Rated 4 out of 5 by Sirdaav Hard to work out this hotel...
I got a cheap rate, and was placed in the towers. I am guessing the main hotel building is nicer. However, some of the room looked reno'd, the door of the room was scratched and beaten and touched up badly with paint... This theme seemed to persist in the hotel, newer elevator insides, but the hallway where you wait for the elevator was very grubby on the walls... Million dollar view from the room, literally, but they cleaned the room and used neat bleach in the shower, it reeked, the pool area smell is very strong - in the lobby area outside, the coffee packets in the room were out of date - small stuff maybe, but it makes you wonder about attention to detail. The staff were great. The location is lvely, but a steep walk up into town if older or infirm - so be aware, there is no shuttle downtown if you need it, you'll be cabbing it. So it's a bit of a mixed bag, a nice hotel, nice setting, but there are far nicer out there, that said, for the price I paid, not the rack rates, it is worth it.

I picked the Bayshore as I had not stayed here in quite some time. The rooms have been nicely renovated and the location can't be beat. However I prefer the location and decor of the Grand a bit better. Plus the Grand offers free wifi whereas it was 25 dollars a day at the Bayshore. But it was a lovely stay.

This hotel is great--depending upon what you'd like. If you want to boat or walk through Stanley Park--this is your spot as you can't get any closer. If you want more of a metro/downtown vibe, try the sister property of Westin Grand. Parking is bad but it's Vancouver and there are no other options. It's steep at 36/day as of 6 Nov. Location--if it is clear/sunny is spectacular! Snow covered mountains can't be beat. Staff is excellent. Have FUN!

Rated 4 out of 5 by mdditt2000 Beautiful location and wonderful weekend away from home
The Westin Bayshore hotel is located in the perfect location for a relaxing vacation or weekend away. We stayed at the Westin Bayshore hotel for three nights and enjoyed every minute of our stay. My son loved the sea planes taking off and landing right outside and hotel window and balcony. The hotel is directly opposite Stanley Park and is within walking distances to downtown and good restaurants/coffee shops etc. We loved walking alone the sea wall. The pools and gym looked great unfortunately we never used either of them. The Westin Bayshore hotels internet speed was effective and seem to work very well. We loved the Starbucks located in the hotel. The Starbucks is open early in the morning until 4pm in the afternoon. Since Starbucks was located in the hotel we never had to eat breakfast from the hotel. However the hotel breakfast buffet did look very good. It also looked over priced. Our room was 1880 located on the 18th floor. Our room was next to the elevator shaft. Every time the elevator went up and down you could hear it. I would recommend you request a room that is not located next the elevator shaft in the tower. Very poor design if you ask me. We also had to the ask the hotel staff four times before we received the babies crib. For some unknown reason we receive a bath mat with the crib. I don't think the hotel staff known the difference between a hotel mat and baby blanket. Hotel management was very apologetic and send up a tray of cookies and water.
Regardless of the elevator and crib issues our stay was wonderful. Safeway's and whole-foods supermarket are two blocks from the hotel on Robson St. We purchased some fruit, yogurt etc. The hotel room has a refrigerator. No SPG platinum upgrade from what I could tell. We received a standard Westin king room. Well room did have a great view of the downtown. We will definitely be back. No SPG club lounge.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Overnighter2013 Deluxe Waterfront Room Upgrade Disappointment
We booked 2 nights to attend a Christmas party in Vancouver. We upgraded to the "Deluxe Waterfront" room and paid the premium to do so. We were assigned a 5th floor room overlooking the marina. Not bad, but certainly not a "Deluxe Waterfront" room.
Others in our party who booked, and only booked a single night, were given a 14th floor room overlooking the harbour.
Was this because it was our first time staying at a Westin facility? If so, it left a slightly less than perfect impression.
The room was clean, other than the Jujube on the floor at the edge of the bed and scuff marks on the skirting.
The bed was very comfortable with nice linen. We had 2 good sleeps.
I would still recommend staying here, but would suggest checking out your "room with a view" first.

Rated 3 out of 5 by social Not your hotel if you plan on meeting for dinner or a drink
Before, during and after a conference attendees and organizers are looking for a place to chat or plan for the next day. This hotel doesn't provide a place to meet at the end of the day. There is a nice place for breakfast and lunch but forget sitting down after a long day of sessions. There is no bar where you can meet people and mingle - except for a small bar that is hidden and doesn't stay open past 10:00 on a Sat. night.

