Rated 1 out of 5 by AWFUL Valet Parking My experience at the Westin on Mischigan avenue was ruined by my valet parking experience. The staff was completely disrespectful, and kept me waiting almost one hour to park my car. The hotel is nice, and the servic e at the desk was exceptional, but it was ruined before i even got there by the valet. May 28, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Price Quotes Deceptive We were told that our stay would be $129 per night. Now I can understand the extra $20 in taxes per night but NO ONE told us it would cost $60 per night to park there. So our $129 a night ended up being over $200 a night and we were NOT happy about it. Truth in price quotes would have been appreciated. February 17, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by I was disappointed We have been coming to the Westin Michigan Ave for 5 years now to celebrate my mother's birthday. This year she was 84, quite an accomplishment. This year we were all dissappointed in our rooms and the hotel in general. It badly needs a facelift and some life breathed in to it. October 28, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Thanks for the help I had mistakenly made my reservation at another Westin in Chicago and did not realize it until I arrived at the hotel to check in. The woman that was checking me in quickly called the other hotel and transferred my reservation with no issues or additional charges. Actually recieved a better rate! February 7, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Rooms We were in a "traditional" room and found its layout, closet size and furniture facilities to be lacking. We do not believe that we received appropriate value for our rate and should not have to pay a premium to get a "descent" room.. Your standard room ought be to at a higher quality and size. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Staff From the wonderfully friendly welcome of Yvonne at check-in to checkout (including the waiter staff at the Grill) the staff were especially friendly and helpful during my stay. This was even before being identified as a Starwood Member ...upon identification as an SPG member it got even better. February 4, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Well cared for My stay was fantastic! From the very beginning of being greeted on the sidewalk by the doorman to incredibly courteous staff to having the doorman help me flag down the shuttle van driver and helping me with my suitcase. It was a terrific experience. Amazing food, hospitality and accomodations. January 28, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Poor service We had a roll away bed ordered for our daughter. We did not have it set up as we checked in. We were told it would be delivered in fifteen minutes. Then delivered at 7 We attended the wedding reception told it would be delivered at 11 finally delivered at 2:30 am. Totally unacceptable. September 2, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by vacation We love staying at this hotel! January 20, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by An underwhelming Westin Friendly staff but facilities are below average. I was upgraded to a deluxe king room with an extremely noisy ventilation system. An evening beer is $20 delivered. $9+$5 delivery +24% gratuity. As an SPG Platinum member and recent Westin guest I wouldn't return unless I had to. September 30, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Visit with granddaughters My friend and I decided to take our granddaughters to Chicago to visit and have lunch at the American Girl Place. Your hotel was recommended as having an American Girl Package. C.N.- Business Travel Sales Manager, helped me make this a dream come true for the girls, the grandmothers, and even the dolls. C.N. not only coordinated the package for us, but also recommended different things to do. We couldn't have asked for a nicer and more cooperative contact at the hotel. The girls loved their American Girls doll beds, the ice cream sundaes, the discount coupons for meals, and the American Girl in-room movie. My friend and I were very happy with the way the entire staff worked to make the girls' experience the trip of a lifetime, from the concierge who made sure the doll beds were in our room on time, to the lady at room service who made a beautiful tray for the girls' ice cream sundaes. We highly recommend this package for any family visits to Chicago which include visiting the American Girl Place. October 3, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Hotel restaurant personnel Quality restaurant staff in the morning for breakfast. Our server was very courteous and personable. The following morning he greeted us by name and brought us coffee immediately upon seating us. Even remembered we took cream in our coffee. Always smiling and checking on our needs. September 2, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great location This hotel is the perfect location if you are a tourist in Chicago. We ate at four excellent restaurants within one block of the hotel. There are tons more within walking distance as well as shopping galore. The staff was helpful and efficient. You can't go wrong here. October 15, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Very Worn Down While this hotel is in a great location and has lots of charm, the room are in serious need of an update. Fraying carpet, exposed electrical wires in the wall (not safe for kids!), mis-matched furniture etc... I am not picky but this is one of the weakest Westin's in the lot. September 20, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Conference with Daughter Exceptional Service, Close to everything. Beds were very comfortable; just like home. Cons: The nozzle to turn on the shower was broken off completely, we had to use a washcloth to grip the end of a screw and pull it out to get the shower on. The water pressure wasn't very strong. Rated 5 out of 5 by Everything you'd expect, and more The usual great experience when staying at a Westin. Along with some fantastic customer service - I needed a spoon, didn't want to walk down Michigan ave at 10pm and with a quick call one was at my door 10 minutes later. Great location, on the main strip, but slightly tucked away. June 3, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great location and excellent staff Stay here mostly for the location as it is the best. I stayed for business and there are so many great restaurants, shopping and attractions all within walking distance. THe hotel is in need of a renovation, especially the hallways but overall the value is great for the