I rarely review hotels, but felt that this was an important one to provide. The Sheraton University City is a great hotel in terms of proximity to Penn, Drexel, and West Philly. The room was spacious, and since I was on the 18th floor, I had a great view of University City and Center City. The bed was clean and comfortable, and everything in the room worked properly.
However, there was one major issue that occurred during my stay - the elevators did not work multiple times, and since I was on the 18th floor, this was a big inconvenience. At first, because one was not functioning and on the ground floor, for some reason you could only get on one of the other three when someone brought an elevator down to depart. Later that evening after returning from dinner, none of the elevators were working. We waited for more than an hour for the elevators to work again, then everyone decided to just walk up the stairs instead. After expressing my frustration with walking up 18 flights of stairs to SPG Customer Service, I was contacted by the manager, who left a voicemail on my hotel phone that I can only describe as condescending in tone. She said that the elevators were not working due to a pulled fire alarm and they made multiple announcements that I would have heard if I was there, but I and other guests were downstairs in the lobby for over an hour and we were all confused because no announcement was made.
Sheraton University City is in a fantastic location, and the rooms are great. However, I may ultimately elect to stay somewhere else in the future because of the elevator issues and how my concerns were treated afterwards.

Loved my stay at this hotel. The staff was very efficient. The rooms were extremely clean. The only downfall is the amount they charge for parking.

Great location close to U Penn campus. The room was spacious and had a nice view. On the negative side, there was no mini-fridge in the room, the elevators were slow and often too full to even get on once they arrived, and parking spaces in the garage structure were hard to find.

I really enjoyed the sleep quality/comfort, Club Lounge, location by universities yet walking distance to downtown, staff friendliness, and the Chinese restaurant in the hotel. Club lounge food was better than most; could have used a happy hour, but overall very satisfying. Thought this might be too far from downtown, but it is really a 15 minute walk away. Will stay here again.

I requested an early check-in (10am) because I had a conference to attend - this was not accommodated. Had to wait around until 2:30pm to check-in. Coat check gentleman was rude to me because I requested to get something out of my checked bag. Room was not vacuumed; dirty carpet. Food on wall, floor - which was promptly cleaned, but still. Felt gross the whole time.

Overall, this was a disappointment. Obviously, an older property in need up updating. Relatively clean. Nice staff. Good location. Only one restaurant. Thermostat was not always responsive, so adjusting the temperature was frustrating. I was at a conference: the food was good, service was good, meeting and presentation rooms not so well laid out, chairs in some rooms were extremely uncomfortable. I stayed at Sheratons all over the world in the 70s, 80s and 90s. This one might have been better back in the day.

Room was not free of previous quests with respect to garbage left under bed and at head of bed between wall and mattress. Cleaning staff should have truly cleaned room instead of just what they can readily see. My previous stays have been awesome but this one was left us wanting. Bed felt like sleeping on a rock with pillows being equally uncomfortable. This was not typical of my past stays but these areas should be improved upon.
