Checked in late Sunday, room wasn't what
had been described when I made reservation. The personnel at the front desk promptly found us a better room, met us at the new room with a set of keys. I appreciated the willingness to satisfy, and do so promptly. Then same gentleman gave me a great recommendation for a local restaurant. Well done on all counts!

Former West Des Moines resident and needed to stay in the area recently. Since I was familiar with the hotel, I thought it would be the best place to stay. Wow! They have done an excellent job with this place and I would recommend it to anyone staying in the area. I was greeted immediately by Matt at the front desk when I arrived. His service was well beyond anything you'd expect in a chain hotel. All of my requests were met with a smile including an early morning check-in due to delayed flights from Dallas. The suite I stayed in was great, nice leather sofa, new TV's and very comfy beds. They have done great things with the lobby restaurant and bar area which welcomes everyone as they arrive. Housekeeping staff was very efficient, speedy and thorough. Price was right too!! :)

Wife & I arrived early afternoon & checked in for both our room & room for daughter who was arriving later. Rooms 703 & 706. When daughter arrived at 2 am, she was told there were no rooms available. Your staff wanted to send her 30 mins away to another property. After lengthy delay, they finally got their room. Not handled well!

Had to dicker with desk to obtain gold level upgrade. I'M Lifetime gold with long history of staying at this hotel. Ended up paying an addl $30 nite, another $150, to have upgraded room and Club amenities. Used to get this upgrade for no extra charge. The Club is open for brief periods only AM and early evening for nightly "hors d oueveres," Frid nite was cheese and crackers and some grapes. Didn't use other nites. Breakfast on par with most "free breakfast " at cheaper hotels. Lovely Club room, attendants excellent. 2 room "suite" is actually a small living room area, pull out couch, with door to large king size bed area BUT the bathroom is in bedroom which means a lot of door shutting, turning on lights etc. disturbing the king bed occupants. I would not pay for this "upgrade" again. Great locale, free parking/ airport shuttle, terrific driver took a bit of the sting out of what I paid in money and points. Used to be that gold level really meant something. Not any more.

My wife and I stayed here for a date night. I'd ordered flowers to be delivered to the hotel that were supposed to be at the front desk upon check in per my request. When we checked in, they were not there and nobody knew where they were. When we got into the room, they had been put there. Kinda ruined the surprise. Also the overall hotel is pretty dirty. Stains on all the carpets give a dirty feel. Room was nice, but overall hotel was pretty dirty and in need of some overhauling. Average experience.

I had to call the front desk to get the proper amount of large towels for our room and the bathroom toiletries were not restocked on our second day.
I called the front desk for a wake-up call on the first day of our stay and the phone never rang. Fortunately, I set the alarm on my cell phone and we didn't miss our daughter's volleyball tournament start time. This hotel is not even near any of the volleyball venues in Des Moines, so I'm not even sure why we stay there.
Not worth the value.....

So there really is not much choice if one wants to stay at a Starwood property in Central Iowa. That said, this basic 1980's or 1990's hotel is not bad. The front desk staff is friendly and competent. The lounge was radically understaffed and grossly overcrowded. The suite I was upgraded to had neither a refrigerator nor microwave. As a platinum, I was given the best suite in the house without asking....an increasing rarity among Starwood properties. Everything worked! The place is spotless.

Facilities did not meet our expectations. Room needed to be updated. Carpet was loose and coming off the floor. Bathroom was dated, tub was old and needed to be replaced.
Coffee in room was great - Starbucks. AC outlets were plentiful. Bed was comfy. Buffet breakfast had a great variety and food was good.

Not a bad hotel, just not a value for the nightly rate. Went here for a convention. Feels more like a two decade old $75 night hotel in good condition. Way short on reception staff when I arrived. Took 15 minutes to check two people in ahead of me in line. Convention was short on space for breakouts, meetings, reception. Everything was pushed out in the main lobby. Guests not part of the conference were crashing the food and refreshments set out, raiding the tables put out by seminar hosts for trinkets. The hotel is clean, convenient, but not a good place for a conference, and certainly not worth $185 for a very simple room. And by the way, there is hardly room to swing the bathroom door shut. The door almost hits the toilet and the vanity counter. Yes, it's that kind of economy motel bath.

This Sheraton has seen better days. When you walk in, you are immediately greeted by the smell of chlorine from the fountain in the lobby. The hotel is very damp, and the carpets on the room floor lobbies are bunched and stained. Both my towels and sheets had old stains on them that clearly could not be removed, despite the strong scent of bleach used. Mattress is old fashioned and hard. The only reason that I stay here is b/c it is the only hotel in the area approved by my company.

Everything was fine but when ordering a Zinfandel in the club lounge I was given a White Zinfandel. Not the same thing but she said she had already poured it, so... not the best service in the Club Lounge.

Enjoyed the hotel overall. Used a combination of points and cash for a club level room, which was good overall. Now the exceptions. Bed was pretty hard and uncomfortable...not what you usually get at a Starwood hotel. The attendant in the club room made several disparaging comments about the food she was serving, not only to us but to others in the room. Very odd to hear the club room employee talk about how bad she thought the bacon was, or how the eggs are reconstituted and far from fresh.

We only stayed at the hotel for 1 night while we were moving across country. The hotel staff was very friendly. The front desk agents were great. They got me checked in and out very quickly and met my needs at the same time. The only problem was the elevators. There were only 2, and there were a lot of sports (kids) teams staying there. However, I could have taken the stairs.
The best part of my stay was the robe. I called down to ask for one and it was there within a couple minutes.

