Our team at The Westin Chicago River North would like to take a moment to bid a special farewell to a
Chicago Cubs legend- "Mr. Cub", more formally known as Ernie Banks. Throughout the years, Mr. Banks would frequent our property and eventually became like family, bringing a smile to each and every one of our team members faces- especially Sam Guiragossian, our Westin Workout Manager.
"For the last 7 years The Westin Chicago River North has been privileged to have baseball legend Mr. Cub Ernie Banks as our guest. I have had the distinct honor of working personally with Ernie Banks in our Westin Workout Fitness Studio. We were all fortunate enough to have met such a remarkable man. One of the very first impressions I have of Mr. Banks was his larger than life personality. When he talked to you, he made you the center of attention, he cared about you and what was important in your life. I can still hear him singing hymns as he walked down the hallway before his morning workouts. Mr. Banks for many people was known for his amazing Hall Of Fame career as a baseball player that no one would contest. I will always remember him as a great humanitarian. He talked often about his charities and the joy it brought him. I firmly believe that his contributions off the baseball diamond are truly what defined him. I have never met anyone more positive, caring, inspirational, compassionate, upbeat and friendly than Ernie. He was a great ambassador for the Cubs, and the entire city of Chicago. He was eternally hopeful, and had that bright smile that could not be dimmed. In the end no words can describe his legacy on and off the field. Our Westin family grieves the loss of Mr. Banks, but rejoice in all the memories we have of him.
