Rated 3 out of 5 by Sleepless The "famous" bed
My first goal for my mini trip was a nice hotel, good location. Sheraton Read was both.
Hearing about the great beds, advertising about buying the beds, made me anticipate a great night sleep...I wouldn't know if the bed was all that it was suppose to be because i had to get up 3x in the night to put the sheets back on! It was like a twin bed with king sheets. They kept sliding off, bunching up etc. VERY DISAPPOINTING>

We checked into this hotel for a weekend anniversary get away.
Upon arrival it looks extremely impressive, really beautiful place & the valet was a plus.
When got to the counter to check in, we were greeted but felt rushed. And not recognized as preferred members. The desk rep initially gave us incorrect information about our stay & gave us NO information about the hotel. We had no clue where anything was & what services were available.
Once we got to our room, a King Suite, it was clean & spacious but had no fridge. Which we needed because we had a 2 night stay. We tried to call the front desk, but the option on our room phone didn't work.
We went back 2 the front desk & asked about the fridge/microwave. We were told we could have fridge brought up but there is only 1 microwave& it's in the club lounge. Which still nobody told us where this lounge was.
After we settled in our room & the fridge was brought up, we went out to get ice & the machine was broken.
So far this is the 1st day & we have 1 more day to go. Unfriendly staff & broken equipment. We'll see what day 2 brings. Right now this is our least favorite star wood hotel.

We decided to take a short weekend trip to Chattanooga and chose the Sheraton Read House. We loved the historic look with tall ceilings and old phone booths. Staff was courteous and happily suggested things to do and places to eat. The room was very nice and clean. Wish we would have brought swimsuits because the pool looked lovely with the waterfalls. Overall a great stay and we will be back!

Rated 4 out of 5 by MEMPHIS Older hotel with "classic" A/C
We loved staying at this older hotel but on this most recent visit the A/C system just couldn't keep the room comfortable for sleeping. We eventually asked for a fan and go one after repeated requests.
The valet parking is a bit cumbersome but the valets really hustled to keep things moving.
Would definitely come back but only if we can be assured that the air conditioning really works next time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Terry Excellent service/ Room Needs Improvement
My stay at the Read House was good. The staff were very helpful. My room 's (#517) air conditioner did work properly and did not cool the room. Fortunately, the night of my stay was comfortable because of the weather. I adjusted the thermostat but it still did not cool the room. I pointed this out to the staff the at checkout and they said they would take care of it. Other than that, the stay was very good.

Upon arrival the valet service was friendly and efficent. At check-in I signed up for the SPG and they upgraded my room. The staff was friendly and helpful with directions, locations to visit and places to hike. I would recommend this Hotel to anyone looking for a wonderful location to stay. We are looking forward to our next trip and will certainly stay at this Hotel again!
Thank you for a wonderful trip!

My wife and I stayed at the Sheraton Read House.....we occasionally come to Chattanooga for weekend getaways. The hotel met our needs....convenient to downtown venues. We found the room to be extremely comfortable and the Starbucks downstairs was a nice addition. Definitely would recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Christina2013 Best Hotel Experience So Far! Highly Recommend!
While traveling from Upstate New York to Georgia and back, my daughter and I came across this hotel by doing a quick Google search of the area and took a chance and booked a room for the night. To our surprise - this hotel was much more than we ever expected! The building itself is amazing with all the beautiful architecture! The rooms were very clean and extra-large giving you plenty of room to move around; and the beds were more than comfortable. One of the best parts of our stay though was the staff - they were extremely friendly, helpful and informative and even told us a little bit about the history of the building and went out of their way to show my daughter and I an area we were curious about. Just to name a few of the staff members who went out of their way to help us.......Ken, Dan and Roy.......THANK YOU sooo much for a wonderful stay in Chattanooga, we appreciated it very much!

The clerk who checked me in did not acknowledge my SPG gold membership, rushed through check in, and sent me to the wrong set of elevators. The room was just average. There was a wet spot on the carpet in front of the TV. The carpets in the corridors were very tired looking and not very clean. The valet guys were great.

Our company is relocating so many of us are traveling from Atlanta to Chattanooga & hotel of choice is The Sheraton Read House. This past visit 2/26-2/28/13 was unpleasant. I had to advise the front desk of an unclean bathroom that I do not want to elaborate on because it was that gross. Like I told the front desk the restrooms always need special attention & my last stay I had to "tidy" up as well

A great hotel to stay when visiting Chattanooga. Easy acess to the city via the free shuttle service with stop at the hotel.
Porter's offers excellent food and sevice (Adam &James).
The hotel staff is excellent from the front desk (Spencer & Ken) to the valet sevice (Roy & Taylor).

We had a one night stay at this hotel. Unfortunately, we were disappointed when they did not have the room type we reserved available when we arrived. We were then given a Junior Suite but again were disappointed by its size -- extremely small. And, the bathroom did not have any counter space at all. It was very difficult to put on makeup with all your supplies resting on the lip of the sink.

