north america college recruiting: internships & externships
Starwood provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to grow their
careers even before graduation. When school is not in session, hundreds of
students join our properties in all departments to gain valuable experience
with an industry leader. Students have an opportunity to experience the culture
of Starwood and one of its brands which can help them determine if Starwood
could be the right career fit for them upon graduation. Starwood gets to know
the students, too. When we select graduates to join our Management Training
program, preference is given to those who have previously completed a
successful Starwood externship or internship.
These experiential opportunities are limited to current undergraduates only.
Experienced, non-student candidates are invited to search for current
career opportunities. Students interested in hotel opportunities that take
place when school is usually in session are advised to contact the specific
hotels that interest them.
Winter Extern and Spring Extern Program - Fall 2009 Semester
For one or two weeks during winter break or spring break externs are immersed
in the operation of a hotel department. Students are given project experience,
the opportunity to expand their professional network and exposure to a
concentration area which will aid in their career planning for later
internships and placement after graduation. Hotel housing is usually
provided. First, second, third and fourth year students enrolled in
hospitality/business programs who have demonstrated a high level of commitment
to the hospitality industry through their academic performance and practical
experience are invited to apply for nationwide externship opportunities in the
fall. Interviews will be held during on-campus recruiting or at invitational
interview events.
Students who attend our partner schools listed on our
campus roster are advised contact their career services office for
instructions, and to complete an online application in order
to be considered.
If we are not scheduled to visit your school please complete an online application.
Summer Intern Program - Spring 2010 Semester
Starwood offers summer opportunities to foster students' professional
development, understanding of hotel operations and career planning for
placement after graduation. Starwood provides each summer intern with
experiences comparable to entry-level, full-time professionals in the field of
hospitality. Students are given networking opportunities, project experience
and meaningful hands-on experience as they develop their guest service and
functional skills in rooms, food and beverage, sales, finance, human resources,
revenue management or six sigma. The individual career objectives of each
student are utilized to create a final project.
First, second and third year students enrolled in hospitality programs who have
demonstrated a high level of commitment to the hospitality industry through
their academic performance and practical experience are invited to apply for
summer internship opportunities in the spring. Interviews will be held during
on-campus recruiting or will otherwise be scheduled. We will next accept
applications for summer interns in early 2010.
