SPG member since 2007; platinum since 2008 and this is still the best place I've ever had the pleasure of staying (twice now and counting). This property is situated over much more land than other hotels in the vicinity, so it never feels crowded. Service is always great, true aloha throughout.
Aside from the pool bar where it's pretty plain, food everywhere else is excellent. Rooms are wonderful. Spotless, of course. Nothing like hanging out on the lanai listening to the surf, chilling out at sunset. The views from this property are AMAZING. The beach is so good that folks from pretty much every other hotel come on over... Luau pretty darn good.
A quick shout-out to Erick at the Valet, what a great ambassador for the hotel! Made us feel immediately welcome. Another quick shout-out to Josh at Tepanyaki-Dan, great chef, and was wonderful with my sons and kept them entertained. Just so you know Josh, my three-year-old talked about you for weeks!
Tets, thanks for running such a wonderful property. The experience you've given us was so incredible that we've altered our entire retirement to make Maui a big part of our plan... Mahalo to all of you.

I loved the Sheraton from the beautiful grounds, to the fantastic views. Downside is outdated room, awful bed, tiny pool, lack of loungers by the tiny pool. Parking was better than most other hotels, there actually is adequate spots.
There are many hotel along Kaanapali beach and over the years I've stayed at all of them and by far the Sheraton is the quietest. Perfectly situated at Black Rock the Sheraton has some of the best snorkeling, and largest beach area (lots of sand) along Kaanapali.
The room, while small was well appointed, clean and had a great view. The bed was one of the worse we have ever slept on - Heavenly bed? I don't think so. Hard as a rock. The room and bathroom are in serious need of an update. Look to be 20 years old. Maybe the premium rooms have better beds?
Grounds are beautiful but the pool is the worse feature of this fantastic hotel. Tiny in comparison to some and with chairs and shade for probably 10% of the guests at the hotel. No one likes to have to be out by the pool at 6 am to get a chair... with the expansive lawn area why not add say 500+ loungers and umbrellas to that area until the pool is re-done to resort size.
No adult pool here to be prepared to hear some kids screaming. Poolside service was pretty good.
Service was average. Unfriendly front desk, super friendly guy who brought luggage to the room, and very friendly valet - of course they are working for tips.

We arrived and automatically had issues. The parking garage elevator wasn't working and the first floor was dedicated to valet parking so we had to lug our luggage down the stairs. We stayed for three nights and the elevator was never fixed so the same thing occurred when we checked out. The check in process was smooth and efficient but when we got into our room, the carpet was soaking wet. Not just damp, I mean it was wet like something had flooded. When I called the front desk I was transferred to the manager on duty and when I explained the carpet was soaking wet, she just said she wasn’t sure how that happened and she would send up a bellman with keys to a new room. There was no apology or concern. We had a room with double beds but one of the beds was right under the air conditioner vent. There’s no way to change the direction of the air flow so the air was directly on my head. I had to sleep in the same bed as my sister for the next two nights. In the morning we went to the gym and the directions there were so convoluted we got lost. We had to trek to the building, go to floor 8 like all the signage’s stated and then take a different set of stairs down to floor 7 and walk around to find the gym. When we were packing up to check out, we noticed one of the water bottles that you have to pay for was almost empty and we hadn’t touched it. The maid service must have missed it when they cleaned the room prior to us checking in. We also were unsatisfied with the dining options which were all overpriced and had to eat out for every meal. Overall a bad experience, would not recommend this hotel.

-Unbelievably beautiful views, especially from buildings 5 and 6. Worth the long walk from the rest of the resort.
-Special occasions get a glass of champagne (be sure to mention honeymoon/anniversary at check-in).
-Got a great rate and a free room upgrade - thank you to the GM
-Great location for the area/snorkeling (see sea turtles, sting rays, octopus, right in front of hotel)
-$30/day resort fee that over promises and under delivers accommodations (I didn't get wi-fi in my room or at the pool nor did I see any free Hawaiian activities or any other "included" anything)
-Food/Beverage unreasonably priced
-"No outside food or drink" policy which expects you to pay $12/drink and $11/bratwurst at the pool.
-Constant grounds maintenance and loud gasoline motors nearly every day at the pool while trying to relax
-Truly nothing else included (must pay for beach chairs, snorkels, all activities)
- They will try to get you on a time-share tour
-Not particularly friendly (not rude, just seem indifferent toward guests - especially if you're not actively spending money and just trying to relax).
-Lots of locals walking though the property as it is a PUBLIC beach - don't leave your valuables alone (got my glasses stolen by the pool).
-Great place to stay if you get a good deal and have a rental car to escape the "nickle and dime" philosophy. Gorgeous property and location that really shows-off Maui. However, I got the impression that times are tight and Corporate has really cracked down on the staff to maximize profit. Plan on eating and drinking elsewhere. If you are trying to relax and just want to hang out at the resort, opt for an "all-inclusive" in Mexico or Jamaica. If you just need a place to stay while you explore the island, this place is perfect.

