As has always been the case, a very good and comfortable visit to the Sheraton in Essen, good location, excellent staff and service.

The Sheraton in Essen is an all around nice hotel. And normally the staff is very helpful. During this trip, I was unable to log into the Wi-Fi network. Each day, I would visit the front desk who'd promise they'd have someone look into why I can't access the Wi-Fi. Even though I asked them daily about it, they were never able to fix it. In fairness, they provided me a 24-hour temporary code to access the WiFi, so at least I was functional; but it was still annoying to have visit the desk daily, and be promised a fix when one never came.

Great location - everything is just within 5 minutes walking distance - f.e the shopping / nightlife / culinary street Rüttlistrasse. Great front desk staff - very helpful!
The bar is great - saw famous german football club player, who seemed to have stayed there for a game.
Cosy beds - valuable price.

Very dated hotel, no wifi in rooms.
Hotel was clean, staff friendly, lounge very good, small but welcoming.
Very far from Dusseldorf, 65-70 euros in taxi

I was driving from Denmark to Holland and decided that I'd overnight at the halfway point, which was Essen. Never been there and had no idea what to expect, so used points for the stay. I did send a note ahead that I'd be arriving quite late.
Got there well after midnight, and the staff was just fantastic, asking if I needed anything and were so friendly, asking if I'd at least have time to have a quick look around Essen before carrying on.
They upgraded me to a suite, which I felt bad about since I was only staying about 8 hours, but it was a really nice room with lots of space. Very quiet hotel, and breakfast in the morning was superb. I was sat outside on a lovely terrace overlooking a park. My only regret about being there was that I didn't get to stay longer. For a Sheraton, this is an amazing hotel and gets top marks from me. I hope that I'll have reason to pass through again soon!
It's hard for me to say who I would recommend the hotel to, since I didn't get to see anything around, but if you're in Essen either on business or pleasure, I'd definitely recommend it!

The hotel is very so so.
I got once a nice room but twice now a really noisy and below standard room. Cleanliness is poor on my current stay (maybe because they are renovating the floor below).
Service is sometimes good but usually below average (compared with other Sheratons - ex: Berlin)
I don't feel like a platinum member.
the food in the club lounge is average at best.
In addition they forgot to book my SPG green points a couple of times.
The key card doesn't always work.
Breakfast is just average (you have great tea but why is the water not warm enough?). Need to pay more attention to details - check the Berlin Sheraton for best practices.
I only stay because my company booked the rooms for me.

First time stayed at Essen, my regular stays have been at frankfurt shearaton airport. And westin grand.
Staff at these places esp at fra airport sheraton is exceptional.
May be they have increased my expectations but the recent stay at essen was extremely disapointing.
Being only star hotel in essen, staff seems complacant.

First of all, I have to point out that the service was very good in this hotel. Anything I needed was brought immediately and the staff was always friendly and helpful. The food and beverage met my expectation.
Unfortunately the rooms were very old, there was no international movie channel (only pay-tv) and there was no Wifi in the room. I was told that I was upgraded, but I couldn't really see or feel that I was upgraded. The rooms were used and old.
I was also surprised that the hotel has no own parking.
I'm not sure if I will return to this hotel.
