Rated 4 out of 5 by Restaurant Nice hotel except for the restaurant - mediocre food and very slow service. I was part of a large conference and your staff was not prepared for many people as they should have been. Wireless in lobby didn't work, ok in the room July 6, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by room for room improvement Suggestions for room improvement: -remove smoke smells in non-smoker rooms -replace old and noisy AC -provide an adjustable desk chair on request (the standard chair is too low for tall guests) -improve the look an dcontent of the hotel information e.g. opening times of restaurant -provide precise conditions and food&drink options on the voucher for the green option. The staff is professional and customer focussed. The IT support service is excellent, with thanks July 2, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by I will never stay at this hotel again! I stayed at the hotel for 4 days & 3 nights. The room was comfortable and clean upon check-in. The second day I left the hotel at 7:30 am. I returned to the room that evening to find that my door was not locked!! Luckily nothing appeared to be missing but the front desk didn't seem very concerned and I was told that housekeeping would contact me to discuss but that never happened. That night I noticed a stain on the sheet. The next morning (Day 3) I stopped at the front desk and asked to have Housekeeping change the sheets. When I arrived back to my room at approximately 4:30 pm, the sheets had not been changed and my room had not been cleaned at all. When I called the front desk, I was merely told that they have until 5:00 pm to clean the room. Approximately 15 minutes later, housekeeping arrived to clean. July 1, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Mediocrity Poster Child When I arrived in my room, I found an air purifier running. The reason became apparent in a few minutes because my eyes started to burn. Reason? The room had been occupied by a smoker or smokers and reeked of smoke - not what you want to deal with upon arrival. I was assigned another room - no smoke there but the AC barely kept the room cool. The next morning, my room service breakfast was delivered 30 minutes late, so there was no time to eat it (although nicely presented). The room and its furniture also looked tired and dated. All-in-all, not a pleasant stay. I do not take pleasure in writing such a review, but "it is what it is". May 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Nice place to recharge We stayed one night and visited University of Maryland the next day. Everything was great and the staff was so friendly and accommodating. It was a short drive to U of MD, and the surrounding town was cute. Breakfast in the club room was fantastic, fresh strawberries and fruit, eggs, oatmeal, and a latte/coffee machine, make your own, yum. Everything in our room looked new and had a luxury feel, very nice, bed was heavenly! It was a little noisy, our air unit was loud, but I bring earplugs to all hotels so not a problem. The workout room was clean and new and had everything we needed. Great hotel, I'd look forward to staying there again. August 18, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Club Service I paid extra hoping to have the connivence of the club level before my interviews. Went to get breakfast place filthy and no dishes to get food. This was at 8:15-8:30 waited hoping someone would show. Went back to my room to call and complain and got nothing but excuses. Went back at 9:00 and they where packing everything away. Was beyond a waste of money along with the room service that provided molded berries and a soggy/ cold mushroom burger. The room was comfortable and the girl who checked me in was nice. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone after that stay. Especially business travelers on a schedule..... September 19, 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Visit! Everyone demonstrated excellent customer service. I would like to commend Winnie for her fine service as she found my SPG number for me thereby ensuring that points were awarded to my account. June 24, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Clean hotel with very accomodating staff Hotel was very nice and clean, shuttle service to nearby shopping was prompt, and the staff was very friendly, making sure we were taken care of. Winnie at the front desk was extremely helpful and thoughtful. We arrived early and she checked us in as soon as a room was available. June 22, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Hotel ammenities The hotel location is good for Silver Spring but ammenities are costly. Parking and WIFI are expensive. No refrigerator in room and Ice machines on multiple floors not working. Reservation was incorretly canceled so room requested was not avaiable. May 27, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by a bit rundown, but exellent staff The hotel has seen better days, probably long past. We had some problems getting into the garage; our key cards didn't work and we had to seek front desk help twice. The hallways were rundown, and when I went to get ice in the night, the ice machine room had no light; I had to use the flashlight feature on my cellphone. But staff were proactive in all my interactions with them, and all we encountered at the hotel were friendly and really seemed to care about making us feel welcome and well cared for. The breakfast buffet was also kind of tired looking; not a great assortment of foods. April 28, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by A very well-managed, Great place to stay. The hotel staff are all smiles with can-do and customer-first attitudes. I think the front line can make a hotel, and they do! The rooms are spacious, clean, comfortable. The housekeeping staff are very responsive with friendly willingness to accommodate us. The hotel's location is perfect, with access to downtown Silver Spring and the metro to Wash, DC, via the hotel's convenient shuttle service. I've stayed many times and will continue to do so. Parking is convenient, though there is a charge unless you get it free with a special rate. May 20, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Not what I expect from Sheraton This was a complete surprise as my family stays in Sheratons often. More than once during my stay, the staff forgot to clean my room, refill the coffee, towels, etc. Not a pleasant surprise when I come back at night wanting to go to bed. Also, the breakfast in the morning was very plain and they forgot to mention