This hotel is in the heart of Old Town San Juan. To my surprise, my upgraded junior suite had new carpeting, didn’t smell musty, and had two flat screen TVs. It was a corner room with an odd “U” shaped layout. The bathroom didn’t look to have been renovated, but it was clean. The water pressure in the shower was also excellent. Due to the central location, expect to hear noise from your room from people on the street and cars driving. It’s noticeable, but not terrible.
As a Platinum amenity, I was given the choice of 500 points, continental breakfast, or a free movie. As this Sheraton doesn’t have an Executive Lounge, I felt it was cheap of the hotel to make you choose between breakfast or points. Valet parking is $21.40/day (including tax).
WiFi is free to all guests; no password needed. A downside to this was that Internet speeds were too slow to be of use during the afternoons. The gym is open 24/7 and has a decent collection of cardio machines and weights. Housekeeping gets to rooms pretty late – they would show up in my room around 5pm each day.
The hotel is within walking distance of everything in Old Town, although factoring in the heat at times, that may not be a great idea. An alternative to walking is the free trolley, with a stop 2 blocks away from the hotel.

Overall, I was quite satisfied with the Sheraton Old San Juan. Location was ideal being right in the area with many restaurants, shops, and sites. Though we didn't gamble, there is the casino right there as well. Taxis from the airport were at least set price but you need to pay in cash, and the dock where the ferries (and cruise ships) were right across the street. You can take ferry to other side of bay. Within the city, walking is ideal though for some people, perhaps the roads may be steep to get to the north end, yet there is also a trolley bus that goes around the city as well for free though who knows the trolley schedule and walking is so much easier. Staff were incredibly friendly and even held our luggage after check-out so we could tour the city before we departed this town and gave great advice on using public transportation when asked about options. I was there for meetings that were being held at this Sheraton which was ideal. The only issue is their magnetic card which on several occasions did not work for our room. For the two-night stay, we had to go down and get a key reset three times, in addition my husband had to call them from the fitness room since he couldn't get back into the room after working out which they sent someone up, but without a key because they needed ID which of course is great security precaution yet was inside the room. However, everything else, the room, pool which is on the 9th floor outdoors with gorgeous view of the bay, fitness center, location, thank goodness internet service were excellent and again the staff were very friendly. Apparently all hotels in Puerto Rico have additional surcharge fees in addition to all the taxes on top of your rate so just be aware of it since they add up tremendously. Yet, this hotel definitely meets the Sheraton standards and if I didn't know better, they must somehow arrange for the beautiful weather!!

For a Sheraton this place is at the bottom of the heap. When I checked in I had a reservation for the first three nights through Southwest Airlines, and one night directly through Sheraton. When the desk clerk gave me my room key with a departure date of 1/22 I told him it was wrong; he checked the computer and said my reservation was good through 1/23; I asked him to change the departure date on the key card he did so reluctantly. So on the night of 1/22 I was given my final bill which meant that I would not get 500 points for not having clean linens and towels. The "Green Concept" is about conserving water, detergent and energy. This hotel decided that it means NO room service at all. In other words if I was out of toilet paper or coffee that was just too bad plus no clean up in the bathroom let alone making the bed. Upon initial arrival the room was at a temperature of 68 degrees with the fan on full and continuous; this is certainly not very green; On the 22nd the maid service thought I was leaving and cleaned the room despite the fact that I hung my "green" card on the door the night before and when I came back to the room after breakfast the temperature was again set at 68 degrees, the fan on full and continuous. The hotel elevators were a shambles and DIRTY with floor level indicators barely legible.I asked the concierge if there were any city/area tours available and he just laughed and said "we don't do that"; I ,also asked if there were any restaurants that served tapas and he said no. BOTH REPLYS WERE WRONG. The service at the Chicago Burger place was TERRIBLE. I have no idea whether I was credited with 500 points per night for declining linen service. My room key had to be recoded four different times in four days. Overall the room was poorly lit and bright only when the afternoon sun was pointed directly at the SINGLE window with NO view at all. I would only recommend this dump to someone who wanted to stay in the casino every moment it was open. This was supposed to be a very special occasion to celebrate my wife's 93rd birthday which I specifically mentioned to the Sheraton reservation clerk and asked her to be sure this was brought to the hotel's attention.

I arrived at the hotel about 10 am with a 2 night prepaid reservation - Cross Rewards Diamond status. I was promptly told - NO rooms would be available until after 3pm. I asked if I could be notified if something became available any sooner. She took my cell phone. At 1pm I inquired again - nothing until 3pm I was told again. At 2 I walked by the desk and saw people just arriving and being given keys - I went to the desk again and was given a key. The room was a nice upgrade - so I thought ok - I accept the wait - I immediatly noticed the commode was not functioning at all - I called the Ft Desk and they said they would send some one right up - 30 minitues later the Ft. Desk called to inquire if it was repaired. I said no one has even come yet - they said they would check on it - shortly there after the engineer arrived and determined that the toilet "insides" had to be replaced - he went in seach of the parts - installed them and then discovered it was leaking and needed a new connecting hose - he left again and returned with it and then installed it- housekeeping had to return and clean the bathroom floor was which covered in water. By the time everyone had completed their jobs it was past 5pm and I could finally access my bathroom to use the toilet and take a shower. No one ever followed up again and no apologies were forthcoming - I was not pleased at this lack of followup- it was a 3 hour ordeal. That night I put out the hang tag for no housekeeping service in lieu of points or F& B credit. The next morning - I noticed that I had received nothing under the door as I have experienced at other properties. I stopped by the front desk and explained the situation - they attempted to make several phone calls to verify this but no one they called ever answered their phone calls. She finally said - well do you want the points and I said well yes -I didn't recieve housekeeping service today and that was the whole point of the card. Another hassle. I loved the location and I did enjoy the nice big suite - but the overall service left me wondering if I would ever stay there again or recommend it to business colleagues. I would like a followup response please.