Rated 3 out of 5 by yanyan328 Details not meet my expectation to a downtown Westin
Basically I was disappointed at the experience on this downtown Westin, although my bar was raised a bit high because of its price.
* When I entered the lobby (around 9pm), apparently looking for where to check in, no one greet me or helped me.
* When I finally found someone and was pointed to the front desk, no one was present there (around 9pm).
* I can clearly hear people walking and talking in the lobby, or even coughing in their rooms from my room.
* When I was checking in at the front desk, another customer came asking for another room because there was already someone staying in the room he was just assigned. WHAT??? I treat this as the most unprofessional mistake a hotel could ever make -- imagine someone entered your room when you're taking a shower. I was shocked that time. But since I'm not that customer, not sure about the details.
In summary, if a hotel got any one of the negative points mentioned above, I'd vote down against it. Not to mention this is a top-level brand among SPG in downtown area in a big city, which hit four of them. To be honest, this stay disappointed me a lot on Westin the brand, and SPG as well. At least I wouldn't recommend this Westin to my friends.

Rated 3 out of 5 by chrschnell Nice location, but needs improvement
The Location is nice and the Hotel makes a good first impression. The rooms are big enough and clean.
Still there were some negative Points which mainly relate to the noise Level we experienced. There were a lot of teenagers in the hotel during our stay which run in the floors and shouted from one balcony to the other until after midnight and the Impression was as if somebody would run next to your bad, or shout within your room. Also the noise level from the starting and landing seaplanes was exceptionally loud. There seems to be no noise reduction by the door to the floor, or through the window, or at least same not satisfactory.
Additionally the room service was not convincing and the breakfast to expensive. During checkout the reception did not even ask if we had a pleasant stay, nor if we have any comments.
The only real great service we experienced was from the concierge desk which was always of real assistance.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Sunndyday63 You pay for location
I paid extra for a harbor view. it was a peeka boo view if you stuck your head out off the deck. The room was decent. The bed was OK, obviously well used as it had a concave spot. The bathroom was nicely updated with budget conscious but nice things. No microwave. Any additional items were excessively expensive. We had a group deal so WIFI and parking were reasonable in the deal. I would not use this hotel privately. A friend had 2 pop deliverd to their room as there are no vending machines on premises. It cost them 12.00. The restaurant was to expensive to eat at. Small items from room service were quite expensive and there is a delivery charge and tip added on top.. which isn't a big deal on it's own. Probably a good idea considering the budget few would be inclined to add any with the cost of things. They did give me some points for the room view issue and a strong apology. The staff were nice. I didn't need my room cleaned and they were quick to bring my any needed things when asked. Location is excellent. Hop Harour Air from the island and quick walk up the seawalk. Beautiful surrounding and nice area. Lots of runners in the area. One rough creepy looking guy gave me hard time.

This is a wonderful hotel but I was let down by the Cleaniness & amenities of the room.
The staff is always pleasant & the bellman was exceptional, he even suggested I use a free shuttle to Capilano Suspension bridge instead of a taxi. When I got to the room, I noticed there was only soap on the bathroom vanity, I called Service Express to see if they stopped providing the hand cream as it is a favorite of mine and it was brought up right away
In the morning, I noticed there was no pen and the clincher was old used tea bags in the coffee pot. I did call to advise the front desk of my issues and they offered to bring a pen up. I declined as I was checking out . To add to my experience, the toilet no longer flushed when I used it before leaving.
My experience isn't the norm but it made for a disappointing stay in the end this time

Used to be a high end hotel, but now nothing special. Front desk and bell staff very good, duing room and bar area very expensive, very average, very slow service. Bartender often stumped by simple drink orders ... did not know what a vodka collins was, could not serve brandy & benedictine. Sad for what used to be one of the hotels. Despite some upgrades, seems to slip a bit more each time I visit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Mairi25 High internet charges are unwelcoming!
The Westin Bayshore is well-situatuated, the staff are friendly and welcoming and the beds are comfortable.
The $15 per day per device fees charged for internet access I found dated, unwelcoming and inconvenient. This is a conference hotel, there will be many people who are visitng on business and need to keep up with email. Overseas visitors (whose smart phones are not networked to a mobile provider ) are particularly affected.
On top of a reasonably expensive room I paid 5 days of internet access. When we asked the conference organsiers about a login, they reporte that the internet charges were probitively high and not affordable within the conference budget.
The net result is that guests feel exploited. The additional cost tot he hotel of guests making use of wifi internet is minimal - and yet the charges are high. So we feel cheated. which undermines all other efforts to make guests feel welcome.
I should finish by noting that in a limited area of the lobby free internet access is available but it is not useful for those who need more to work - although probably sufficient for a holiday maker needing to check email quickly.

