I lived in Austin for over 30 years and have attended many functions at this hotel. Now I live out of town but return on business quite frequently. All of the staff, from the front desk to the bartenders are fantastic and go out of their way to make us feel like we are home. Every once in a while we get a perk, like a suite, comped parking, or a free breakfast. The only downside I could mention is that I think they have been discovered, as it now seems that I am finding more nights full or with farily marked up rates than that of a year ago. Still, my primary place for downtown Austin.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Virginia25 Luxurious comfort so close to the capitol.
We chose this hotel because of it's close proximity to the capitol. This was our first visit to Austin as a family. Having lived overseas for many years we have grown accustomed to four, five, and seven star hotels. We were impressed with the service, spacious rooms, comfortable beds, and incredible city and capitol views. The sparkling pool and spa were fabulously refreshing after a long day of sight seeing and touring the city of Austin. There are many restaurants and areas of interest within walking distance of the hotel. The business club on our floor provided wonderful service, a great place to socialize, network, and hang out. We enjoyed our stay completely and are already planning on returning for another visit.

Great location, easy walk to all points of interest. Inside the hotel, expect some difficulty connecting universal plugs for electronic devices

I'm very unhappy with the cancellation policy of your hotel. You told me that because I wanted to rearrange my stay from two nights to one night that I would have to incur a charge of $199 for the night that I wanted to keep. I've been an SPG member and a Starwood Harborside at Atlantis own for the past 9 years. Incidentally, I was able to book a room at your hotel for Saturday evening for $159 dollars through Priceline. That room should have been offered to me when I was in the process of trying to rearrange my schedule.

Rated 3 out of 5 by CindyN Quiet hotel but needs improvements
My friend and I booked this hotel for the ACL weekend. Although the hotel was quiet it is in need of repairs and improvements.
Our room had a pocket door for the bathroom. The latch for the pocket door was broken and falling off. The metal ring around the shower head had fallen off the wall and the curtain covering the main window had brown stains on it. The toliet also would not flush. We notified the front desk, they immediately had the door latch screwed back on and fixed the shower head. I actually forgot to look at the curtain to see if it had been changed or washed.
We came in late that night and then discovered the toliet was now leaking water from the wall if we used it, therefor we had to continually go downstairs to use the main bathroom in the lobby during the night.
The sheets are also very scratchy and uncomfortable.
The staff did attempt to rectify the problems, however the housekeeping staff needs to let the maintenance team know of items that need repaired!
The staff gave us free breakfast coupons and took $100 off our bill, but I feel the property needs to have a good walk through to see where different problems need addressed on a regular basis.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Blackout Sheraton Austin has Blackout Dates
SPG policy is there are no blackout dates for using points. SPGs website says, "Free Night Awards are available when you need them to be. That means if a standard room is available, it’s yours, even during holidays and big events." However, when there is a UT football game, you CANNOT use your points for a stay even when a standard room is available. Standard rooms are offered on a prepaid basis and somehow they claim this makes the normally standard room non-standard. This is simply a cover up of a blackout date, It's a date points can't be used for the exact same room that points can be used on another date. It's a blackout date. UT football game (a big event) equals no using points for a standard room at the Sheraton. It's misleading, a ripoff . . . a blackout date!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Austinwannabe Room 433- Sheraton Austin at the Capitol
We stayed in 433 and either the staff door (into an office a few feet down the hall) or the swinging doors (also a few feet down the hall through which Housekeeping push laundry carts) is very, very squeaky and somewhat obnoxious and definitely audible in the room.
The conference rooms were freezing, more so than other facilities' conference rooms.
I'm still trying to get my invoice to reflect the first three nights, billable to my employer, separate from the last night, which I paid for.

Rated 4 out of 5 by SPGStayer123 Great clean hotel, with some needed improvements
I stayed here for a few days for a conference and arrived late at night. The staff was quick to help get me in and easily available for services, requests, and room service. The hotel is clean, staff is great and rooms are clean.
Room service was timely, delicious and reliable.
As for critiques, I had made a club room reservation, which is overrated at this hotel. The club room, while always available, rarely has food in it, other than drinks. The food was sub-par at best and would not warrant the increased rate, which doesn't include any alcohol. So $30 - $50 for sub-par food/breakfast and soda...is unfounded.
As for the room service, while it was good, there was a delivery charge (which I never understand since there is no other option to pick up the food yourself) when room service implies a delivery and already included a self-satisfying 20%.