My partner and I stayed at the Sheraton Maui from 2/28/13-3/7/13. We choose to stay here over the Westin properties given the great reviews of the beach and grounds. I soon came to learn that these reasons are the only ones to stay here.
My partner and I arrived at 930PM with another friend who held a separate reservation. As a platinum member I had booked a King size Ocean View Room, and I was instructed that I was upgraded to a King size Ocean View Room (no true upgrade). My friend was instructed that the hotel was oversold and she was to be relocated to the Westin Maui for two nights then brought back to the Sheraton.
I inquired as to the availability of a mulit-bedroom suite to allow us all to remain together for the entirety of our vacation. I was offered a room with two double beds and a double murphy bed. When I did not accept this offer the the desk associate blindly asked why this option did not meet our needs. He was unable to digest that a male-male couple had originally booked a King size room and he was now asking them to sleep on separate beds and in a room with less than optimal privacy given the third travel companion.
My friend eventually caved and accepted the temporary transfer to the Westin Maui. We found our room at the Sheraton to be nice though. The renovations at the Sheratons world wide have paid off. The grounds and pools are immaculate. The beach gets very crowded as guests from other hotels down the beach come here to snorkel and a separate company rents beach chairs which occupy 90% of the beach.
Did not eat at the Sheraton, but the drinks were OK. Overpriced unless Happy Hour for the quality of them. Walk down to Whalers Village for better drinks prices and food.
I was charged for water in the room, which as a platinum member was eventually removed.
All in all, I would be willing to sacrifice my Starwood loyalty for a hotel farther south on the beach for less crowding and a chance at more improved service and staff who recognizes the importance of diversity.
Disappointed, but luckily so much to do on Maui you get over the issues at some point.

For anyone who enjoys having water activities easily accessible in a relaxing environment with beautiful surroundings, this is the place for you. My husband and I selected the Sheraton Maui for our most recent vacation in Mau after visiting the property several years ago while staying at a nearby resort. The resort is a short drive from Lahainia and is situated along the ocean walk. Whaler's Village is a 4-5 minute stroll for those looking to eat and shop at off property locations. The Sheraton's proximity to Black Rock is great for very good and easy access snorkeling. There is a great view from the pool and tiki bar of the resort's customary evening ritual of the Black Rock dive. The beach is clean, wide, not at all crowded and very close to the resort's pool areal.
Sheraton's pool area is very large and appeals to adults as well as children. The tiki bar has a nice selection for light fare and beverages. The evening entertainment is just right for enhancing the relaxing atmosphere of the soft sounds of ocean waves and lush surroundings
The staff in the beach kiosk, tiki bar/grill, front desk and those attending to the room were genuinely pleasant, helpful and enthusiastic in their job performance.
The breakfast buffet was excellent! Each morning the array of fresh fruits and variety of hot and cold entrée selections were hard to resist. And, the assortment of hot selections changed from day to day! Nice touch. The breakfast staff was a standout with the exception of one server who seemed to disappear and was very reluctant to give us more than one pour of coffee. Mel Richard and Edward were excellent servers. They were happily engaged in their duties and we looked forward to seeing them in the morning. Our room was large, had a lovely view and was very clean. The staff was prompt in responding to our request to replace bulky top bedding with a light blanket. Unfortunately, The matrasses were the least comfortable of the four locations we stayed at during our visit to the islands. The air conditioning also did not do its job as far as keeping the room comfortable . Our room seemed stuffy during the evening hours. No matter how we adjusted the fan or the thermostat, the room got stuffier as the evening progressed which, in addition to the matrass quality, affected our sleep.
We rated the SPG as average for two reasons. We did not take advantage of the 20% discount offered at the two selected restaurants. The resort fee seemed excessive per day since we used none of the services/items covered in that fee.
We did like the parking garaging which was conveniently located and provided welcomed shade to keep our rental car cool.
