Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Location Location of hotel is what you're paying for here (Union Square). Lobby is exquisite but rooms are par at best. Lobby bar and restaurant looked nice but were overflowing with people, so we couldn't get in. As a Gold SPGer I appreciated the 4PM checkout...what I did not appreciate was the cleaning lady calling at noon and again at two and asking if she could come in to clean. To even out the staff experience, the Concierge was very helpful and scored some good tickets for us. Hotel is nice, but the Westin on Market is only a couple blocks down the road, nicer amenities and is typically less expensive. November 12, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Classic SF Hotel This building is such a classic in SF, absolutely beautiful! The location is perfect. And this is coming from a local. You have everything in walking distance- shopping, restaurants, bars, clubs, Yerba Buena Center, museums, etc. We got the family room which is the biggest hotel room I have ever stayed in that wasn't a suite. So roomy and spacious. Beds were the usual Westin amazingness. It's not the most modern hotel around but that isn't why you stay here. But, all of the amenities are updated, like showers and TV, and that is what's important. The gym is great and there is a steamroom in the locker rooms. So glad I finally got a chance to stay here and would definitely recommend it! June 24, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Less than average hotel We stayed at this hotel and were rather disappointed. The room was outdated, the carpet and the furniture were stained and old. For the price, we expected more. No complimentary WiFi service was provided, which was surprising since almost every hotel offers it nowadays. July 20, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Disappointed !! I am a Platinum Starwood Member.Last year stayed over 100 nights at Starwood properties .Twenty plus of those nights at the Westin St Frances Hotel, SF. This year I have stayed at the St Frances already 10 nights for business. I have been noticing the rooms are in a desperate need of repair and a makeover / remodel. The room furniture is tired and the carpets are worn. The house keeping is also in question and needs to be addressed. The prices that the hotel is charging per night and the poor up keep......i am going to have to consider making other plans for a hotel while i am in San francisco this year. I can not recommend this hotel any longer until some serous changes are made. Sad !! June 10, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by accounting is a problem I love the St. Francis, and our stay was no exception. However, we have been billed for "entertainment center" charges we did not incur, and the St. Francis does not make it easy to discuss that. I've left a voice mail, but not had a response. In general, St. Francis management does not make it easy for a guest to communicate with them. I realize that all hotels are not alike on this. But I appreciate a general manager who wants to know what ISN'T working in his/her hotel. As it stands, there is no way for a guest to communicate with St. Francis management at ANY level, except through voice mail. March 22, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Unsatisfied Received nothing I requested in regard to room. Smallest room I have ever stayed in at a quality hotel. No where to put clothes for wife and I, so for 5 days we lived out of our suitcase. Room was dark with no sunlight coming in due to view being the roof and building. It was somewhat depressing to be in our room. Was told hotel did not have a UPS drop by concierge desk, when in fact I found out later that you did. Love SF however we did not enjoy our stay at the hotel. July 3, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Disappointed guest I stayed at the hotel for 6 nights. Construction noise was terribly loud at 2 am (font related to hotel). When I complained, staff said, "there's nothing we can do." I was in rooms 1220/1221 (suite). Cleaning service was mediocre. They left unfolded robe on the chair, did not put away ironing board, floor unclean. Food and room service average. I am a long time Starwood member and was exited about staying at the historic St Francis, but was extremely disappointed with my experience. Would not recommend this hotel. June 22, 2014

Rated 2 out of 5 by Tourist Trap As a SF Californian now living in Boston, we chose the St Francis to be near the shopping and holiday cheer. What a mess. The hotel was overrun and overbooked because of a dance workshop. We checked in and elevators were down and the lines extremely long to get up stairs. On a Saturday night we checked in and within a few hours had a note under our door informing us of some plumbing work that would need to be done the next am at 8!!! But not to worry, it would only take 12-14 minutes once they were in our room....on a Sunday am. I will never again stay in this tourist trap. Felt like Times Square November 28, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Not the Best! Asked for a corner room, non available except fifth floor, had asked 10 or above. Had room 1089, no robes, had to ask for them. Toilet seat cover falling off, sink faucet falling off, Heavenly Bed was a Simmons very hard. Hotel lobby elevators and hallways freezing! After Chateau Montelena dinner took guests to Bourbon and they refused to seat us said we had to eat something. Sat at a long bar table and the waitress was rude! Next time came back from Farallon and couldn't have a drink in the other bar closed for a private party. Coffee bar closed and did not want to go back to Bourbon so went to bed! Thought we were Starwood Gold! Toilet paper and kleenex subpar, as were some of the towels. December 8, 2013