I arrived at midnight and looked through the menu to order food. The menu table of contents listed a late night menu but nothing was listed within the menu itself. I called the front desk and was told all food service was closed at 11pm...how can a Sheraton hotel not have a late menu?? I was told I could order pizza instead....no thanks,

Rated 2 out of 5 by Blackout Lacking Service and Quality of SPG Property
We have the unfortunate circumstances of having stayed at this property many times. It is near the University of Texas, which is it's only redeeming value. The rooms are small, no special service/greeting for SPG members, no upgrades, frequent maintenance problems, loud guests partying in Austin, very limited room availability for SPG points, etc etc. It seems each stay is less satisfactory than the one before. Our last visit, I waited for 15 minutes at the platinum check -in while the 2 staff served non-SPG guests that walked up after me. Then, when finally served, they asked me to sign an agreement that I would behave while in their hotel (eg. not be noisy & obnoxious) Really! Then I had the great pleasure of a non-concierge room with loud obnoxious guests partying in the hallways keeping me up all night. Nothing to be done by SPG staff called numerous times. We ONLY stay here because it is near UT. Otherwise, we would consider it COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. If you are platinum/lifetime SPG member, do not expect any special treatment here. If you enjoy a frat house experience, by all means stay here.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Dokester Another Great Stay
The Austin Sheraton is located perfectly, close to major arteries, but away from the congestion of being right smack downtown. Easy to get anywhere. The property is in great condition, and the staff are helpful and friendly. I hadn't visited the hotel in a few years, and it was just as great as the last time we were there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by poohuahua No internet access and noise
I arrived in the room and immediately could get on the internet without using the password given to me. After that I never could get on again.
My room was adjacent to the elevators. Although it wasn't a major problem, I thought the building was breathing for a while until I figured out what the noise was.

This hotel looks, feels and smells like it hadn't been updated since the mid nineties. My room had a strange odor and was plain and boring in comparison to what I paid. Staff was helpful and food was great. This place needs a makeover bad.

If you use their online registration, don't expect to get any of the things you put in the remarks section and ask for, like your group rate that was prearranged. They also will charge your card one month ahead of time and not refund you any money for any reason.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Lisa3028 So Frustrated
For the cost of this hotel I was very upset with the evacuation process and lack of communication. Was awoken at 12:30, ordered to evacuate my room, which I did. I completely understand emergencies and situations that are beyond the control of the facilities like a fire. What I don't understand is how I sat there for over an hour without any communication... no hotel management announcement "We understand you want to get back to your rooms, we are investigating the problem, we will update you as we know more..." we watched as the front desk continued to check people into upper level rooms and made the conclusion that it was only certain floors that were evacuated. We watched fire department & hotel employees walk around, aimlessly... again no communication whatsoever as to what what happening for an hour. I had been up since 3 am, and was in dire need of rest, so this interruption in my night, no communication for an hour, then was told after an hour it was okay to go back to my room by the fireman (NOT by the hotel staff - which remained completely silent). Then when I went to check-out 7:30, the cheery desk agent had no idea what had occurred and wasn't in any position to make things correct.. for a $300 per night facility, I would at the very least have expected communication by the staff and a better handling of an emergency situation.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Redmnt Room not cleaned
Just came back to my room, 826.
It is 8.40pm and the room has not been cleaned.
I am staying for three nights and am been charged an amount in excess of $2,000 due to some events in town.
At this rate not even having the room cleaned is simply unacceptable.

Came in for the Austin Marathon and had a great experience. The hotel is older but offers a great fitness center/pool area and the staff make up for the aging building. It was a little noisy but thats to be expected on a weekend in Downtown Austin.

This hotel has a great location for my work. So, I'll keep staying there.
However, its pretty worn and the arrogance of the staff moves on to the do not recommend list for me.
If you're in that area of town for a specific reason, book elsewhere.

Was very impressed with this hotel. Nice indoor/outdoor pool that allowed use during both the warmer and cooler February days, and coupled with a spacious hot tub. Great BBQ lunch buffet at a very reasonable price. Overall a great stay!

Aside from a great bar staff, I was dissapointed that I received no upgrade on a very slow Friday night and paid $26 for parking. The hallways smelled like old shoes but the rooms were spacious and the area is nice.

Rated 1 out of 5 by JosephT2010 Rooms Not Ready and No Communication
Upon arrival at 6pm, my two rooms were not available. The front desk staff said no rooms were available but housekeeping should have something reading in a few hours. My wedding party needed something immediately to drop our stuff and change prior to a 7pm dinner reservation, so 8 of us were forced to change in a small king-sized-bed room. I requested the front staff to call and notify me when our rooms would be ready; they took my number and agreed. I never received a phone call, and later that evening when we returned to the hotel, I had to re-explain the situation to the front desk staff to claim our rooms. After receiving our new room keys, our group went back to our single temporary room to gather our belongings, except our key cards no longer worked and someone else was in the room. Turns out the hotel staffed moved all of our belongings into the new hotel rooms without notifying me as they previously agreed to. This is unnacceptable. They did not have our rooms ready, there was no communication, and they management did not have our permission to move our belongings. They screwed up big time. I will never use book with Sheraton hotels ever again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by AustinBride2013 Fantastic Staff for a great wedding!
I can't say enough about how Adela and the rest of the staff made my stay everything I could have dreamt of. I had lost my wedding ceremony site twice before I realized that the Sheraton had everything I needed. I mean the prices alone were incredible! Adela not only helped coordinate everything onsite (including the people) but also preplanned a fantastic rain-back up when a tropical storm suddenly blew through town. Everyone was so kind and helpful, even when dealing with the insanity of ACL weekend in Austin. And my View WAS AMAZING! So happy I decided to book two nights there in addition to the wedding itself despite being a local. Wow!