We stayed here and had a terrible time. The property is in disrepair and dirty all over. Carpet in room and halls horribally stained and worn, food on booths in breakfast area, ripped fabric in booths, worn paint on walls and doors and yellow stains on comforter in the room. Yuk! The breakfast buffet in the morning was all cold. I would never recommend this to anyone I know until it is properly cleaned and maintained. There are many better choices of places to stay in West Des Moines

This is my favorite hotel to stay at when working in the Des Moines area. Always clean and comfortable with a friendly staff who go the extra mile for customers. Their are lots of amenities and the hotel frequently updates the property to make your stay even better. Great location for reaching all of my clients, and located near several major highways.

We stayed at this hotel for one week. The room was extremely dark and uncomfortable. For two consecutive days the room was not even cleaned! Do not stay at this hotel.

Really, only a couple of things could have really improved my stay. First, a refrigerator in the room is nice, especially for a multi-night stay. There isn't a fridge in the room. Second, free WiFi access. I think it's rediculous to have to pay $10 per day. I tethered my phone to avoid this, but I still find it discouraging and would look at other hotels in the area that may have free access to WiFi. By the way, the paid WiFi is per device, hope you don't have multiple devices.

Our room smelled like either somebody who hadn't showered for a month or a deodorizer trying to cover-up the odor of somebody who hadn't showered for a month.
Elevators were filled with wet unchaperoned childern who the hotel eventually assigned their own security guard.
Bar had an excellent selection of wine and the bartender indulged us with late night bar snacks because there was other food available after 11PM.

A renovation is needed. Carpet stains all over, in room, in hallway, etc.
Room had a sick sweet smell, like fermented peaches. Not at all pleasant.
Bed was rock hard, and shower clogged up every day.
Staff was pleasant.

If you only look at the carpet of the halls (the hallways that lead to the rooms) you would think this was a run-down dirty hotel. However, this hotel is clean and well kept. The carpet in the halls is stained and has many "bubbles". With the right heals a lady may make a hole in the carpet, they are that bad. The only other issue is the desk chair. I travel every week and this is the only hotel I have ever seen that has a desk chair without wheels let alone arms.

I am very disappointed in the Sheraton for the services it "did not" provide us. No one advised us that the shuttle did not run late hours if your plane was delayed. Or if you have a flight out before 7am, the shuttle does not run for the customers only for the "crew members". That in itself made the last straw, for I've never visited Iowa before and this was a foreign state to me. They offered no other accommodations, only to call a cab for us. Unsatisfactory!

This was my first time in a sheraton, and building was pretty nice and clean. Parking was not an issue at all. When I showed up, I was tossed into a room with two beds even though my reservation was for one, and I still paid the single rate.
The food was not too good, but I did rent a car as well and there were plenty of other nearby places to eat. The bed was really comfortable for me and I slept better on it than I do at home.
I did manage to get into the gym/pool area. The gym is nothing to brag about. They have basic equipment for an at-home gym (mainly dumbbells, couple benches, one cable machine and a few treadmills). The pool is salt-watered, which I liked. If you plan on staying there longer and plan to use a gym, you may need to rent a car and travel to the Planet Fitness that is located a few miles from the hotel.

This was my first stay at this hotel. Everything was fine until checkout. There was a guest checking out in front of me and I patiently waited behind them. Just as another personnel came to the front desk, another guest walked up to them, cutting in line. I politely said that I have been waiting and that I was in a hurry to checkout. The personnel completely ignored me and proceeded to checkout the other guest. It's OK to make mistakes but not OK to be rude.

This hotel did not come close to meeting my expectations for a Sheraton. I checked in late in the evening and the floor in my room was wet, it was 10:30 at night and I had to switch to another room. I got to that room and it had a horrible smell. I did not want to deal with moving all of my stuff yet again, so I stayed assuming it would fade. It did not. There was no bathroom fan, or ability to open windows, so I was stuck with it. I felt dirty the entire stay and checked out early, even though I was charged $75 just to leave. I did not want to stay there even one more night. If my conference was not at the hotel, I would have left the night I got there and stayed somewhere else. I complained about both things and was not offered anything for the inconvience. I will never stay there again, and I will tell my friends not to stay there. The only nice thing I can say is that the food was very good.

For a very high price there are very few basic amenities. No internet available in rooms unless you pay, extremely long wait to get elevator because they only have 2-with 10 floors this is a problem, no fridge OR microwave in room, only double beds, no hot tub, and finally not even a cup of coffee available anywhere in the lobby. We have stayed in dozens of hotels in the last 2 years and this is by far the most limited in amenities for the price.

This hotel is in desperate need of repairs. From the moment you walk in, you can tell it hasn't seen a fresh coat of paint since Beverly Hills 90210 was on the air. The carpet throughout is full of stains and my first room assignment wreaked, with a giant burn hole in the carpet in the middle of the room.
Second room was better, but only to find critter in the bathroom and no hot water.

I typically stay here when I travel to Des Moines. The rooms are nicely appointed and the bed is comfy. It's also closely situated near a number of restaurants and shopping, like Target, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Kohl's, etc.
I stayed in suite 233 this week. Only problem I had was with the sink in the outer bathroom, which didn't drain. The one inside the bathroom was fine, though, so I used that.