that during the holidays they are not serving it, but yet they are charging me for it. After complaining, they gave us a ticket to eat downstairs at the restaurant. The front desk staff was helpful but after the fact. July 8, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by never again room had dripping water in soffit all night air conditioner sounded like a lawn mower water in sink did not drain well surly desk person May 18, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Serious problems I had "bugs" in the bathroom and in the be, I brought a live bug to the front desk and showed them. also there was a very noisy party going on in the rooms on both sides of my room and at 11:30PM I started advising the front desk of the noise and it kept up to after 3Am, no sleep, multiple live bus in the room. Rated 4 out of 5 by Friendly staff, good location Clean room.Comfortable bedding.Very pleasant staff. Room service food was surprisingly delicious&hot! Bartender made a great, filthy dirty vodka martini but the Manhattan was literally, undrinkable.Friday night bartender, should be more knowledgeable. Parking garage is hard to navigate,no one around outside to ask procedure, when first arriving after a long drive. June 9, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Eh... While the beds at this Sheraton are great, not much else can be said about this hotel. Slow service, slow elevators... Everything else serviceable but nothing to write home about. Stayed for the Starpoints, but were it not for that, I'd stay elsewhere. April 15, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Disaster from the start We pulled up to the hotel and the hotel shuttle was blocking the entrance and cars were lined up and stuck in the service road. When we asked the shuttle driver to move so cars could pull through, he went on an angry rant and moved the vehicle a matter of feet and then moved back to block the entrance. Upon checking in the young lady at the front desk mis-informed us of our payment options. I needed a cab service early the next morning and instead of giving me the local service she gave me a number to a car service, that I assume she was trying to give business to. Okay, that's fine if they want business...the "car service" never picked up. When I called the front desk to request another cab, another desk agent said she would take care of it, however; when we got downstairs to get the cab...she said, "oh, I tried to call your room, but I couldn't get you...sorry I couldn't get your cab" Then she said "but there happens to be one outside...do you want that want one?" The staff was friendly, but they no one seemed knowledgeable of services. When we checked in another guest was going off because she was having problems checking in. The rooms were clean and well kept, but the walls are very thin, and noise from the room next door and room service up and down the halls kept us awake late into the night and early in the morning. Decent stay for the price....I love the Sheraton, but would not stay at this location again. May 7, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Disappointed Stayed 2 nights. The room had a awfully smell of Orange cleaning solution, clearly masking something else. Hallways, carpets - poor. Bathroom in room was not only absurdly small but uncomfortable. May 2, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Service is the Key The bedding and the housekeeping staff were great.Food was poor to awful both in the restaurant and room service(????) One hour and 20 minutes for room service!!! The single worst aspect of service was the shuttle.Rides from the hotel to Metro were fine. Calling and getting picked up at or near Metro was hard to non existent. I do NOT think it was a driver's fault. There seemed to be a disconnect between the people who answered phones and the directions given TO the drivers.BAD!!! April 9, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Guest Services Your facility is wonderful, loved it, however your guest services were not to my satisfaction. My stay was 3 nights, and during the first night i had issues with my comfort, I am highly allergic to Down pillows and comforters, I asked guest services to replace with other types, and did not receive the correct replacement until my last night. needless to say I was not able to rest well. Your housekeeping staff did not know the difference between down and fiber filled pillows and comfortors, and I asked for an additional blanket, which i did not receive until my last night as well. I only received them because I flagged down someone from housekeeping and requested they check on the replacement. May 8, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by hotel is great spg website not so much I have not been able to get a receipt online for my stay, which is causing problems. This should not be so hard. June 8, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Be Careful on Parking Hotel Great, Check in Desk Staff: Ladies are Great. Young Man working Check in Desk told me to Park down in parking lot down the hill. Got a $60.00 Parking ticket. Now Hotel tells me sorry, but we are not paying your ticket! April 18, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by This hotel is okay for a few days THANK YOU TO THE RESTAURANT STAFF AND CLEANING LADY FROM ANOTHER SECTION. They were very nice staff. We stayed there for two days. After day one we returned to our room at 3:45pm and it had not been cleaned! We had an event to prepare for and It took us an hour to get someone to clean our room. Finally, a cleaning woman who was working in another section was kind enough to come over and clean our room. She was very nice and yes, we did tip her because she didn't have to clean our room. In addition, our coffee maker did not work and they never brought us one that worked!!! April 30, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Staff is very welcoming I stay here every week and the staff never fails to make me feel welcome. They're so friendly and go beyond the required courtesies at check in and check out. June 6, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Try harder I don't know where to start. I should have kept a journal during my stay, because it's easy to forget many details. Here's an overview: Room appearance: Acceptable, but somewhat disappointing. Small window. Cramped bath. Room cleanliness: Somewhere between acceptable and poor. Carpets were in great need of a thorough vacuuming (even after we had our room "cleaned"). We have an infant who crawls on the floor, so having