location. February 25, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Westin MI Ave is average Needs a bit of an update. Also i made phone call using a toll free number (858) and the Westin charge $160 for greater than 15 minutes. Did not appreciate the repsonse of the manager who was unwilling to reduce this excessive fee. I will not be staying at this Westin again. August 21, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Stay in Chicago The Westin on Michigan Avenue 909, is the only hotel I stay at when visiting Chicago. It is a friendly, clean and accomodating hotel. I have never had a bad experience as of yet. Anytime someone asks me about staying in Chicago, I would only recommend The Westin on Michigan Ave. October 8, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Staff Service From check-in to housekeeping, the staff at the Westin N. Mchigan in Chicago were courteous and helpful throughout our week stay. My special thanks to the housekeeping staff who were very respectful and flexible of us sleeping in our getting a late start on our day. September 22, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by This Hotel has great staff and comfortable beds. When in Chicago for business or pleasure, The Westin, Michigan Ave. is always my hotel of choice. The beds are very comfortable and the staff is always wonderful. The location can't be beat; walking distance to so many wonderful shops, restaurants and beautiful Lake Michigan. May 29, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Rude Staff Members When I book The Westin North Michigan Ave in Chicago, I thought I was going to experience the high quality of Starwood hotels again. This was not the case. Some of the staff members were rude and did not offer to help solve my request (although it was a very tiny request and I could live without it) but the way it was dealt was very disappointing. Shortly after checking in and going up to my hotel room on a Friday night, I called "Service Express" on the phone to ask for some cotton or cloth slippers. After a long wait for someone to actually pick up my call, I was told that they were out of slippers. Okay, that's fine, I understand. I then asked if I could get slippers the next day and was assured that "Yes, we will get slippers tomorrow". Score. I'm not sure if my standards for The Westin are too high but I honestly thought the lady who answered my call would make a note and ask housekeeping to drop them off the next day when the room was being cleaned. So I left the hotel the next day in the morning and came back after our room had been cleaned. Still no signs of slippers. Later on, on my way out, I stopped by the front desk to ask someone in person hoping they will let me know if I can get slippers or not. The man at the front desk said "No problem! We'll send them right up to your room!". He was enthusiastic and sounded like he knew what he was saying. But no, when I came back that night, still NO SLIPPERS. I called Service Express again and AGAIN after a long wait (seriously, are they understaffed at Service Express?), the woman told me flatly, "No miss we're out of slippers". When I told her what I was told the day before, she said "well they got it wrong, we don't get deliveries on Saturday". Seriously? After one other SErvice express operator AND one front desk staff, NOW they tell me that? Slippers are not some vital object that I need to survive but the hotel staff should know their policies and routines better so they do not misinform their guests and give them false hope. Also on the other hand, I found hair on my pillow case before I even touched the bed and also on the wall of the shower... The concierge staff was also rude when I asked them what was the best way from the hotel to O'hare when it was snowing outside. Overall, I would definitely not recommend this Westin hotel. It is definitely subpar. February 18, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Perfect location This hotel had the perfect location! The staff was super friendly and knowledgable. The only thing I didn't like about my stay is that the hotel wasn't as nice as other Westins I've stayed at. It was nice, but it wasn't any thing special. It will be out of date in 1 year. Rated 4 out of 5 by nice hotel, pleasant service Comfortable, clean room with nice amenities, esp. nice shower and good bed. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Only significant complaint: in this day and age, wifi access really ought to be included in the room price - not an extra $13/day. November 3, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by This is a good location... Overall, the hotel was fine but it needs a makeover. I am a gold but did not get upgraded - which was fine. The room we had was a good size but the bathroom was so very small. There was one sink and it was too small and low to the ground. The toilet was way too old! May 28, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Pretty dissappointing We stay at Westin's for a reason - they are usually very clean and the rooms are nice & up-to-date. We were pretty dissappointed in the Westin Chicago - it could really use a room renovation. The location & staff are great, but the building itself needs improvement. June 26, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best in Chicago! I stay here once a month...because it is the best hotel in chicago...and almost anywhere! Location, staff, facilities...home away form home! Alonzo, Tommy and Keith at the door, Pat and Jose valets, Kristin and Nurpur in guest services-best anywhere! October 7, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Rooms are extremely relaxing Our room was great for relaxing with clean, comfortable beds; a beautiful bathroom and great TV. An on-site pool and free continental breakfast would have made our stay perfect. The only food we had on site was breakfast via room service - delicious but expensive. July 3, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Bad customer service Hotel is in a nice location but overall customer service is terrible. No one was in the front to greet or help me with my luggage. The same when I departed...had to take care of everything myself including open the door while the staff just stood there and looked. May 8, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Clean and overall comfortable Location of hotel is very short walk to Cheesecake Factory and American Girl Cafe. Consieure service was excellent. The room was clean though quite warm; even when the outside temp hovered near 10 degrees. Restaurant on site had very good food though a bit pricey. January 23, 2013