Rated 3 out of 5 by doug20at20google Green option for towels, linens meant no room service at all
Like many hotels these days, the Westin Bayshore Vancouver offered guests the ecologically friendly and water-conserving option to not have towels and bed linens changed every day. I chose to do this as I usually do. However, unlike other hotels, at the Westin this choice meant no room service at all: trash not emptied, in-room coffee not replaced, in-room dining dishes not picked up, bed not made, etc.. Was also disappointed by price/performance ratio of wireless services. Other than that, the room met my expectations.

The architect that designed your hotel so that a room backed up to the elevator shafts must have never stayed in a hotel. Statrting at 5:30 in the morning people began using the elevator and since the elevator shaft backed up to our room it was very loud and woke us up. Also, the design of your showers is ridiculous. To design an open type shower where only about half of the shower has a glass wall while the remaining half remains open air, is simply an invitation to have water all over the bathroom floor. While the hotel in general is nice, the room design is terrible!

Rated 2 out of 5 by adi1999 Did not live up to SPG standards
We stayed one night here on a spur of the moment trip to Vancouver. We have stayed at the Westin numerous times and have always been blown away by the quality and service. This time was very different. First let me say the location of this hotel is amazing, a great place to stay with a family. We have two boys who really enjoyed the boats and water that surrounds the hotel and they loved the pools, even when it was chilly outside they wanted to be in there. The staff gave us Westin Kids Club bags which they both loved, as well as a free movie. The downside was our room. We were on the 2nd floor and in a corner unit. It was extremely noisy and the people next to us were parting all night long with no warning to be quite, mind you it was 2am and went on for hours. Our room was awful and something I would expect to see in a motel. There were sliding doors to our room which did not close properly therefore allowing cold air in and condensation build up on the windows. There was mold on the curtains and the wallpaper was peeling off. When we told the front desk they said thank you for telling us and that was it.

Check in staff person behind the desk was terse and unwelcoming. I'm a platinum guest with over 100 nights per year. Even with my elite status they did not give me an upgrade and did not even put me on a preferred floor. TV in room is very small - maybe 30 inch. Parking at the hotel is $37 per night, or you can literally park across the street at a public garage for $20 per day. There are no free computer access for platinum guests. Platinum breakfast amenity only includes the "cold buffet" section - hot food is an extra charge. When we asked the front desk person for directions to a restaurant she said "just Google it"... I didn't care for her attitude.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Kiwi76 Disappointing visit
I am a frequent Westin hotel guest. I was so looking forward to a fun stay in Vancouver, but this one was the most disappointing.
The lines for check-in and check-out are almost always long and VERY slow. Often, there is only one person on duty, even though there are 4 or 5 stations available. This seems to be indicative of a lack of staffing in multiple departments.
Room-service breakfast was promised within 30 minutes of ordering -- it took over 1 hour. They did comp it, which helped the pocket but not the stomach.
When friends arrived early to meet us and tried to connect to our room from the house phone, they were told that we were not registered in the hotel (even after they spelled our name).
This hotel is in a FANTASTIC location - great views, walking paths, and easy access to downtown.

Rated 2 out of 5 by nofreewifi2012 No wifi, unless you're sneaky
At a cost of $225 a night, with free wifi available throughout the city, it is shocking that the Bayshore charges another $15 a night for connectivity. Then to add to the issue, 'free' wifi is advertised at checkin, but only for the lobby and restaurants. When I asked about this, I was handed a little slip of paper with login credentials, like the crown jewels. This is an inappropriate business model in 2012. In speaking with others who are SPG members, they said they also had to pay for wifi and were peeved at this.
To test the system, I took my little slip of paper up to my guestroom, and the credentials worked fine there.
Additionally, as a conference exhibitor I had a runaround to get wifi connection there. Once I did, it turned out those credentials also worked throughout the hotel.
The staff was not helpful about this issue, just apologetic. Not their fault. It's a management issue, to be sure.
Finally - a much more minor issue - in such a high end property I'd expect my coffee maker to be cleaned of the previous guests' coffee grounds. Not the case here.
