 pm, late but well worth the wait. August 19, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Location, Could be a great hotel We stayed for 9 nights Aug. 2 - 11 2013. Had an ocean front room. Beautiful view of the ocean. The mantas did their dance every night right in front of our balcony. Incredible animals. At check in we were told that the package we booked on line was not what we were getting. The hotel seemed to have no knowledge that we had booked a room with a breakfast package. The front desk staff claimed that they do not have such a package. After getting out the ipad and showing them the online package we booked the hotel ultimately agreed to include the breakfast for two each morning. They certainly had the correct price for our booking, just not the inclusions for the price. After getting the above sorted out, they hotel staff failed to deliver to our room the breakfast vouchers for our stay. We had to again go back to the front desk who found them, supposedly sitting on a bellman's desk for many hours. After the first full day we returned to our room to find that it had not been cleaned. The cleaning staff showed up at 4:45pm to clean the room. After being out all day and wanting showers we just told them to try at a better time the next day. The cleaning staff that looked after our room seemed to have a problem cleaning the large mirror. I made a few marks in the dirt that had built up for some time on the glass surface. Also, for some reason we were not provided with soap in the room for the last few days. Perhaps a way to cut on expenses? We attempted to book an excursion near Hilo through the activities desk. It was a boat trip to view the lava flowing into the sea. The lady at the desk told us the lava had stopped flowing and that such a tour was considered dangerous. It turns out that the lava was indeed flowing and quite well. We booked the tour on our own. As the tour operator does not pay others to book for them, the hotel of course will not recommend such tours. Lying about the lava not flowing was pretty poor on the part of the hotel. Having said all of the above, the grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. All other hotel staff we spoke to very nice and most helpful, especially the valets. The restaurant, Rays, was great. Having dinner watching the mantas a few nights was very cool. The hotel could be a great place had it not been for a couple of experiences I had noted above. Once the hotel gets it act together, it will be perfect. The pool is fantastic and would be a kids dream. August 13, 2013