Rated 3 out of 5 by madelyne27 Nice room, awful bed.
I had booked a room at the Covenant College rate with two queen beds. After I made the reservation online, I called to make sure that the Covenant rate was okay and that I would have two beds.
After a nine hour drive, I check in and have a king bed, and a pull out sofa bed... at a higher price. I called and was told they would honor the original rate, but that they didn't have a room with two beds.
We shared the king bed because the pull out was awful... but the king bed was so uncomfortable. The head of the bed was lower than the end of the bed... and the mattress had a big "rut" in it, so it was difficult to roll over or even get out. My 20 year old daughter even said it gave her back pain, and she lives in a dorm.
Just very disappointed in the reservation, price, and bed... But the hotel and food and staff were great, as always. Valet parking is too expensive. $30/day for two cars is high.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Chetxyz Tired & Worn
Upon arrival, we were given a room on the 6th floor, however the front desk staff never told us that we needed to take a special elevator to get to our room -- we were late for a wedding and had to ask two other staff members how to get to our room. Once inside, the room was a huge disappointment. Although the size was large, the room was very used -- bedding appeared worn out and the bathroom was awful -- stained and chipped tub, dirty wallpaper and the worst shower we've ever had. I appreciate water conservation, but this was ridiculous -- the water trickled out like an RV. Mattress on the bed was worn out, with springs that squeaked loudly with every move. The room lacked an in-room frig, local magazines, etc. Drinks in the bar/restaurant were overpriced. The best part of the hotel was the lobby. For historical luxury we will try a B&B in the art district -- only wish we had chosen one first.

While the rooms are clean, quiet and comfortable the internet was very slow and unreliable on the 6th floor in the newer part of the hotel.I spoke with the internet help desk and they could not resolve the issue. I know it was not my computer because it worked I was able to get online in the hotel lobby. If internet is not important, this is a great hotel otherwise stay someplace else.

Rated 4 out of 5 by DRSTN Carelessly Updated
Recently updated but with little regards to detail. Sloppy painting, restroom had no counter to place anything on, shelf on wall was too small for tissue holder but they sat the holder there anyway... For the price I feel they could have appreciated their patrons by refurbishing with a little more care. Staff was very nice and helpful. Location was very good. Pool was substandard.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Bobbie52 The hotel was very different from any other we had ever stayed. Very beautiful in the lobby.
We checked in to our room and the a/c at first would not work . Then the TV would not work. Maintenance was called to our room. He got the A/C working and could not get the TV to work. So, we had to move to another room. There was a loud party next to our room, but the security took care of it, of course it was about 10:00 now. But the staff was very nice and very accommodating.

The bed was super comfortable! The Hot Tub/Spa was boarded up probably never to be fixed. No sanatizer in the workout room for wiping down the machines. The heat/ac control has no control over room temp. Didn't matter if it was set to 60 or 85- same air came out. A grand old hotel though. I'd still stay again. No free breakfast. No fridge in the rooms. Starbucks was good though.

Beautifully resored historic old hotel with modern ammenities right in the center of Chattanooga, walkable to most downtown sites. Wood panelled lobby makes you feel like you've stepped back in time and up in class. Rooms are large and comfortable. Why stay in a modern cookie-cutter motel, when you can have this beautiful old-world charm?

Rated 2 out of 5 by nashuf Hotel bathroom - ick
Though the area was decent and the room somewhat comfortable, my biggest complaint has got to be the bathroom. Never have I stayed in a hotel with a bathroom that was so dingy. The shower and tub were yellow and black with mold and grime, and the tile floor looked decades old. On top of that, the ENTIRE bathroom was wet after a shower. The walls (wallpaper, ew), door frame, floor, toilet, shelves etc. were covered with a thick layer of moisture following the shower. It was horrifying, and only made more sense as to why the mold existed in the shower: moisture. It's normal for a mirror or other surfaces to get somewhat foggy during/after a shower, but everything was DRIPPING wet. It was gross.
If I had seen a decent photo of the bathroom before I confirmed my reservation, I would never have stayed here.
Bathrooms need a serious upgrade, and until then, you shouldn't charge that much a night to stay in a room with a bathroom with mold in it. No thanks. Stay somewhere else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by KathiSC Nice Change from Off Interstate Hotels
It was great to stay in a beautiful downtown hotel with character and charm. I often stay in a hotel close to airport or off the interestate for convenience when I travel for business. This was a really pleasant change! The staff was very helpful from the valet to the front desk. I was not a member of SPG, but they explained the program and completed my enrollment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Dean73 The ambiance of the Read House is wonderful
From the time we made our reservations until we left, we were treated with courtesy. The staff made sure that we were comfortable. In the wee small hours of the night on March 2nd, a smoke detector activated and we had to evacuate. It was handled in a professional manner, the staff was reassuring and we were able to return to our rooms in a reasonable amount of time.

The Read house is a majestic, historic property. The lobby and rooms reflected its great heritage. We had breakfast in the main restaurant and the room was in concert with the rest of the hotel and the meal was outstanding.
The staff was cordial and helpful. The parking valet was nice enough to direct us to a music festival being held near the hotel.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Read House Hotel in Chattanooga. The front desk, housekeeping, and valet staffs were extremely helpful and professional. They really set the standard for great customer service! The room was very clean and spacious with nice amenities. The only minor disappointment was that the hot tub was out of order while we were there.

The room air conditioner was not working. Moved 4 times in a 30 min span. The last room the air conditioner still didn't work. Called for someone to come and see about it. No one showed up! Room was not cleaned even when we returned at 10pm. When the staff was contacted they only sent up clean towels and did not offer to have the room cleaned.

My husband and I spent the night at the Read House over the holidays while visiting family. The room was spacious and luxuriously decorated. The bedding had crisp, clean linens with lots of pillows and a comfy comforter to snuggle under. Starbucks coffee in the room was a really nice touch. We will definitely go back since we visit there often!

The Sheraton Read House always provides the perfect stay when visiting my daughter in college.
The staff is so nice. Everyone stops and says hello and always asks if they can help with directions or recommendations.
Location is perfect. Near downtown, North Shore, great restaurants, and an easy drive to the airport and shopping at Hamilton.

Loved the beautiful lobby, ornate decor, friendly service upon our super late arrival, beds were soooo comfortable, clean crisp linens, and family thrilled over the Starbucks downstairs. If I had to change something, I would update the bath tub/tile and bathroom walls. Truly enjoyed our stay tho. We will visit again next Chattanooga trip!
