This hotel is NOT a typical Sheraton. While the staff was pleasant, there were numerous little things that made my stay less that stellar.
When we first checked in and entered our room, we were amazed that there was no safe for valuables and no refrigerator. I've come to expect those things in a Shaperaton, so I was very surprised this one did not have them.
The room was nice and cool and seemed to be clean, but upon entering the bathroom we discovered a used tampon in the trash can. I will spare you the gory details. Again, not your typical Sheraton experience.
We stayed in the hotel three nights and were gone during the day enjoying the Iowa State Fair. The second day we returned in the evening to find out room door ajar. We immediately called the hotel staff. Fornunately, because there was no a safe in the room, we had been taking all our important things and locking them in our car trunk every day. So nothing was missing. Management explained it away by saying housekeeping must not have closed the door all the way. They said they would talk to housekeeping to let them know there was a problem. No warm fuzzies here.
My last comment is that the food is awful. We wondered why there was no one in the restaurant when we went down at dinner time. It was 6:00 pm and the place was completely empty, even though there was a convention going on in the hotel at the time. Well, we found out why. The food was lousy. We should've gone to the McDonald's across the street. They offer a breakfast buffet, but when we saw that very few people were eating in there, we opted to find a cafe somewhere else.
To sum up, this hotel is NOT your typical Sheraton.

It was an enjoyable stay, we were there to visit friends and attend the state fair. Everything worked out great, Only issue is that the charge on my bank was more then the charge should have been by more then $20. I spoke with MOD, no additional charges were identified so giving it a couple of days to see if correction is made. Otherwise very nice hotel.

Was here a year ago. Back again this year, 7/26-28.
Front desk folks are polite, and staff in general was good.
Restaurant breakfast buffet on 7/27 was...ok. Seemed to be understaffed, as person there when I arrived was holding down the fort for another employee who should have been there, but was called away for another task. Not her fault, just short staffed it appeared. Juice machine was out of service, they put out small bottles of apple and orange juices, I was looking for cranberry. Nobody was manning the omelette stations
Overall appearance was just ok. carpet outside rooms appears very old and dingy, some odd smells floating around.
My room was quite cold, took the whole first night to get up to 78 degrees, where I preferred
Most disturbing thing I didn't notice until the day I checked out. The smoke detector on the ceiling of my room had a plastic bag wrapped around it, for what reason I am not sure, other than maybe a previous guest hoping to get away with having a cigarette? I haven't smoked for 14 years so I'm sure I'd have smelled it if that had been the case.
Next time I need to be in Des Moines, I'll likely look elsewhere, although the location was convenient to my needs.

I just wanted to thank the staff of Sheraton West Des Moines. I have been staying here almost all nights since July 8th and will have my final night here tomorrow due to a long work project I had here. the pool facility and gym were great (pool a little cold but nice to cool off on hot days I understand plus the room is heated nicely), I stayed in 4 different rooms as id check out for a night or two to run down to Kansas City here and there, only 1 room ever smelled like cigarettes as I assume the person before me must have been a smoker. They made so many different accommodations for me throughout my stay. Shoutout to the whole front desk staff for going above and beyond to help me, Jessica who would help me with crazy early morning check ins after working all night long some days, and Nick the f&b manager for going above and beyond to help me, other guests, but most importantly the staff under him. Such a great quality to have in a manager. Its not often you see a manager bussing tables, running food, cleaning, and being an all around stand up guy. Thanks for making this long trip away from home bearable!

The food is good and most of staff are nice and helpful. But I have to say the wedding is bad as the sheet smells and feel bad as the pillow is too soft.

Very poor guest services and was not friendly. They messed our room up and never apologized once for the inconvenience. The only thing he could say was that's not what it says.

Booked a room for my wife and myself and a separate room for my business partner to travel delays it happened that my wife and business partner would check in first..called ahead to make sure would get my Platinum amenities and although assured it would happen it did not....as Platinum member requested a late check out and no fewer than six times - housekeeping entered our room- even with the do not disturb sign....the charges for the rooms were all screwed up and no response from hotel as to getting it corrected...not a good stay