Rated 2 out of 5 by Service slow Several times during our 3 day stay I tried calling Service Express and no one ever answered. Should be called Turtle Express. Spent 45 minutes on phone with SPG Customer Service to get the right room for our stay. I needed adjoining rooms for my wife and 2 kids. Took awhile to figure out but was booked by Customer Service personnel. We go to check in and our rooms were given away. Why go through the trouble of making reservations if they are just going to not hold the rooms for you. I have been a long time SPG member for years. Very disapointed with service overall except Valet service. When I was able to get through Service Express to have my car pulled up they were on t of it in minutes. December 25, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Why I do not perfer to stay at this location I’ve stayed at this hotel a few times and although I vowed not to come back to this location due to a previous experience. I had to book a reservation due to the event I was attending used this hotel as the host hotel. Because I had several family members attending I decided to book 4 additional rooms at this site so we could all stay together and make it easy for them to feel as part of the event. Half of my quest stayed in the older part of the hotel and other stayed in the newer and renovated side. The elevators were difficult to use and did not always work The older part of the hotel the rooms were small and air conditioning did not work properly and we had to have a maintenance person try to adjust. It came to be we had to give up and open the window for good ventilation. The staff tried to accommodate our request but due to the occupancy of the hotel they were unable to keep up with the demand of the quests on a timely manner. July 14, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Avoid the Spa Overall, the hotel was fine, with a very attentive staff and the location was perfect to get anywhere in SF in a reasonable amount of time. We came here to enjoy SF, sites, dining and people and we wanted to take advantage of the on-site spa during our limited down time. to make a long story short, the spa attendant, Blaze? or maybe Blasé, made a big deal about scheduling our times and when my wife and I showed for our appointments we were told the spa had double booked and we were out of luck. We were offered a discount to reschedule, but we just went somewhere else. The attendant was arrogant and lacking in simple customer service skills. I would return to this hotel only if I did not intend to avail myself of the spa services. May 27, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Classic Hotel The hotel is beautiful walking into the grand foyer is an amazing experience. We stayed at the St. Francis for a total of 5 days. The staff and service people were attentive and very polite. Our room was in the landmark part of the hotel - as the name would say it's the older part of the hotel. The room was neat and clean. The beds were comfortable and the was plenty of walking around space in the room. The only negatives I could say would be the amount of noise that penetrates from not only the street but we could hear conversations in other room like they were standing in our room. The bathroom was a challenge - of course it was retrofitted into the space so you "get" why it's so tight but you couldn't stand in front of the sink because of the wall behind it was so close and the shower was a true water closet - very little room to maneuver. Overall I would absolutely recommend it. I might ask for an inner room or one in the new building on my next visit. July 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Front Desk Jenna at the front desk was able to upgrade us (SPG Preferred) to one of the older rooms which was terrific. I'll be asking for it again. Only thing wrong was that the bathroom window wouldn't shut completely but since the weather was perfect that was not a problem. I didn't opt for the $14.95/day internet but feel you should offer it on a complimentary basis. Also, the blackout curtains on the windows were the best ever. My wife wants to buy a Heavenly Mattress!!! Thanks June 30, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Lovely but EXPENSIVE Location was central and ideal. As an SPG member, paying for wifi ($20 a NIGHT!) seems unreasonable and like extortion. Add in the $60 + a night for parking and I'm reconsidering my commitment to Westin. July 20, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Very Good Hotel Overall the hotel was very good. I was happy with the room, staff, food, spa and location. I would stay here again and recommend it to others. My only negative about the hotle is that there was no free wi-fi. I was under the impression that as an SPG member there would be no charge for internet services at these properties. July 15, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Happiness and Quiet Room We often stay at the Westin St. Francis when in SF. We checked in very early which was very nice of the hotel as my partner was coming from red eye flight-I came a day later--The room on 4th floor of the old building on the corner of the square was hard in many respects. The noise level all day till 10 pm was difficult-the city allows bands on the street and other noise makes it hard to be in the room at times--early morning trucks and man singing at 8 am was not appreciated-- the hotel nicely moved us to the 10th floor and away from the noise on the market square- the chair in old room and configuration was hard to step over to ones bed on the right side-bath tub older and small- new room(1035) has nicer/bigger bath tub but the toilet was difficult in space to sit down on use-the room seemed smaller but the noise was not heard from again-we like the old building but recommend staying on their higher floors.The service was good-people nice and the room was clean which was important--the carpets need updating in the old building throughout- guess the charm of old is nice--we also like the pillows and the sheets--clean and comfortable. Happy to have quiet in the end and good night sleep during our stay- love the location. July 23, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Comfortable and Well Located My daughter and I stayed at the hotel when we participated in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. The hotel staff was very accommodating whe we requested a slightly late check out after our 39 mile walk. The hotel is on Union Square and we found it to be within walking distance of everything we wanted to do! I definitely recommend it! July 14, 2014