a clean carpet was important. Visible mold on the shower ceiling. Moldy "overflow" drain in bathroom sink. Service: Poor. We stayed for 3 weeks due to business, giving us much time to observe the hotel, its staff, and assess its strengths and weaknesses. Though staff were always friendly when the need to interact presented itself, there seemed a profound level of miscommunication and ineptitude. Service cont'd: For our three week stay, we turned down maid service 17 times. Each time, we were due a $5 coupon. The coupon was forgotten at least three times. We asked for our room to be cleaned 3 times -- essentially once per week. The first time, we left our room for 8 hours and returned to it untouched. We were forced to take our tired family to a local park while we waited for the maid to be rushed to our room to quickly clean it. Upon return, only the bed was made and towels replaced. No toilet cleaning, no vacuuming, no dusting. The second week there, we asked for our room to be cleaned. We made this request at 10 AM at the front desk. We left for the day, expecting a clean room upon our return in the evening. Nope. No one came. Once again, a maid was scrambled to our room and we made ourselves scarce (with a cranky infant) while the room was cleaned. Upon our later return, the room was not vacuumed. Pieces of cereal were all over the carpet (courtesy of our 1-year-old son). This time, we demanded that the maid return and vacuum while we awkwardly sat in the room and she worked around us. When finished, we were regaled with her story of how her coworker had called off and how overworked she was. Though moving, this was not our problem. We only wanted a clean room. Restaurant: Mica's food was often bland. One evening, I ordered a hamburger cooked to medium. We were the ONLY people in the restaurant, so the cook should've been able to focus all his attention on our meal. The burger was cooked well done, and it was clearly frozen beef as it had nearly no flavor. We ate at Mica's a few more times (for no reason other than convenience and our $5 coupons) and were disappointed nearly every time. Restaurant staff: Very friendly...but sadly, very inattentive. It was usual and customary to have to ask for a high chair several times, and staff frequently showed up only to present the check. Never once were we asked how the food was. If we wanted a refill of coffee or water, we almost always had to ask; exceptions to this were rare. Bar: $13 cocktails. Seriously? No wonder the bar was lifeless most of the time. You could leave the hotel and walk for a block to find much better places to enjoy a beer, wine, or spirits for half the cost and with twice the atmosphere. Misc: 1. Elevators were often slow and overused. We unfortunately stayed during a home audio expo, and the expo spanned multiple floors. It wasn't unusual to wait 10 minutes for an elevator up to our room on the ninth floor. 2. Our bedroom door was "out of true" -- basically not plumb and fit poorly in the doorframe as though it had been damaged previously. To open the door, you needed to really yank it. To close required a slam. This was bad when my wife left early each morning for her conference and the baby would wake up unnecessarily. 3. Room HVAC was 85 db. Very loud. It also would get stuck on, making our room that we set to 71 degrees drop to 66 degrees overnight. 4. Pool was cold (unheated), small, and really something that looks good on the Sheraton website thanks only to the skillfully captured photo. In person, it's an easy disappointment. 5. Internet was barely over dial-up speed. To add insult to injury, the charge is $13 per day. We fortunately did not have to pay this as it was included with a deal we got on our room. I pity any traveller who'd have to pay for this. And frankly, charging customers for the use of the Internet is simply greedy. Include it in the price of the room as you do your other utilities. 6. Often, I was stuck in the room with my son while my wife was at her conference. If there were any clouds or rain, I was guaranteed not to be able to view 25% of the few channels available. They have abysmal satellite TV service at this hotel. I could go on, but isn't this enough? Sheraton Silver Spring: Get your act together. Some things you can't change (like your slow and too few elevators) but some things you can and should (especially your staff's communication and attentiveness issues). August 10, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Pros and Cons The pros were that the bed was very comfortable and I appreciated that the bed came with full size pillows, not the standard mini pillows you get in most hotels. The cons were that for most of my stay at least one elevator was done and so a short time, all three were down. Also, trying to be a good steward of the environment, I opted to decline house keeping service for my second night, which was recommended by the hotel with the offer of a reduced price on my next visit or SPG points. Of course what happened was that I never again received house keeping service for the remaining three days. May 12, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Hotel was GREAT disappointment Food in Mica restaurant was horrible! I ordered the crab/corn chowder- gray/brown color that was very off putting- thick as pudding & smelled very fishy- disgusting- crab cake also smelled VERY strong of fish- food was not fresh- cheese on asparagus was one big glob- gross- THEY ALSO CHARGED ME 3 TIMES for internet use in ONE NIGHT- they charge by device- (so my smart phone & lap top were considered TWO charges) and because I used my phone again in the morning that was another charge! RIDICULOUS! VERY disappointed in my stay! not up to Sheraton standards!! May 8, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Staff Needs Training Upon arrival and check-in the first thing I get is a "By the way there is a $14 charge for parking per night" which wasn't noted in the reservation. Then I asked for the free breakfast as the platinum amenity and they give me one breakfast for myself and nothing for my wife. So that's lead to the first argument. At checkout, we get charged for Internet service in the room and I go back and forth with the reception lady about that is a complimentary service for platinum at all Starwood hotels and she tells me twice that it's only free if you stay on the club level. When I see I'm getting nowhere with this, I ask for a manager and suddenly she reverses course and removes the charge. Either she gets a cut of the additional charges or she doesn't know her job.