Rated 5 out of 5 by Modern Amenities and Old School Charm My stay was short, but extrememly pleasant. My room was in the newly refurbished tower, so I can't speak to the other rooms. But, I had a wonderful 180 degree view of the City and the Bay. The room was large and comfortable with all the necessary amentities, yet still didn't lose the charm of being in the heart of Union Square. July 14, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by below excpectations We stayed at the hotel for my wife’s birthday. The hotel was really nice but unfortunately the service was below expectations. Housekeeping woke us up early in the morning when they opened the door to clean the room, they left as soon as the realize that we are in there. After we came back from breakfast we found that they got in the room ,took our food out of the fridge and didn’t clean the room. After check out we had to wait for 55 minutes to get the car, I assume when you pay $51 for parking at least you will find enough staff ,and not have to stress out when you have a flight to catch December 20, 2011

Rated 4 out of 5 by Lovely but... We love the St. Francis, especially at the holidays. Everything is so festive and it's so convenient for shopping, dining, ice skating, cable car riding, etc. The only issue we had was that I booked a tower room with two double beds for my husband and me and our two teen girls. Beds were WAY TOO SMALL to sleep two people. That and the city sirens wailing most of Friday night kept us from getting any real sleep. Never saw an option for queen beds when I booked, but I'll be sure I never make that mistake again. Overall, a great evening. Highly recommend the package that includes parking ($50 night) and free WIFI ($15/night). If you're not eating in the hotel, try Kuketos down the street. Delicious! December 24, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Stay in the newer part of the Hotel I have stayed at the Westin St Francis a few times, this was the only stay that I was disappointed. It was the first time I stayed in the older part of the hotel. It looked like no one has stayed in this particular room in a while. There was an empty water bottle on the floor. When I told my experience at check out, he said, yes because it was the old part of the hotel. I didn’t think that was a good excuse, all your rooms should be at top quality, this is not what I expected for a Westin Hotel. June 21, 2014

Rated 3 out of 5 by hotel has a good location stayed at this hotel many times. Finally had enough. The hotel LACKS having the "Westin Signature" bed. They provide the absolute worst pillows of any hotel I"ve stayed at. Would avoid staying here again due to the bed and pillows. Also, my 4 am wake call never came. Almost missed my flight. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for a reason! The hotel is a landmark for a reason and is in the best area to stay in San Fran. It is right in the heart of the best shopping, tons of restaurants and an overall fun vibe and bustle to it. It's centrally located so any part of the city is within a 15-minute cab ride. Our room was spacious, clean, contemporary and warm. I can only say good things about the hotel! I felt like I made the right choice for my hotel in SF this month and would stay here again when I return! June 26, 2014
